Schatzki Ring

Had another upper endoscopy because of trouble swallowing and doc found I have a Schatzki ring, I tested negative for celiac through blood test and biopsy but was wondering if anyone has found a correlation between having a schatzki ring and celiac. just curious!

Schatzki ring is commonly found in Eosinophilic Esophagitus.  There is now evidence suggesting there is a connection between Celiac and Eosinophilic Esophagitis.

 

What may be the simplest explanation of this, gluten is "triggering" your immune system to damage normal healthy tissue.

 

Keep a food journal to see if there are other allergen triggers for you.  The top 8 allergens and peas are the most common associated with EE.  What was your eosinophil count from the endoscopy?  Some doctors miss taking biopsies in the proper place because the eosinphils are embedded in the tissue, and look normal on visual inspection.

aren't the samples supposed to be taken from the esophagus? I"m sure that's where my samples were taken.  Thanks for the info, I was told eosinophilic esophagitis was ruled out,  just think it's weird first I had stricture and  now a schatzki ring. Am taking meds for acid reflux, so since the meds are controlling that, then why do these strictures/rings keep forming. hm.

 

will keep a food diary. Am almost 100% gluten free, but make a mistake here and there. oh and I don't eat peas(ick) so I know that's not the problem. 

 

I'll be getting copies of the biopsy so I'll take a look when I get it and see what the eosinophil count is and post back.

      Trying to read my lab results

      Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep...

      Constant low back, abdominal and pelvic pain!

      I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

      Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
