What Is A Safe Pain Reliever?

I struggle with migraine headaches and try to manage them with advil, ice and rest. I also use tylenol for minor headaches. I have been noticing that I have more stomach issues when I use these meds so I called tylenol and while they told me that most of their products are gluten free, the list of ingredients they had and the list I had on my box were different. They did not have pregelatinized starch on their ingredient list and could not tell me if it came from a wheat source. They said they would call me back and I have not heard from them as of today. Then, the owner of a gluten free market in our city told me that she was notified that Advil was no longer gluten-free, though their website still says it is. I am continuing to look into this but meanwhile, any suggestions of gluten-free pain meds? Should I look into compounding ibuprofen? I think that Alleve is ok...but I am nervous.

Thanks!

List Of Celiac Friendly Colleges

Does anyone here (or is a parent of a student) attend or is planning to attend a college in the US that accommodates the gluten-free lifestyle? I think it would be great if we all list that college here for future students to consider as part of the college search. A list like this will serve our community for years to come. And as more colleges get with the program, it can be added to the list at any time.

I am just beginning the college search so I can only start with one.

Taking Accutane With Existing Coeliac?

Hi everyone

My teenage son who was diagnosed with Coeliac around 3-4 years ago, is now suffering acne and we are seeing a dermatologist next month to discuss Accutane, as he has tried other antiobiotics etc and they don't work. I know there are links to Accutane triggering Coeliac, but I am wondering if anyone has completed Accutane who has been previously diagnosed with Coeliac and already on a gluten free diet? My other teenager also has acne and is not Coeliac.

Thanks!

5 Weeks At A Residential School This Summer

DD (16 years old) will be at a residential school for 5 weeks this summer for an intensive dance program. I've done a little research about the dinning hall and have found that a food service company provides the food service. It's a family based company that has 80 years of experience. I have emailed the program coordinator (who is not based at the school) and I'm waiting to hear back from her. DD's a silent Celiac with a normal biopsy but her brother and father are both Celiac so she is going gluten-free before heading off to college in 1 1/2 years. Since she'll be dancing 5-6 hours a day she has to have enough calories to fuel her body.

I'm more than willing to a) send food to the company or school, travel to the program with her to buy food for the first week, but then she'd have to get to the store for more food and c) talk with the company. The dinning hall's web page has an email for questions for the registered dietician so that is encouraging.

Thoughts or experiences with this type of situation? I don't want to send the deposit for the program without knowing she'll be taken care of!

Roommate Should I Or Should I Not

I am a freshman in college, I went through disabilities and was put into an apartment(on campus) so I could cook for myself. All of last semester I didn't have a roommate, because the university was in charge of finding me one. This semeseter I still don't have a roommate, but I met a foreign exchange student who really wants to be my roommate. She doesn't have celiacs, but I have told her about it and she still wants to be my roommate. I don't know if disabilities would allow it because of how the accomidations were set up. What I really wanted to know is just some experiences with having celiacs and a nonceliac roommate. Like how you made it work, if it worked. Problems that were incountered. also I've never had a roommate (outside of my sister) before so I don't know how that would work either. Thanks, I told her I would think about it and get back to her sometime next week.

My DD (13) was hanging with her god brother (23) the other day at the mall & he offered to buy her an auntie anne's pretzel ( her favorite!!) & she declined saying she can't eat wheat. "Why? Does it mess you up?" Exactly! She then admitted to me she didn't know what to say to ppl who offered her glutenous food. Her god brother provided the answer "It messes me up!" That's her new mantra.

Possible Affects

I was diagonosed with celiac disease since I was a child. For about a year I had eaten a bit of gluten to see the after affects of it for myself and to really understand my symptoms. Im wondering how much damage I could have possibly done for myself. Im starting to feel chest pains below my heart and im wondering if I have developed osteioporosis. Is that possible? Is my recovery time counted as a child and within months or an adult within years?

If You're A Young Adult Struggling With Celiac

This topic is for those feeling depressed about their current health condition, and missing gluten foods, who happen to feel they're the only college kid/young adult dealing with such an issue. I have been gluten free for over a year now, & it feels like I learned a great deal about life from it. I found out I had some not so good friends (1 literally waved a 5 pound bag of flour under my nose when we were @ the store because he didn't believe me: then when I was sick for 2 days after, including my 23rd birthday, he believed me - he's no longer my friend needless to say) & some great ones. (I love my friends now: they ask when I don't feel good if anything was possibly cross contaminated, as they now know what that means) If you feel like your body isn't what you'd like, life will get better being gluten free, & we are all amazing the way we are: I've read posts on here from women feeling insecure about their petite bodies, when in reality, I like petite women & I care more about whether a woman is kind or not then about what she looks like, & I'm sure I can't be the only person who thinks that way. (Plus, cute ones always seem to not know they're cute, & that makes me like them all the more lol) So even if you feel like all your friends are turning on you because they don't believe you, don't worry: everyone on here believes you, thinks you're cool, and will never treat you bad because you can't eat gluten

Mother Nature's Gift To Women

For xmas DD got a gift from Mother Nature her 1st period! She is almost 14 so the timing is normal however she is barely 4'10. I was hoping she wouldn't get it yet so she could grow some more. She's been gluten-free since jun. Anyway I've heard that a girl's window of growth will close 2 yrs after her first cycle & on avg will not grow more than another 2-3 inches after the first onset.

I am 5'5 1/2 her father is 5'4. Both grndmthrs 5'2 & great grndmother 4'9. I guess it is reasonable to estimate she will grow to 5 or 5'1 at the most. 1 yr ago her bone age scan was age 10. We are going to do another one in Jan. She has a physical set for 1/16.

What do you guys think? Will she continue to grow slowly from now on or do girls typically have another growth spurt after her first menarche? If I remember correctly I grew a few inches the summer after I first got mine some 30+ yrs ago.( But my memory may be flawed. )

Of course everyone is different but just wanted to know about other women's experience/knowledge who are celiac.

so chime in ladies!
