A friend is feeling much better on the FODMAP diet. She's been told that she needs a

Breath Hydrogen Test

She's also been told that she needs to eat gluten for 6 weeks before taking this test.  She doesn't have any particular reason to test for celiac based on this:

So can she take the breath test without eating gluten (she knows she reacts to all fructans, like onions, artichokes, etc.) and if she fails the breath test, then decide if she needs to formally challenge gluten, the protein?

Any input appreciated.

I always thought the hydrogen breath test was to check for an overgrowth of H.pylori bacteria, or at least it was with me. H.Pylori can cause symptoms similar to celiac disease so the doctors like to check it...That's how I understand it anyways.

I think celiac disease tests are either blood or endoscopy. Some doctors seem to like the stool tests but they are not widely accepted.
