Sooo Thirsty, Frequent Urination, Celiac Related?

I am 7 weeks pregnant, and went gluten free a little over a month ago due to positive celiac blood panel (Couldn't do the endoscopy due to pregnancy). I have been a little more "regular" but so far no other changes. However, the last two weeks (every day seems worse) I have been so ridiculously thirsty and urinating as soon as I drink something. I'll drink a glass of water then have to use the restroom about 10 min later, it's like my body isn't retaining ANY of it. I have also lost 6 lbs. I am worried the baby isn't getting any nutrients, I will be calling my GI tomorrow but anyone have this happen or know what could be going on?

Pregnant And Eating Gluten

I am either gluten intolerant or have Celiac's. basically the doctor could not give me a definitive answer. regardless, gluten makes me lethargic at times...that being said I am almost 5 months pregnant and have found myself eating gluten a lot more than I normally would. I feel that it isnt effecting me as it did before...so stupidly, I grab gluten stuff when I am out and about.
I am now terrified that my baby is going to have birth defects. I think I was under the impression that the placenta would protect him/her, but now am worried that I am not absorbing all the prenatal vitamins since I am eating gluten. I am freaking out and could really use a non-judgmental response. I have two other children who are healthy and thriving so I am just confused too. Thanks very much.

Weight Gain

I am 6 months pregnant and I have only gained 10 lbs and although I am a skinny, short person I feel like I'm not gain enough weight during my pregnancy. I have been gluten-free for 3 years. When I discovered I had celiacs I had already lost about 15 lbs due to gluten, although I feel 100% better on the gluten-free diet I never gained much weight back. Now I am pregnant and I worry I am not gaining enough. I try to eat multiple times a day and I eat peanut butter and ice cream alot. Does anyone else have a problem gaining weight on the g-free diet? Or does anyone have suggestions of what to eat to pack on some pounds?

New To Celiac, Now Pregnant. Overwhelmed!

As some of you may know, I found out that I had celiac disease about a month ago. I had a positive tTg test which was followed by a positive celiac panel (I don't know the specific test names). Funny thing is I had a upper endoscopy scheduled for last friday, I had to cancel last min due to scheduling conflicts. This stressed me out because I wanted to start the gluten free diet but the Dr wanted a formal diagnosis. I rescheduled for this coming friday, but found out yesterday that I was pregnant. I also just found out a few months ago that I have antiphospholipid antibody syndrome. Now I am panicking because I will now be switching to a gluten free diet and dealing with the first months of pregnancy at the same time. I also have a almost 3 year old and almost 1 year old son. I feel overwhelmed and scared. I guess I am just looking for anyone who has been through this!

Going To Start Trying Soon!

Hi Everyone. I'm so happy I found this forum!

I'm 27 and have been married to my husband for 8 months (we've been together for 5 years though). I was diagnosed with Celiac 4 months after our wedding (in September). I'm so happy I finally discovered why I was withering away and always in the bathroom... but I'm definitely still recovering. I stopped taking birth control back in July and finally got my period in September (first 'real' one since going off birth control, and exactly two weeks after going gluten free). My husband and I really want to start trying in the next few months to have a baby, but I'm still terrified that I'm not completely healed. My OBGYN said everything looks good with my reproductive organs, but I want to make sure my vitamin levels and antibody levels are in check. I'm seeing my primary doctor next week (although he specializes in GI he knows little about celiac unfortunately). I think I've been getting CC'ed a lot lately so I'm a little discouraged about that. I actually just read in a previous forum the prenatal vitamins I've been taking (Rainbow Light Prenatal One) contain trace amounts of gluten, although labeled 'gluten-free'! Maybe that's why I've still been getting sick? Crazy. Anyways, I just wanted to reach out and see if anyone had any tips to prepare my body for a (potential) pregnancy. Vitamins you recommend? Best foods to eat? Tips for fertility? I'm open to anything!

Prego

So I've been prego before, only for a few weeks. This time I'm a month in.
But...I took one of my L-glutamine pills to help heal my intestines and had a bad reaction. I had avoided taking them for a few days but tried one today
and this is what happened:

hot/cold flashes
nausea
dizziness
sweats
fainted
migraine
freezing cold hand (blue/white)

SO...conclusion, when it says "Consult a doctor if pregnant.." I'M GOING TO DO IT!
Sometimes (shakes head) I just slap myself.

I will be getting a doctor soon.

High Fsh And Celiac Disease? My Story.

I'm sorry if this post is disorganized/confusing at all. I have a LOT of questions.

Hi there, I'm Julie. 30 years old, from NY. TTC for about a year...I will give you a briefing of my situation - or you can skip ahead if not interested -

I have been searching for a larger reason behind my infertility caused by "high fsh" and after seeing several specialists, having unsuccessful IUIs, etc...nobody can give me a reason. They say my eggs are just bad, and suggested that I might have premature ovarian failure. I've had about 15 FSH tests over the last year, and most turned out normal - under 10. Two tests came back spiked which lead to the diagnosis. The first was 15, and the second was 28. My fertility doc told me I have a 2% chance of conceiving with my own eggs, and that I should look for a donor, and not waste my time on IVF.

I saw a rheumatologist because I had antibodies present in my blood tests - and he said all of his tests came up negative, and I am not symptomatic of any autoimmune diseases, and that was that. SO----I ended up going to a holistic doctor and acupuncturist. She ran food allergy tests on me which returned results stating that I have gluten intolerance. I later called my rheumatologist to ask if they ever tested my blood for a gluten allergy, they said no.

I have a few question - but they all stem from this. WHY, if celiac disease is the cause of many unexplained infertility cases, did my supposed almighty fertility doctor not think to test me for this?

When I first had concerns about my health, I had presumed that I had a thyroid condition. I was actually crossing my fingers and praying that a thyroid problem was my issue. That way I could fix that issue, and be on my way to getting pregnant. Unfortunately, those tests came back normal. The symptoms are somewhat similar to those of celiac disease. How could my doctor have missed this??

Is there a link between celiac disease and high FSH? I'm searching high and low for a reason that I cannot have children. I can't give up just yet.

I have been avoiding gluten products for about 3 weeks, and have a test for celiac disease next week. Will the test results still be solid even though I've been avoiding gluten?

Anybody in a similar situation? I could really use some support.

thanks so much. Again, I'm sorry for any confusion. But if you have any questions regarding what I said, I'm an open book.

New Here- Pregnancy Caused Celiac?

Hi!

I'm Michelle and I'm currently 30 weeks pregnant. I've been battling sour stomach burps and diahrrea since Dec 16. Previously I've been diagnosed with mild lactose intolerance and suspected IBS. I called today to find out the results of a stool sample test and I don't have a parasite or bacterial infection. The nurse mentioned testing me for celiac's.

So my question is can pregnancy bring on this kind of constant symptoms I'm experiencing? This baby has been craving carbs so I have been eating tons of bread and pasta.

Possible Celiac And Probable Pregnancy

For about a year now i have had stomach problems, sore, bloating, swelling feeling, burping, nauseous, cramping, diarrhea, loss of appitite which lead me to believe i had Celiac. i really seemed to notice the symptoms after drinking beer and eating pastas, breads etc. i had a blood test for Celiac but it came back negitive. i am due to have a colonoscopy in a few weeks but believe i am pregnant after a year of trying to concieve (which i'm extrememly excited about). i'm a little worried about getting that done as i don't want anything to go wrong or to hurt the baby. i have been eating gluten as my doctor wanted it to be in my system and for my symptoms to be worse so that it would show up on the colonoscope. now that i could be pregnant i'm thinking i want to cut out glueten completely! any advise would be appreciated!

i'm also sceduled to get an endoscope at the same time as my colonoscopy.

Questions - Celiac and Pregnancy

im eighteen years old and got married two months ago. i just took an at home pregnancy test. i got diagnosed with celiac disease in the fifth grade and did the diet for about a year and a half. i started cheating every once and a while and eventually went completely off. after a few weeeks of being married i ended up in the emergency room with a herniated disc they gave me a pregnancy test by blood and it was positive, but after testing it again it came out negative three times. i had a really irregular period after that and i think i miscarried and now a month later i am pregnant again. a couple weeks ago i started going back on a gluten free diet again so we could try to get pregnant and what do you know positve pregnancy tests. i am really stressed out thinking i might lose my baby, and was wondering if anyone has had any positive pregnancy outcomes after just barely going on the gluten free diet.

Finally!

I'm so excited to share with you all that my husband and I are finally pregnant! I give all credit (well, most, we did do a *few* things to contribute lol) to kicking the gluten out of my life. My husband and I decided back in May (before we got married in June) for me to discontinue my Depo, knowing that it could take a while to get out of my system and that we were on a somewhat more limited time frame than most couples are (I'm 35 and he's 40.). I had my annual in August and my obgyn was concerned about me not having started having periods after the three months off the Depo. She wanted to give me a shot immediately to trigger periods (not ovulation, just periods), but I wasn't yet ready to go that direction. In mid-Sept, I went gluten free right after my colonoscopy/EGD (which was done incorrectly so I still have no 'official' diagnosis, but I feel completely confident in saying that I have Celiac w/ DH). By mid-Oct my period started. My obgyn suggested I get an OPK just to see whether or not I was ovulating, telling me not to worry too much about it as I probably would not ovulate for a few months (at least), but that this would be good information to know. Well, low and behold, I was ovulating from the get-go. That first one was a miss, but I ovulated for the second time right after Thanksgiving. Thinking it was probably still a few days to early, but just feeling a very strong urge to do so, I did a home test yesterday afternoon. Again, I was thinking that it was too early and that since I was not using my first morning urine, I would likely get a negative even if I were, in fact, preggo. Immagine my surprise when I got not only a positive, but a VERY STRONG positive! I had to do a double take and then check the thing to make sure that I was reading it correctly! Words cannot even begin to describe how thrilled we are, though it still seems a bit surreal to me right now.

Irregular Period On Gluten-Free Diet

Hi! I am 20 years old and was diagnosed with celiac 3 months ago and have been eating gluten free ever since. Before I started eating gluten-free my periods have always been fairly regular, I did go for a few months when I was 18 without getting it at all. But I had been regular for about a year leading up to my diagnosis. Since I started eating gluten-free my periods have been very strange. I would get cramps and bloating around the time I was due to get it, but then I would be a week or so late. I am not on birth control or any other medication.
I am assuming this is just due to my hormones being screwed up from such a drastic change in my diet, but any insight would be greatly appreciated : )

How Much Vitamin D And Folic Acid During Pregnancy?

Hello,

I live in Canada. My family doctor told me to take 2 x 5 mg of folic acid and 1000 IU vitamin D per day. This is in addition to a multivitamin her colleague prescribed previously that contains 1 mg of folic acid and 400 IU vitamin D. Apart from that, I get those vitamins daily from soy drink, kefir etc., where they are added, not to mention their natural sources. When I asked the doctor about my actual blood levels for folic acid she said they didn't test it because they never do. So this is all just as a precaution.
To be honest, I feel a little bit overdosed!
As I take it, folic acid is important especially for the first couple of weeks, but she gave it to me at week 8 and wants me to take that huge amount during the whole pregnancy. Does anyone know the reason for that?

In general, I'm wondering how much vitamin D and folic acid doctors recommended/prescribed to other celiacs in Canada and the US?

Thank you!!!

Ready To Start Trying - Books On Celiac/pregnancy To Recommend?

Hi there,

I was diagnosed with Celiac disease nearly five years ago and since have been on a g-free diet. I'm not as strict with things as some people - still eat out, cook things with gluten for parties/husband in our kitchen, etc., but generally I've been on a gluten-free diet since diagnosis. My husband and I are starting to think about having children and I'm aware that I need to be extra careful pre-, during and post-pregnancy to ensure my baby gets all the nutrients he/she needs. I also recently had a full physical with my doctor in which he ran tests to check levels of iron in my blood, etc. (pre-diagnosis I was anemic and my iron is now perfect!)

Anyway, I'd love any suggestions of books/reading materials (similar to regular pregnancy books like "What to Expect...") that specifically talk about pregnancy and Celiac disease/gluten. Are there any out there?

Thanks for your help!
