  1. New Celiac here and so far all my favorite hard candies have gluten in it. I have googled and searched for gluten-free and sf hard candies. Any recommendations that NOT cost an arm and a leg ? 🙈😩 Thank you !!
  2. Celiac.com 10/26/2023 - We get a lot of questions about foods and food products. We've recently gotten a bunch about chocolate. Lately questions seem to be about Mr. Goodbar. Mr. Goodbar is a candy bar made from crunchy, smooth and sweet milk chocolate with the crunch of peanuts, and is produced by The Hershey Company. Is Mr. Goodbar gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease? The short answer is no. Although the ingredients in Mr. Goodbar contain no gluten, Hershey does not list it on its gluten-free range of products as “being fully evaluated and qualify as gluten-free using standards established by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)." Mr. Goodbar ingredients include: Milk Chocolate, Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Chocolate, Skim Milk, Milk Fat, Lecithin, Salt, Natural Flavors, Peanuts Mr. Goodbar does not appear on our list of popular gluten-free candy bars. But, it does appear on our UNSAFE HALLOWEEN CANDY LIST. Because of this, Mr.Goodbar is not regarded as gluten-free. There may be some cross-contamination issues with their processing/packaging of Mr. Goodbar candy bars.

  4. Celiac.com 10/16/2023 - For Halloween 2023, we've updated out Safe Gluten-Free Halloween Candy list from A to Z with new candy by manufacturers, both large and small, to offer our best, most up-to-date list of safe, gluten-free Halloween candy, along with a list of unsafe candy that contains gluten and should be avoided by people with celiac disease or gluten intolerance. In addition to Certified gluten-free Oreo Cookies, we've included Snyder's Of Hanover's Gluten Free Pretzel Sticks. We've added new gluten-free treats by Albanese, Atkinson candy, Brach's, Canada Candy Co., Dare, Espeez Candy, Fun Sweets Cotton Candy, Gimbal’s Fine Candies, Maynard's, Tangy Zangy, and more! We’ve also expanded the manufacturer contact information for easier answers to gluten-free questions. While we do try to make both lists as complete and thorough as possible, but please do not consider the information definitive. Please only use it as a guideline. Because manufacturer formulations, recipes and practices can change, it's important to double-check labels, and/or manufacturer information. Candy that is reliably gluten-free at one point may suddenly be made with gluten ingredients. The opposite can also happen, as more manufacturers, when possible, are trying to use gluten-free ingredients. Before eating any candy on the list, please read labels, check manufacturer information, and choose according to your own sensitivity levels, or those of your loved ones. Feel free to comment below if we missed something, or have gotten anything wrong. For more information on Safe Gluten-Free Foods and Ingredients, consult our extensive List of Safe Gluten-Free Foods and Ingredients. For more information on Unsafe Gluten-Free Foods and Ingredients, consult our extensive List of Unsafe Non-Gluten-Free Foods and Ingredients. As always, Celiac.com wishes you and your loved ones a safe and happy gluten-free Halloween! This appears to have changed. Currently, Brach's states that any product "manufactured and/or packaged on lines in which other products containing any of the 'Big 8' will contain an allergen statement. Allergens listed explicitly in the ingredients may not be listed dually in the allergen statement. Ferrara products list all allergens in a CONTAINS statement immediately following the ingredient list on all packages. If there is no CONTAINS statement following the ingredient list, then the product has no allergens. Ferrara also uses a MADE IN statement, to note any allergens in the facility where the product is made for those concerned with allergies." 6. Celiac.com 01/10/2020 - “It's not Gluten-free Land over here!” Kim Kardashian told her younger sister, Kourtney. Fortunately for our readers, we followed the latest gluten-free developments on Keeping Up With the Kardashians, so you don’t have to. To the chagrin of some of our readers, gluten-free issues come up frequently in Kardashian world, and we try to keep up, so any Kardashian haters be forewarned, it ain’t always pretty, so read at your own discretion. In the recent episode, a tiff over candy versus healthy snacks had celebrity Kim Kardashian and sister Kourtney fighting about a planned Candy Land-themed party for Penelope Disick and North West, with Kourtney insisting there be no candy because of its "disgusting chemicals," which led big sister Kim to exclaim that "It's a Candy Land themed party! Yes! That's, like, what the party is about: Candy Land. It's not Gluten-free Land over here." All of this spilled out on the latest episode. We’ve mashed-up the conversation a bit for fun, but the substance remains the largely same. According to Kim, "Kourtney has this vision of no sugar or no disgusting chemicals in candy, but it's, like, a completely sugar-free, gluten-free, party-free, fun-free zone because Kourtney has decided that it just doesn't make sense, and it really wasn't the theme of what North and Penelope wanted for their birthday.” Kourtney, who is known for, among other things, creating a shade eye-shadow called ‘Gluten-Free,” told Kim that "There's just better solutions to things, instead of your dated candy that's, like, literally food coloring that gives people diseases.” Kim was quick to point out that "My kids eat at home really healthy. Really, really healthy. And the one day they want a Candy Land birthday party and you're saying they can't have sugar?" Kourtney went on to tell Kim that having candy at the party is not her "brand," which Kim pointed out, "Your brand? This is about a kids party. This is not about your brand." Kourtney argued, "Everyone's gonna come to this party and everything is gonna be disgusting chemicals? We need to have some healthy options." Kim stated, "If you're a kid and you think you're going to a Candy Land-themed party and there's just decorations everywhere and the Candy Land floor, but there's no candy?" Kourtney tried to explain that it's simply not what she stands for, which set up an extended exchange that led to Kim driving home her feelings about her sister’s statements: "Then why does your car have leather seats? Why are you wearing plastic glasses?" The entertainment went on in much this vein for the rest of the segment. Who won? Twitter users had plenty to say. Will there be candy at the Kardashian Candy Land birthday? You’ll have to turn into the episode for that information. We stopped soon after Kim dropped the mic what might become one of the great gluten-free digs ever: “It’s not Gluten-Free Land over here!” It’s a refrain that so many people with celiac disease live with every day. For us, it put a nice closure on the Great Kardashian Gluten-Free Candy Land Food Fight of 2019. We hope the kids enjoy their party. We hope you enjoy a merry, gluten-free Christmas and a Happy New Year! Meantime, here's a list of Safe Gluten-Free Candy. And yes, Snickers bars are also gluten-free.
  7. Celiac.com 08/26/2022 - Everyone who must be on a gluten-free diet usually gets asked about what regular gluten-containing foods they miss the most. In my case, one of those foods has always been a Kit Kat candy bar, which, unfortunately contains wheat. Recently, however, I had the chance to try a Trupo Treats Vegan & Gluten-Free Mylk Chocolate Crispy Wafer Bar, and was completely blown away by how great it was, and yes—they are even better than a Kit Kat! The Trupo Treats wafer bars are larger, and use lighter and more delicate wafers that are stacked up in layers that are separated by “Mylk” chocolate, which tastes just like actual milk chocolate, even though their bars are 100% vegan, as well as gluten-free. It’s great to see a new company that is dedicated to making plant-based treats which also happen to be free from the common 8 allergens (except coconuts), and their bars also contain 20% less sugar that the leading brand, are kosher, non-GMO, and all ingredients are fairly traded. It’s clear to see why Trupo Treats calls themselves the “Vegan/Gluten-Free Wafer Kings,” and thanks to them I can now finally cross Kit Kats off of my list of things that I miss the most after going gluten-free—and this just made my day! Visit their site and use Coupon Code “GLUTENFREE” for a limited time to get 25% OFF!

One of the most common product questions we see is: Are Snickers candy bars gluten-free and safe for people with celiac disease? The short answer is yes! Currently, all flavors of Snickers, Snickers Dark bars, Snickers fun size and Snickers mini's are gluten-free, according to website for parent company Mars. The longer answer is that it's always wise to check, as product formulation can change, sometimes suddenly. Look to Manufacturers for Gluten and Allergen Information Manufacturers are required to list any allergens on the product label. Mars lists allergen information for each product they produce. For any given Mars product, you can learn more by going to the Snickers website. Once there, click on any product. Scroll down and click the button that says "Ingredients and Dietary Suitability." You will find ingredients and allergens listed for that product. Remember, even this information is subject to change, so double-check if you're unsure. Gluten-Free Status Can Vary by Product Size A size difference in a Snickers or other candies can sometimes mean a change in the gluten-free status. Always check the ingredients for minis, bite sized, regular, jumbo and popable versions of your favorite candies. Each version can be different, and they may change suddenly. Some versions may be gluten-free or gluten-safe, while others are not gluten-free or gluten-safe. This rule applies for almost all foods. Of course, avoid eating anything you’re not sure about, or which doesn’t agree with your system. Trust your gut. Meantime, here’s an excerpt from the Mars' website statement on dietary suitability for those sensitive to gluten and other allergens: “At Mars, we take food allergies very seriously because they affect our consumers. We have an extensive allergen management program which includes staff training, evaluating our ingredients and validating our cleaning procedures. In order to avoid an allergic reaction to food, we know you must avoid the allergen. To do so, you count on the ingredient statements on food labels to be truthful and accurate. We want you to be able to trust the information on our labels. At Mars, our goal is to provide safe, high quality food products for our consumers. Therefore, we have developed strict rules about the labeling of allergens on our products.” Celiac.com strives to provide accurate, reliable and up to date information to help people with celiac disease to make safe, informed choices about gluten-free and gluten-safe products. 19. Celiac.com 03/29/2010 - For many cultures, Easter represents the most important religious feast of the year. In biblical terms, it represents a celebration of Christ being resurrected. Yet, for those of us unable to digest gluten, it is yet another holiday reminding us of all the foods we can't eat. Many of us that are gluten sensitive, myself included, spend so much time focused on the foods we can't eat, that it's easy to lose sight of all the wonderful foods still available to us. The fact is, most of our favorite foods are still safe to eat with a little modification of course. Being gluten-free doesn't mean that you can't enjoy a holiday meal with your family and friends. If you are going to be a guest for the holiday, make sure your host knows about your food sensitivities, and understands how to accommodate your needs. If they can accommodate you-great! If not, make sure to bring your own gluten-free foods to be sure that you don't go hungry, and to avoid the temptation of eating something you might regret later. You may want to consider hosting Easter brunch at your house this year. Cooking the meal yourself assures that your meal will be gluten-free and eliminates the possibility of cross contamination. Whether you are making Easter brunch or Passover dinner, it's all supposed to be fun. That's why I put together a list of links that are all geared toward making it the best gluten-free Easter ever! The following links are a compilation of gluten-free recipes and prepared foods designed to make your holiday easy and fun. Some of the following links will take you out of Celiac.com and into another site. You may want to bookmark this list so you can reference it easily as needed. Dig in and enjoy! Passover wouldn't be complete without matzoh. That's why the first recipe I've included is for gluten-free matzoh. The nice thing about the following matzoh recipe is that it's not only Kosher, it's also gluten, corn, sugar, dairy, and egg free! So even if you have many food restrictions, this is one recipe that is safe for almost everyone. Just add the matzoh to your favorite soup recipe, chicken or mock-chicken and you are ready to celebrate! Gluten-Free Matzoh Of course no Rosh Hashanah is complete without Challah. The following recipe is gluten-free and has an option to be dairy-free as well. Gluten-Free Challah with a Dairy-Free Option Most meat in its pure form is gluten-free. However, during processing many meats are injected with gluten ingredients. The following links will help you determine which meats are gluten-free. Although, it is always a good idea to contact the manufacturer to verify that their meat is indeed gluten-free. Gluten-Free Turkeys Gluten-Free Hams The following are some links that will take you to easy and/or already prepared foods for Easter and Passover. Gluten-Free Breads: Gluten-Free Breads Gluten-Free Frozen Bread & Rolls Gluten-Free Baking Ingredients Gluten-Free Gravy: Easy Gluten-free Gravy Mixes Gluten-Free Desserts: Linzertorte Frozen Desserts Frozen Pies Easter Candy: It is so tempting to sample all of the yummy Easter candy out there, but don't forget that many Easter Candies are NOT gluten-free. During Passover and Easter, there are so many opportunities to go to parties with friends and family where there is a plethora of Easter snacks and candy; even office events will put your sweet tooth to the test. I recommend avoiding the temptation to sample Easter candy that may contain gluten, by bringing your own gluten-free candy to social events. Bringing gluten-free Easter candy to share with others will make it easier on you when it comes to sampling, because you can sample the candy you brought while also sharing with others. Informing your friends of your gluten-free candy requirements is also an option, it might even make a good conversation topic. The following is a list of gluten-free Easter candy. Please remember to check with the manufacturer if you have any questions. Gluten-free Candy Easter Candy Safe/Unsafe List As a newbie to the gluten-free community, I also have many other dietary restrictions. That's why finding gluten-free food is only half the battle for me. I also need to find food that fits all my other dietary requirements. Here is a site that I came across while looking for gluten-free, vegan recipes. These recipes all sound really amazing and I can't wait to try as many as possible! I must emphasize however, that I could not possibly try all of these recipes. So it is up to you to try the recipes that sound good to you and decide for yourself if you like them or not. I know first-hand how frustrating it is to spend time and money trying out a new, yummy sounding recipe, only to follow the recipe exactly as it is written, and discover that it tastes so bad I end up going to bed hungry. Rather than going to bed hungry, I recommend trying a few recipes before your holiday meal as a trial run. If you try a recipe before your holiday event, you will have an opportunity to decide if you like the recipe and to modify the recipe to fit your taste buds if necessary. Destiny's Gluten-Free/Vegetarian/Vegan/Other Dietary Alternatives Gluten-Free Easter Eggs: The following recipe is great for those with dye sensitivities or anyone looking for a natural, healthy alternative to Easter egg dyes. Most Easter coloring kits require vinegar. Be sure to use gluten-free vinegar. Gluten-Free Vinegar Natural/Food Based Dyes: Red and Pink- pomegranate juice, raspberries, cherries, cranberries, red grape juice, and beets, red onions. (less boiling or dying produces a pink color) Orange – carrots, chili powder or paprika Yellow – turmeric, orange or lemon peels, chamomile tea, celery seed (turmeric does not need to be boiled.) Brown – coffee, black tea or black walnut shells Green – spinach or liquid chlorophyll Blue – blueberries, purple grape juice Purple – grape juice or blackberries, concentrated grape juice, violet blossoms, and hibiscus tea Gold - curry powder, yellow delicious apple peels, dill seeds Deep yellow- soak eggs in turmeric for a long time Teal- Soak eggs in turmeric solution for 30 minutes and then cabbage soak for 5 seconds. Bright Blue- Soak eggs in cabbage solution overnight (or just for a long time) Red/Pink-less boiling or dying produces a pink color Instructions: To begin, boil your eggs and when they are cool, store them in your refrigerator until you are ready to dye them. Alternatively, you can boil eggs with dye or cold dip, for 5 seconds up to overnight, and dry on wire wrap. To make each dye, bring water, vinegar, and color element to a boil, lower the heat, simmer 30 min and strain dye. Please note, you will need a separate base for each primary dye color you make. The rule of thumb for the dye is to use four cups of chopped fruit, vegetable or plant material to four cups of water. Add two tablespoons of vinegar. Bring to a boil and then simmer for 15 to 30 minutes (depending on how intense you want the colors). Eggs colored in natural dyes generally have a dull finish and are not glossy. If you want your eggs to look glossy, rub them with cooking or mineral oil after they dry. Keep your eggs refrigerated until it's time to hide them or eat them. Caution: Food safety experts recommend not eating eggs that have been sitting at room temperature for more than two hours. Gluten-Free Quick-Check: Watch out for hidden gluten-ingredients,(caramel color, natural and artificial flavors or colors, etc) Keep your hands clean Host Easter brunch Make sure all of your kitchen equipment is clean and free of gluten contaminates Bring gluten-free Easter candy & snacks to share If you buy prepared meats, check with the manufacturer to make sure they are gluten-free Trust yourself. If you think something might make you sick, don't take any chances Above all else, have fun!
