Places To Eat In Atlanta...

My oldest is going to Celiac camp next month - she's so excited to not have to think about food for a whole week!!

 

I will be driving her to Atlanta and dropping her off the next day.  It's a ten hour drive (no stops) so I'll pack food for the car - we can wing it.  My husband and I will drive out again to pick her up on a Friday and spend that night and all day Saturday in Atlanta then drive home on Sunday.  So, several meals worth of time.

 

Anybody from the area (or traveled there) and can give me some decent places to eat that are safe for my girl?  I'm not sure which area of town we will stay so many options would be great!

Fox Brothers BBQ is downtown and they offer gluten free (no gluten in their sauce). We have eaten there safely and it is really good. Lots of people there. My brother goes there all the way from the suburbs. Fishhook Grille (very casual) is gluten-free friendly. Nothing on the grille ever has gluten. Stoney River is gluten-free friendly, but pricey. Of course there are all the chains like PF Chang's, Outback, etc. I will try to think of more! I reside on the West Coast, but have family in GA.

We used to always have a rule that we wouldn't eat at chains while traveling - always preferred the "mom and pop" places.  Yeah, that's out the door now that the kids' diets are restricted!

Thank you so much - we *loved* Fox's BBQ!  We are living in the midwest so we eat way too much BBQ, but I'd never had smoked corned beef.  So good!

 

We also tried Legal Seafood (eaten there before going gluten-free) and it was painful.  Their frier was down so they were pan frying.  Not a problem until they tried to pan fry my food twice - burning it both times - before coming to tell me that they couldn't do it.  The issue was that my 8 y/o was there and starving because we sat for an hour before they came to tell me this.  So disappointing!

 

We also tried Your Pie.  A chain in the area.  SO GOOD!  Seriously, the best pizza we've had in a year.

DaVinci's Pizza has several gluten-free items great gluten-free pizza (well done suggested) and they don't have anything with gluten that goes in the fryer, so wing and fries are great all salad dressing made in house and gluten-free. 

Owners mom has Celiac so they're very empathetic. Cheers. And enjoy. I eat there all the time and have NEVER had an issue. And if someone just touches bread then prepares my food its all over for me 6-8 hrs of reaction for me. Also Jimmy Johns @ 17th and Peachtree Street also great just tellm'to change glove and ask for the paper to be placed on the sandwich board before they make it. Also never had an issue but I have only had the Italian style lettuce wrap.

If you want to drive, try Good Grubs Subs in Alpharetta.   They have a celiac in the family and are all set up for celiacs.  They have over 50 reviews and are 100% approved by celiacs on Find Me Gluten Free.     It's just sandwiches, but so nice to order and NEVER worry!  Thanks for the other recommendations.

      For 16 years I have relied on the website glutenfreedrugs.com to determine if a pharmaceutical is gluten-free. The website has been down for at least a week. Does anyone have any information about this outage, the status of the website founder and maintainer pharmacist Steven A. Plogsted or a phone number? I did not get a response for my email to glutenfreedrugs@gmail.com in October of 2022. Steven did respond to my emails in 2012. Thanks.

      Sounds like you are in the UK. With blood numbers that high, I thought docs in UK would give an official diagnosis without the biopsy. You should ask about that, so you can get support faster.  I'd try to find and print out anything that supports that in your country, get another appointment and take all of it with you. Even in the US now, some docs are doing this, my 19 year old step granddaughter got an official diagnosis here in US with just blood results a few months ago.

      Is soy sauce in Korea also made from wheat like it usually is in US? I'd be concerned that even if asking about gluten, they would not be aware of or think of some like that.

      That's a good idea. It can at least establish the potential for developing celiac disease and can help people decided between a celiac diagnosis and NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). And it doesn't require a gluten challenge and can be had without a doctor's prescription.

      Anyone had endoscopy with a cold/cough???

      I have my endoscopy on Thursday, has anyone had the procedure done with a cough? I don't have a continuous cough, but every now and then throughout the day I have sort of coughing episodes. They are a lot better than they were but I called endoscopy and they said to speak to my gp and my gp got back to me and said I need to ask endoscopy if its ok if I have it done still.  Help!
