Roti Restaurant In The Dc And Chicago Areas

I went to the Roti on 1st St in DC last week. Roti has a very, very good gluten-free pita. As usual, you can taste a little bit of corn flour, but they've got the texture and general taste down to a tee. I bought it frozen and toasted it at home, a measure I took to avoid having them toast it on the same rack as the regular pita. I also asked the employee whether the company was trying to institute overall gluten free practices for select products. He said yes and explained a bit more. It seemed like I'd have a good day.

I admit that I was so happy to taste something remotely close to regular pita bread that I gobbled down 2 slices far too quickly. (Each pita is maybe 8in in diameter.) Within 10-15 min I had that old friend nausea step in. Mild, but obvious and some mild bowel symptoms later.

I am not sure if I just ate too fast or if it was not truly gluten free. I have written to the company to hear their procedure for making it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they swore purity for gluten free. I also had humous and vegetables. The humous ingredients are written on the label, all seemed well.

So this is just a warning if you decide to list this restaurant on your list of gluten-free friendly restaurants for your support group: do some homework first.

I am 23 years old and was diagnosed with Celiacs disease a little over a month ago. I was feeling so awful before I was on it and now I am feeling better. I am having trouble with finding snacks and little things I can eat throughout that day. I am finding the whole thing kinda difficult and could use any advice anyone has to offer.

Looking For A Support Group

Hello,
I have not been officially diagnosed with Celiac. However, my blood tests always come back not statistically significant. In addition, I have a family member who has been diagnosed. I have two family friends who are nurses and I have about 90 percent of the symtoms. I have decided to be proactive and give the gluten free diet a try. I am lost as where to start. If anyone has any ideas of what for me to look for in purchasing food or where to go I would be happy for the suggestions. Thanks so much for your help.

Online Support Group for Catholics

Are you a member of the Christian Church, or an eccesial body? Most ecclesial bodies let their members take Communion as a rice cracker or other gluten-free grain product. However, the Catholic Church requires that the Host be under the form of unleavened wheat bread.

That requirement creates certain challenges to Catholics who have celiac disease or gluten intolerance. To address these challenges, and to provide moral support and advice, "Catholic Celiacs" has now been created as a social group on www.catholic.com . All Catholics who have either or both of these conditions are welcome to join! ( http://forums.catholic.com/group.php?groupid=1179 )

(The discussion group is not formally affiliated with the Catholic Celiac Society, but is generally supportive of its threefold mission.)
