Claussen Pickles Or Mayo?

I'm confused on what got me yesterday. I'm slightly new to going gluten free.
I had some tuna with mayo and a Claussen pickle yesterday. Something in that meal got me. I had a bad reaction, as I usually do when I ingest gluten. But through my own research, i've read where people are saying that Kraft will label if a product has gluten. But I am not so sure after having those pickles.
Both the Kroger mayo and Claussen pickles had vinegar in them which I thought were fine for me, and both also had "natural flavors" on the ingredient list which i know can be a hidden gluten factor. Kraft did not label these pickles as containing gluten like everyone says, so I'm confused if it was the mayo or the pickles.
Does anyone have any idea which item it was that got me? or was it both? Anyone else have problems with Claussen pickles? I've had other types of pickles with no problems.
Thanks for the guidance in advance!

Going through it again, just sick enough to KNOW I've gotten glutened somehow. The only thing I've had that's different is the Hershey's special dark miniatures. I read the bag and thought they were ok but now I'm reading online on many different sites that neither the special dark or any of the minis are gluten free. I swear I checked the label! What gives? I sure hope it doesn't last long this time

Any Irish Or Scotch Whiskey That Isn't Gluten Free?

First, I'm able to tolerate vodka made from grains quite well, so distilled alcohol isn't a problem for me. (Wine and sorghum beer give me stomach aches.)

I'm going to a pub tomorrow that serves beer (obviously a no-no!) irish whiskey, or scotch whiskey. I've seen a couple things on the internet with vague statements about barley mash sometimes being added back into whiskey. When I've looked on manufacturers' websites, I am not finding any info about gluten content.

So am I correct that straight whiskey is fine? But blends may be suspect? Or is that bad information?

Just makes me nervous when I see a description like this: "Glenfiddich: Speyside malt with grassy notes, chocolate hints and sweet maltiness." I'm assuming they're talking about the flavor and not malt IN the whiskey…

Thanks!

Lunchables Question

Ok...start of week 2 for my 11 year old. I have a question. I was looking at the Luchables "nachos". I can't really remember if it was the Kroger brand or actual Lunchables now. But...there were no gluten ingredients but it was made in a factory that manufactered flour products. So obviously they couldn't guarantee anything. These would be so great for when our friends ask us to go to Taco Bell (used to be weekly after church). Is this safe? I did an hour of nutritional counseling and didn't hear anything about this). I know cross contamination is an issue. How big of an issue for food processed in the same factory? I didn't buy it because I was scared. I find this in a lot of food. Do you guys buy it if it is made in a factory that processes wheat products sometimes. I still eat in restaurants that do so I was wondering if it is any different. Thanks

Wheat Grass = Gluten Free?

I bought a bottle of LIfeway Kefier Pomegranate Acai Blueberry . It is labeled gluten free. I have tried many of their other flavors with no problem, so I didn't bother to read the ingredients until after I had some. Wheat grass was listed on the ingredients, so was barley grass. You would think that because I am still recovering from a glutening right before the end of the year, I would be more conscientious, but no. I feel fine at the moment, but I plan to call the company tomorrow.
Is it possible the wheat grass and barley grass truley do not contain gluten? I have stayed away from it up until now.

Aluminum Starch In Cosmetics

This probably isn't a new question, but I'm having a hard time finding a definitive answer. I have a lot of trouble finding cosmetics I can use, based on multiple allergies, as well as the wheat/gluten problem. Cosmeticians will say that Aluminum Starch is derived from corn, but that doesn't really answer the question. Modified Corn Starch is derived from corn too, but can have wheat ingredients added into it later. SO: does anyone here know if Aluminum Starch is a completely gluten-free ingredient. It is in some Nivea products that I would like to try, but won't unless I know this one item is safe. Thanks!

Gluten Free Labeling Vs. Manufacutured On Equipment That Processes Products Containing Wheat

I was diagnosed with Celiacs disease in April of 2008. My question is concerning the labeling of gluten free products. I am wondering if it is legal for a company to label a product "Gluten Free" if it is manufactured on equipment that processes products containing wheat? Can they label their product with both?
Thanks for your help.

Yeast Extract

I have recently discovered that I am allergic to wheat/gluten by process of elimination. I break out all over in an ithcy rash. I am slowly getting a handle on the things I can and can not have. I too wonder about the yeast extact. I recently bought some pretzels that say on the bag that they are gluten free, but they list yeast extract in the ingredients. It's so hard sometimes to get a straight yes or no answer. One place will say yes, it's safe and another will say no, it is made from barley. Am I to assume that since the bag states that it is gluten free that they have taken messures to assure that the yeast extract is also gluten free?

gluten-free Protein Powders

I'm new at this gluten free thing! I have a gluten intolerance so my symptoms are much less severe than most people (thankfully). I can afford to be less picky and focus on ingredients of most thing rather than needing the certified "gluten free" products.

That being said, I'm attempting to find a good gluten-free protein powder that won't break the bank. I'm currently using Herbalife Protein Drink Mix. Here are the ingredients: http://catalog.herbalife.com/US/en//pdf/catalog/100907_SKU1122_us_label.pdf

The manufacturer said it was not certified gluten free but couldn't say one way or another whether that was just because of possible contamination or because it included some actual gluten ingredients. I looked through all of them and some were on the questionable list but as far as I could tell from the list above, none were gluten.

Can someone with a more trained eye look over the list for me? It's a big part of my diet so I'm hoping to figure it out and am not sure where else to turn. Also if anyone knows of some great gluten-free protein powders I would really appreciate a suggestion! Thanks all!

It contains interesting information on Bt modified corn, GMO salmon, and lots of other things you will probably wish you didn't know about.
I could not find this in a search, so I wanted to warn people.

I bought Jennie O oven ready turkey breast, because it states "no Gluten". No where on the package does it states that the gravy contains gluten, which it does. It does state modified food starch in the ingredients. Fortunately, My wife is not trusting. She check the website, which warns it contains gluten. I fired off a very angry email.

Spring Valley Vitamin E Labeling Problem

I just posted this in another area, but should have shared it here.

I've been feeling unwell for a few weeks and trying to find the cause has been killing me, but I think I finally have it. I reread labels on all supplements. The Spring Valley Vitamin E I started on a little while does not list soy as an ingredient, but it is not mentioned along with the things it is free of: gluten, salt, sugar, artificial color or flavor, starch, wheat or lactose.

That got me suspicious so I went to the manufacturer’s website and found that it contains soybean oil, but the U.S. labeling laws don’t require it to be disclosed because it is not considered to be an allergen. Well I know exactly what even small amounts of soy do to me so it definitely is a problem food. What a load of garbage!

I have a feeling that I will feel a lot better tomorrow when I get it all out of my system. I'm 7 months into being free of gluten, soy and a host of other things and I am still learning the hard way.
