Diagnosed Again

Hi.

I'm gluten-free for almost 4 months now, and I was diagnosed again.

My first diagnose showed this:

CELIAC SCREEN (Includes TTG and DGP): 236.0 U/ml

TRANSGLUTAMINASE_IgA: 55.90 AU/ml

Now I got these results:

CELIAC SCREEN: 10.1 U/ml

TRANSGLUTAMINASE_IgA: 5.85 AU/ml

ENDOMYSIAL Ab: Pos. 1:10

I understand the first two are good now.

My question is about the third one, what does it mean?

Thanks.

Edit: Perhaps this should be in the Post diagnosis forum...

You were not diagnosed again...once you have Celiac Disease you have it for life -- that your tTG has dropped significantly in four months means you are on the right track.  It can take time for the tTG, EMA and DGP to all get back to normal.

Were there more results from the first panel?  EMA or DGP

The second panel with positive EMA doesn't mean much without comparing previous results.  1:10 is a very low positive result...my guess is it was much higher four months ago and will completely normalize within your first year gluten-free.

Thanks. I know that, I didn't mean I was checking if I still had Celiac, just to make sure I have normal results.

There weren't any other results on the first panel.

The problem is that, although the results are good, I don't feel so well; I have lower-stomach pains, acne, and bladder problems.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ditto :)

Don't mean to dismiss...sometimes it simply takes time...four months seems like a very long time, but in the realm of healing from the damage caused from Celiac Disease it really has been a short time.

Because your numbers are improving...it certainly looks like you are on the right track.

No! Do not start the gluten free diet until you know whether or not you will be having an endoscopy/biopsy to verify the blood antibody test results. Starting gluten free eating ahead of either form of diagnostic testing can invalidate the results. You don't want to allow the villous lining of the small bowel to experience healing ahead of testing by removing gluten.

We offer a ton of recipes here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/gluten-free-recipes/ and have done some articles on fast food places, but keep in mind that eating out is a common source of gluten contamination: https://www.celiac.com/search/?q=fast food&quick=1&type=cms_records2 Many colleges now offer allergen-friendly, and sometimes gluten-free options in their student cafeterias: https://www.celiac.com/search/?&q=colleges&type=cms_records2&quick=1&search_and_or=and&sortby=relevancy PS - Look into GliadinX, which is a sponsor here, but many studies have been done on it which show that it may break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines.

Thank you! What do you recommend in the next 7 weeks until I see my Doctor?  Just start my Gluten free diet?

Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal.
