Hubby Causes Insomnia? Suggestions?

Okay, I had started developing aches and pains and insomnia. Don't ask which came first, because I don't know...

Well, hubby travels frequently (but was home for December)....and left for a week long trip Monday.

Every day I have felt better. I have slept longer and deeper each day. I feel like a new person.

We both snore, but his snoring wakes me up, and evidently it bothers me even when I "sleep".

So, I bought some Breathe Right strips for him, and ear plugs for me. He's going to be just thrilled but I can't think of anything else...a friend suggested a mouth piece (works for her hubs -she has sleep issues when he snores).

Lack of sleep is contributing to so many aches, swelling in my hands, mental function and my daily functioning. I can't do it...

Any other suggestions?

Please Help Chronic Severe Insomnia

I understand why Michael Jackson wanted to be put to sleep. I have been to numerous doctors and natural health specialists and I haven't gotten any relief. I can't sleep. Can't eat. I've lost 20 to 30 pounds over the last six months. This has been going on since the fall of '09, but has gotten progressively worse since April '11. I'm at the end of my rope. I keep thinking that the insomnia is a symptom of something else, but I don't have a clue what that could be. There is autoimmune disease in my family. One sister and mother are celiac, another sister has a thyroid condition called hashimoto's disease (sp). Dad died of a brain tumor. I've tried trazodone, Ativan, bioidentical hormones. My hair falls out in bunches. I've got no energy. I'm a massage therapist, but I don't have the strength to work. I feel like a prisoner. My celiac sister says she's gotten help for several hard-to-diagnose conditions from this site. Please, does anyone have any ideas? This started with peri-menopause. Other than this, my life is great. No other stresses or psychological problems. Thank you in advance for any ideas.

Can't Buy A Good Night's Sleep

I'm so tired, most nights I'm awake by 3:30 and either can't go back to sleep or stumble into and out of sleep for the next hour or so till I'm so frustrated I just get up. For about the last 6 months I'm waking up almost everyday with a headache and my the bones in my legs feel like I've slept on concrete all night I'm exhausted when I go to bed but almost dread it knowing how I'm going to feel when I wake up. In my attempt to find any form of quality sleep I've replaced my pillows, bought a thick memory foam mattress pad, tried all the good sleep hygiene recommendations I could find, including blackout curtains, and repainting my room "earthy, neutral tones" I've been gluten-free for 2 years and looked for cc but haven't found any. Throughout my life I've never felt fully rested when I woke up, but this is different, mainly from the pain and total mentally exhaustion. I have thought about trying some form of elimination diet but quiet honestly I'm too brain dead at this point to research. Does anyone have any straight forward suggestions I could try? I take multiple vitamins, fish oil, baby aspirin, and a low dose levothyroxin daily. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Otc Sleep Aid

I'm looking for a gluten-free OTC sleep aid...besides melatonin, since I'm taking 9mg and still lie awake for hours. I used to love Nytol, but they say that although no gluten is added, it's not certified gluten-free. I was actually on oxyzepam to help me sleep, but it no longer works.
A bit of history....prediagnosis I slept fine, the first couple of months gluten-free I slept fine, and now suddenly it's an issue. I've had other phases in the past, but I don't believe it's related to gluten....I know it will pass, but meanwhile I need some sleep....well, more than I've been getting!

Ok its about Day 4 into going gluten free and I noticed that I had a hard time sleeping since Day 2. I would go to bed at 9pm or 10pm and I'd still be squirming around at 1 or 2am in the morning. I really don't hit my sleeping period until 8am then wake up at 10am. So I've only been getting 2 hours of sleep since Day 2. Is this normal for gluten free dieting? I'm fine with everything else... I feel much better and active compared to when I was eating wheat all the time.

Hi! Not sure if this is the best forum for posting this question, but here goes...

I'm normally a VERY sound sleeper and can sleep through ANYTHING. Ever since I went gluten free, I've been not sleeping well, very light, waking up often, and just having a difficult time getting to sleep. Would benedryl be safe to take to kind of help me over the hump to sleeping again? Or do you have any other suggestions that might help me?

Melatonin Rules For Sleep Issues

I was having a hard time sleeping. Probably anxiety and who knows what else. I looked online at this stuff your body makes called melatonin which is actually a hormone your body creates when it's pitch dark during your sleep. It actually turns on all the other hormones in your body that fight diseases and cancers. It works by turning on your biological sleep clock. Your body creates melatonin during REM sleep which happens under complete darkness sleeping which is why people who work nights are more prone to cancers, because their body doesn't create melatonin under lighted sleep to fight the cancers. This is true for people who stay up till 4-5 in the morning. After a month I was sold. It's not habit forming and has very few if any negative side effects. And its really cheap. You can get it at and drug store for under 10 bucks. Go look it up, it's amazing stuff. Reports show it actually stops, prevents tumor growth and even retracts some forms of cancer. I believe this stuff is one of the worlds hidden secrets on cancer prevention and treatment. Do your own investigation.

Frustrated :(

Hello everyone! I'm so glad I found this site. Hopefully you guys can help me feel better. I haven't "officially" been diagnosed yet. My blood work is supposed to come in next week. Before all of this I wouldn't just sleep I would hibernate. 10-12 hours of sleep was my 7-9 hours for other people. On days were I didn't have to do anything I would just sleep until I woke up and would end up with a sleep hangover. Total brain fog just feeling like crap. After a while it started getting to where I would have sleep hangovers and a migraine to top it off. Pain over my right eye that would last forever. After I started the gluten free diet 2 weeks ago it actually got better. I work nights so a lot of times I would go to bed between 4-6 am. I was actually going to bed around 2 2:30. Yay! And waking up around 11 or 12 which is early for me. And for the longest time I wouldn't have dreams. Now I'm actually dreaming! But yesterday and today I'm sleeping a lot again. No real sleep hangover feeling. I'm just so worried this might just be normal for me and I can't stand it. On my days off I sleep through half of them. I'm still new to all of this but I don't think I glutened myself. This is all so frustrating. I feel like I'm trying hard to get this right. You read the ingredients and get something. Then you go home eat some then go online and double check just to find out there's a "chance" there could be gluten in what you just ate. You never know if you are feeling a certain way because you ate gluten or maybe it's just a normal thing that happens to anyone eating that particular thing. I'm just so confused I just want to feel normal. I was actually feeling the brain fog going away and I'm afraid that's going to come back too. I'm sorry this is so long. I hope some of you can help

Heat Wave Is Wearing Me Out

I have noticed that since this heat wave started (I live in Central Illinois), that I have been feeling more tired, sluggish and general worn-out feeling. I also have been getting headaches and sinus aches. I'm taking all the necessary precautions (I stay indoors in an air conditioned environment, drink lots of fluids-but perhaps not enough, taking it easy and not overexerting myself, etc).
Is this heat wave making anyone else feel lousy, too? I sometimes wonder if I'm really sensitive to barometric pressure, too.

Can't... Stop... Sleeping...

I posted this a little while back... (in a different thread, got no reply). well, now I'm in the same boat again.

Quote

"Today I basically slept all day. I went to bed at eleven last night, slept ten hours, got up for breakfast, slept for an hour or so, watched some TV, ate a tiny lunch, slept a few more hours, and then ended up sleeping from one pm to six pm (which is now). I'm tired enough to go back to sleep right now prolly, but I'm going to eat something first at least, and feed the poor dog.

Basically since I got up this morning I've been asleep more than I've been awake. My head feels funny. I don't have a fever or anything like that. Is this from gluten? I'm a pretty lazy person but not this freakin' lazy."

This time I slept nine hours last night, got up to eat brunch and watch TV, then slept about 2+ hours. My head feels funny and I could totally fall asleep again. My body is screaming at me to but I'm going to wait as long as I can and try to sleep at night instead.

I've been really careful about CC and food etc... not too much processed food, just bread from a local totally gluten-free bakery for PBJ sandwiches, or maybe rice chex for breakfast. I've tried to get better about washing my hands before meals. Maybe now I need to clean the crumb-filled kitchen from top to bottom? Idk.

How do you handle sleep episodes like this where you feel headachy and sick and can't get anything worthwhile done? luckily I'm not employed atm, but I mean to be soon.

I've dealt with extreme sleepiness before but that was when I was actually out and about doing things, not just sitting around eating and watching TV and then sleeping. I can't handle this; I want it to stop TT_TT I feel like a failure at life

there was a time when I first moved here that I fell asleep then woke up naturally 8/9 hours later and had energy all day. what happened to that...?

for supplements I take (ALL gluten-free) a multi with iron, D3 every day (my levels were borderline low), B12 once a week or so (used to every day till levels got super high), iron every few days (levels borderline low again), folic acid, and a calcium/magnesium/zinc tablet. I've been gluten free what, 3 months (it's in my sig i guess)? my antibodies, last time they were checked, were 157 or smth like that.

It used to happen fairly frequently before I went gluten-free but honestly I can't remember it happening since the 1st few weeks gluten-free.
