also was thinking about making Chili so wondering what types of spices I can use?

Ha Ha one more sorry the questions are just rolling off the top of my head, how about ranch dressing what brands are safe?

Pure spices are gluten-free. :D

You do have to watch for anything that is not a 100% pure single ingredient. Seasoning mixes bear close watch, as do things commonly thought of as "a spice" which are actually a blend of ingredients. Paprika may be a blend, and sometimes contains wheat flour. Curry powder is also a blend, and may also contain flour. Chili powder could also contain flour. <_<

Some imitation pepper is made from wheat germ, but if you stick to real, pure pepper, it is always gluten-free. :D

As an added thought, there is one thing to watch for on any food label, which indicates that you need to look carefully. That is words like:

"Made with 100% pure corn oil"

All that means is that the corn oil, which is one of the ingredients, was 100% pure. "Made from" is similar in meaning.

Kraft dressings won't hide anything...so if their label does not have wheat, rye, barley, oats then they will be safe. Do you have a list of the brands that won't hide anything?
Newman's Own has some gluten free dressings and so does Drews.

janelson--
i know those products--they are manufacturered by frontier, the coop i've joined. if you got pure spices they should be okay. i have some. the company won't tell you if there products are gluten-free or not. however, if you have their catalog they list the ingredients in all their products--in case you got a spice mix or something like that. if you did i could possibly check for you. mccormicks i use alot for spices. good chili spices to use would be: chili pepper, black pepper, cumin, salt, possibly onion/garlic powder. some like to sneak in some cocoa powder or sugar too.

ck the label...but you should be able to use a kraft ranch.
