Need A Knowledgeable Doctor

every doctor so far that i have seen, has been all too quick to pin it on either IBS , colitis, etc. but i cannot get them to listen to the whole list of symptoms, so i cannot get them to switch their thinking. try as i might, i cannot find anything that suggests that there are that many doctors out there who understand that you don't have to be celiac to be gluten intolerant. in fact, my last doctor appt. with gastroenterologist, he looked at me and said, "you cannot be gluten intolerant because your test for celiac was negative." i am so sick of being sick, and i am desperate for a doctor that will listen, have patience with me, and be willing to explore options instead of being so quick to pin it on some general disorder. i don't even mind travelling a couple of hours to get to one. does anyone in my general area (southern new hampshire) have any ideas on some good doctors that may know something about celiac and gluten intolerance? it seems that the medical community isn't quite up to speed here........

Help! We Need A Dr In Okc!

We are navigating this kinda blind. My hubby has been having issues for years and finally got tired of being sick and having the constant diarrhea. so he went to our family dr. and she sent him to a GI dr in Norman. He did a Endoscopy to check for ulcers and erosion and ended up taking a biopsy and it showed Celiac. So we changed our diet. and after looking things up it looked like the kids (we have 3) all probably have it. the Dr ordered blood work. to me this seemed backwards. but OK...so that all came back Neg. they did the TTG test. Hubby has the genes for it, and was developing it. He feels so much better on the gluten free diet and is sticking with it. The kids are enjoying most of it. the dr didn't diagnosis him with it siting life insurance issues later? really? that doesn't make since to me. I'd really like another dr to get a second opinion. and for someone to talk to about our kids. TIA!

We Need To Start A Thread On Stupid Stuff Doctors Say!

"We need to start a thread on stupid stuff doctors say! It would be hysterically funny." Skylark posted this in another thread. So I thought I would get it started.

I sleep with oxygen at night in Nevada because I start breathing really slowly and shallowly at night and my oxygen concentration in the bloodstream drastically drops and sends me into atrial fibrillation. So I get referred to the sleep unit in New Zealand when I get back, with all my U.S. records and supporting documents saying that BiPAP does not work, but that supplemental O2 does. They do their own SPO2 study, I go for consultation with the "sleep specialist", and this is what I get:

"If one puts the issue of the intermittent atrial fibrillation to one side, then currently we would not regard the provision of nocturnal oxygen as geing indicated in this case.:" And what does he recommend? The failed BiPAP. (And this, I believe, is due to a comment he made offhandedly, "We don't do that (nocturnal oxygen) here." )

So here we have a doctor putting aside the problem he was consulted for and trying to find a solution to another problem not at issue, which appears to be expelling CO2, which is the reason BiPAP doesn't work because I can't breathe out against it. and it makes me ill with crazy blood gases. Gahhhhhh. Bangs head against wall, after a night of atrial fib. and a ruined day recovering from it Kill this guy

Liike all these cases, it is not funny, more sad than funny, but real. Sorry this one took so much explaining. Hope you hung in there

Doctor In San Mateo, Santa Clara, Sf Counties?

Has anyone had good luck with a doctor in the following counties: San Mateo, Santa Clara, San Francisco, or Contra Costa?

I live near San Mateo and would be willing to travel a little to a good doctor somewhere on the SF Peninsula.

I have read about the clinic at Stanford, but I tested negative for Celiac. However, I have very low IGA. So I need a doctor who understands this stuff and can test me properly. I have Hashimoto's and I seem to be gluten sensitive or perhaps gluten intolerant. I also suspect my teenage daughter may have some hidden gluten problems.

Thank you!

Opinions Please: What Do You Think Of This Doctor?

The owner of a local health food store recently told me about this doctor who is in my area. She is a naturopath who had her training mainly in France. She is not licensed as an ND in the US.

I have been looking at her website and I am intrigued. She has a lot of information on her website, including this article on Celiac/gluten intolerance.

Can you guys please review what she is saying and tell me: do you think she'd be a good person to go and see? I am looking for someone to help me manage my apparent gluten intolerance, my Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (I'll still see an MD for thyroid meds, though), and other things. Should I be concerned that she is not licensed in the US or in California?

Need Health Insurance

I'm been struggling to get health insurance for over a year now and I am 100% sure I have celiac disease. I have been gluten free for about a month now and I feel sooo much better than before. However, I was diagnoised with acute hyperactive thyroid a while ago and I believe I need to be a on medication for this now. I cannot get insurance however to see any doctors to treat me. I take a multivitamin and drink milk kefir daily to improve my health on my own but I am aware this is not enough. I am 22 and in my senior year of college and this is a very crucial time in my life. Please any advice will help!

Brother In Boise Looking For Md To Do Initial Testing

My son and I were diagnosed with celiac disease (here in Boston) last March and my brother in Boise is just now getting around to being tested. His MD seems unsure of why he wants a test - he has some random, unexplained symptoms that may be related to gluten, but no "classic" symptoms. I know he should get the test regardless of symptoms, just because it runs in the family. He current MD just doesn't seem to be up on the latest information. Can anyone recommend a doctor in Boise that is knowledgeable about celiac disease and the testing process?

Thanks -

Need Celiac Doc For Pregnancy Check Ups!

Title pretty much sums it up. I got celiac pretty bad, am pregnant, and need someone who knows what they are doing to check for the right things for this baby. I could go to the AHCCCS which is reduced health care, but those people probably will have no clue what celiac is.

I may need a naturopath, I'm on a very strict diet and certain vitamins I can't swollow or come right back up.

First Time Visit

Hi,

I'm new here, but I've been cruising the forums just taking in what I can. My name is Megan, and I have a daughter that is almost 17 years old, who has been miserable a lot of those 17 years, with pains that just can't be explained. She has also suffered from allergies her entire life, and has never had a clear day. We recently took her in for another round of allergy testing, to see if anything had changed from when she'd been tested when she was 5. We found she is "allergic to life" as she likes to put it.. all grasses, trees, cats, dogs, feathers, some molds, weeds, and a few others I'm probably not remembering off the top of my head right now. However, we mentioned the stomach issues, and wondered about food allergies.. and mentioned the things that seemed to trigger her most. When tested, THOSE all came up negative. After talking with friends & co-workers, they've mentioned the idea that maybe she has a problem with glutens. I was told she would need to see a pediatric gastro- since she is not yet 18. I searched for a couple of weeks, and everytime I thought I'd succeeded in finding one, I'd not like the reviews I'd read on them. I wanted to know I that I'd found a doctor who at least knows about gluten issues and what to look for and how to explain it, etc. Anyway, I finally settled on the only one I could find. We see them next week.

So, the question being, has anyone had experience dealing with Children's National Medical Center out of D.C.? I'm not actually going to the main facility, but one of the sattelite offices in Maryland. It's a good 50 miles from home, but it was closer than going to D.C. for me. I'm not really sure what to expect for the first visit, but I know I have to drive over an hour to get there, and over an hour back, and I'd sure hate to sit there forever waiting, and then only see someone for 15 or 20 minutes. Are there specific things I should be saying or asking? I almost feel like I'm drowning, trying to read the info out there.. all the terms seem so foreign to me.

I look forward to any knowledge that can be passed my way, in a way I can understand it.

Getting Tests Done

Here's my story. Last year I was dx'd with a b 12 deficiency and with the GI symptoms that I was having ended up having celiac blood tests done and an endoscopy. Unforunately my GI only took 2 biopsies in my small intestine, the rest were in my stomach and esophagus. All of those tests were negative. My GI told me celiac was impossible because my tests were negative with no family history. However, by then I had noticed that my GI problems were connected with gluten. My allergist at the time tested me for IgE allergies for wheat, barley, and rye. I came back with a weak positive for barley. He told me that if avoiding gluten bothered me to do so. Well I moved and my new allergist thinks that my asthma isn't asthma but a complication from the acid reflux I've never experienced. In two weeks I go back to see him where he wants to put me of a trial of prilosec to see if it helps. However, if I am going to have to add another permenant medication to my list, I want a firm reason to do so. My endoscopy did not show reflux a small patch of minor gastritis in my stomach but that was it. What I want is to be tested again. For both celiac and allergies spesifically IgG allergies. So, I guess my question is do doctors actually exist. I have heard both positive and negative things about that type of test. That some people do react to things but, it tends to have lots of false positives.

I guess I just want to know what tests to ask for.
