Fast Grocery Store Staples On The Go

So, I often hit a grocery store quickly when I need to eat on the go because I prefer to limit eating out.

However, often I find that it's a challenge to quickly put together a balanced assortment of ready to eat foods when stopping at a grocery store. Probably my additional food restrictions don't make it any easier.

Like tonight, I ran into Aldi's and after much deliberation, ended up with some exotic veggie chips, a pack of hummus and some organic apples to eat on the go.

Does anybody have any favorite go to foods that they get at a grocery store when out and about?

A few weeks ago after the market I went to have a meeting with my bff/accountant. I stopped in at a local store that I know always has single serve salads. The salads usually have nuts and fruit in addition to the dressing. I also grabbed a pack of already cut up celery and apples with peanut butter and raisins and some protein drinks that were bogo. I love this store because they mark their produce down well before it is icky so it will sell by the sell by date. I was hoping to score when I went in and got my entire lunch (including drinks that are usually $3.29 each) for under $6.

All the local stores also sell individual packets of Justin's nut butters. Those go well with some pre-washed produce or an apple also. If there is more than one of you, maybe the rotisserie chickens are gluten free at one of your local stores. Warm or cold they're delicious and easy. Heck, if you keep paper plates and forks you could even grab a ready to eat bagged salad and turn it into salads with chicken for a meal for a few people. Maybe adding things like Larabars, Trio bars or Kind bars could help balance out meals.

When I'm grabbing an on the go meal, I try not to worry too much about making sure it's a totally balanced meal. I figure in the big picture it'll balance out, and as long as it's more or less healthy-ish I'm doing ok.

I will get cheese, deli meat, crackers, cut up veges, etc.--at least I did.  I used to stop at a really great meat market that made all of their own cheese and get lunch from them!!  It's going to be a lot harder now having to watch for gluten that is for sure!!!  I did buy one of those coolers that you plug into your car to keep food cold so I can pack more from home when I travel for work!  There was a thread here about that.  I got it at Home Depot. It's soft sided and was $40.

You can get a plug in cooler for $40? I should totally check into that!

My store had them back by the appliances, not with the other coolers.

I buy deli meat, cheese, apples, blueberries, grapes, pea pods, avocado, almond milk. Lots of easy to-go foods at the grocery store.

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?
    • mishyj
Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
