Is it normal to lose weight on a gluten-free diet? I've been gluten-free for about three weeks, and my scale tells me I've lost 6 lbs. How do I get those lbs. back? If I really did lose them, I need to find them!

Hi Jenn M. I don't know if its normal to loose weight on a gluten-free diet but my husband is loosing weight also. He has been gluten free for about 3 months but had to do a gluten challenge a few weeks ago so it was like starting all over for him. Before the gluten challenge once he had been on the diet for about 4 weeks his weight loss had stopped and he went 4 weeks without any weight loss. He didn't gain any but we were just happy he wasn't loosing anymore. He has lost a total of 49 pounds now since June. He lost the biggest part of that 49 pounds while the doctors were trying to figure out what was wrong and now I think its because he doesn't feel great so he's not eating a lot. He is still having waves of nausea, bloating & belching. We are very strict with the gluten-free diet but we just found out he is also casein intolerant so that's probably part of the problem. How much are you able to eat during the day? Shane did his best before the gluten challenge and he was eating a lot of small meals thru out the day and he was feeling better and maintaining his weight. Hope your feeling better soon.

Jenn2005, I've been snacking like crazy, and putting a lot of honey in my whole milk plain yogurt and having a banana in my 4% milkfat cottage cheese. Plus, my pantry is "choc" full of chocolate in just about every form.

Peanut butter, eat lots of peanut butter. I got so sick of everything that I got hooked on peanut butter. I would buy the smaller jar and I would put honey in it and stir it up and just eat it in a spoon. Like savor it and I would wind up eating a cup at a time.

I have lost 12 pounds in less than two weeks now and I am not starving.

I have no problem sticking to it and since going gluten-free I don't have an insane craving for chocolate, coke or other sweet things. I was wondering if anyone has found this since going gluten-free?

I lost a lot of weight during the first six months after going gluten free. I have since managed to gain some weight, but it took a long time.

Then, suddenly, I began to gain weight. During the past few months, I have managed to gain about five pounds.

To what do I credit it? Branching out with my gluten free foods. I now bake cookies, pastries, breads, etc., all gluten free. I also eat pasta, copious amounts of Thai food and other goodies. Gluten free can be great, if a little more work.

The local Thai restaurant owner knows me by sight. She automatically tells me if something I am interested in on the menu might contain gluten. Many Thai foods do not, which is a bonus.

It also took more than a year for my stomach, intestines, etc., to recover from the gluten damage. That had a lot to do with it as well, I think.

Stick with it, you can do it too. It just may take a little time. I've been at it nearly five years now.

      Im still not gaining weight I’m on a gluten free diet . And still having issues with constapation started priobiocs figured it would help been over two weeks . I guess it’s going to be a long road for me .

      Enlarged lymph nodes in neck and groin with celiac are not uncommon. They can take time to reduce even after going gluten-free. Monitoring is key.

      Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

      I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.
