Punta Cana Dominican Republic Gluten-Free?

Hello,
I'm going to be off to Punta Cana just north of the Airport. I'll be staying at a Condo and cooking most of my meals. It would be a nice break to go out to eat one or two nights so I figured I'd ask if anyone had good experiences at any restaurants near Punta Cana,DR? We'll be up near the Playa Turquesa. Playa los Corales is just south of where we'll be.
Cheers,

Going To Costa Rica

I am going to Liberia, Costa Rica in a couple of months. This is my first time out of the country since being diagnosed several years ago. Has anybody been there, and if so did you find it difficult to eat? I am planning to bring some things with me but not sure what I can get through customs and I definitely cannot bring enough stuff for a week. Any information will help...Thanks

St Augustine Beach - Restaurants? Grocery?

I'm taking my 3 children (5, 3 and 1yrs)on a roadtrip to St. Augustine Beach. We'll be staying in a house for the week so I'll prepare most meals but would like to go out a couple times. Are there any restaurants that are, not only child friendly, but have gluten-free options for kids too? Also, what grocery stores are there? I'll be shopping as soon as we arrive and would like to pick up some gluten-free treats for the little ones.

Danbury Ct

Making a unexpected trip Feb. 20th. There is a Trader Joe's close to the hotel we will be staying in. I've never seen or been in a Trader Joe's but I know people on here post a lot about their store. So do they have a pretty decent selection of gluten free items? I'm also gluten free oat intolerent. Anyone know if any of their private lables have issues with that?

There is an Outback, Bertuccis Italian Restaurant and an Uno restaurant. I have eaten at an Outback before, but have not heard of the last two. Both have gluten free menues/offerings listed on their websites for the area. Anyone have any experience with any of these places?

I don't expect to eat out often since I need to keep costs down. It would be a nice option for the kids and I (hubby is not gluten free) to have a place to eat out at least once and not worry to much. I plan to prepare meals at my father-in-laws house with my pans/food I take or buy. My goal is for the three of us to not get glutened while we are there. There will be enough stress as it is.

Los Angeles Area Recs?

I can't find a recent enough thread on this one - I will be traveling to LA next month and need some ideas of where to eat. We will be staying in Anaheim (I know Disneyland is a good option), but will be really all over the area over few days and am curious about your experiences. I am becoming incredibly food phobic as I just cannot seem to get longer than a few weeks without getting glutened (sometimes it is from eating out, sometimes it is from a thoughtless error at home, and sometimes I can't figure it out) and I fear I will never heal - anyone know of some good options where you feel really safe?

I booked our tickets today -- we go at the end of February! We're staying in a flat with a kitchen so I'll be making some of our meals but if anyone has suggestions of restaurants I'd love to hear them. From everything I read I should be able to eat better than I do where I'm currently living (Poland...the land of wheat in all recipes!) Also, gluten-free gelato...I cannot wait to try it. Sorry, I'll stop gushing now, I'm just so excited.

Food For Flight/airports?

Hello,

I'm going on vacation soon and our travel time to get to our destination is 17 hours. We have 3 flights (all in Canada and USA). I'm wondering if anyone has ideas of what food I should bring in my carry-on? I'm worried about not finding things to eat at the airport. I was thinking of nuts, gluten-free granola bars...but I got stuck at that and that's not going to last me 17 hours!!!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

General Tips For Italy Or Greece

My son will be travelling with a group in Italy and Greece. He will not be able to control where he goes so he can't use names of specific restaurants. I'm looking for suggestions that might apply anywhere in Italy or Greece.

Is there chain restaurants he should watch out for? Are there any gluten-free brands he could watch for? In the grocery stores, is there usually a "health" section?

I will definatley send the restaurant cards.

Thank you in advance!

Glutenfree In Punta Cana Dominican Republic

Hi Everyone, I booked a trip to Punta Cana shortly after I was diagnosed. Before I knew just how many things gluten was in and before I fell victim to the dreaded cross-contamination and its consequences. Now I am a month away from my vacation and need some advice on what kind of foods I should be fairly safe eating. It is a large resort with mostly buffet style but also some restaurants. I would like to avoid the buffet but I have read that the restaurants may be hard to get into - we plan on trying to make reservations as soon as we get there. I am also taking my own cereal and tons of snacks - worst case scenario I eat sparingly but still enjoy the sun and sand. Any advice from those of you who have been there would be much appreciated.

Slovakia Fyi

We're winding down our time in Europe and took a last minute ski trip to Slovakia this past week. We weren't in Bratislava (the situation might be better there) but in the mountains at a resort and eating gluten-free was just about impossible. Menus had very few items that I would even consider and servers had no idea when I would bring up the gluten issue. Luckily we drove down and our room had a kitchenette so I had brought food -- otherwise I would have been out of luck and very hungry. The only saving grace was the TESCO relatively nearby so I could pick up a few things I knew were safe. We have time for two more trips before we return to the States and I'm only going someplace I KNOW can handle the gluten-free diet with relative ease -- I'm voting Italy and Ireland!

Gluten Free Disney

We are going to Disney (Florida) next month! YEAH!!! CANNOT wait! I must admit I'm a little nervous though. I don't like going to new restaurants anymore knowing we will have to grill the waitress or the manager to find out what I can/can't eat. I don't like knowing my usual options are a bun-less burger or a salad. I have done some research (thanks to what I read on these lists) and contacted our hotel and made sure we have a room with a microwave and fridge. I will be bringing some of my own snacks for the trip down so I don't get desperate in an airport. The hotel has sent me the menu for the breakfast items so I know what I can/can't have there and I've printed out the gluten free menus for restaurants in close proximity to our hotel (we are not staying on Disney property, we're staying near the Maingate East).

So, for anyone who has done Disney gluten free - do you have any tips? Any places we should avoid at all costs? Any places we should definitely go to?

Thanks so much in advance!!!
