When I Exhale Through Nose I Smell My Feces?

I can't explain it more than that. I didn't realize that was the smell until today when I had to submit a stool sample and inadvertently smelled my feces and I was like "that's the exact same smell I detect when I exhale with my mouth closed though my nose". It's like coming from deep in my GI tract but I can smell it.

I also did the Candida saliva test and it looks like I definitely have Candida. But, I also had Glidean and IGG antibodies positive as well as blood in my stool via a fecal blood occult. My gastro said it's most likely celiac and wants to do endo/sig whatever but I decided to do more tests.. as I went to a doctor and the doctor suggested I get tested for parasites and Candida.

I also have diarreah (loose) daily but it's only in the morning.. once.

More info: Ive used Accutane as a teen as well as tons of antibiotics for acne.. and now I'm 35. All of this started a few months ago after I had a c-section.

Any of this sound like good news??? HELL NO. I was terrified to DEATH of an endoscopy but now I can't stop thinking about it.. I might as well get the endoscopy as living like this is way worse. I can't continue living like this, constantly googling symptoms, going to see doctor after doctor for second opinion.  All I talk about with friends and coworkers are my GI symptoms and how scared I am.

Just tired.. want answers!

If you have a candidia or bacterial overgrowth issue, that could make parts of the body smell in a distinct manner.  It also could just be what you eat.  I hate to ask this, but do you brush your teeth and the tongue regularly?  Even if you do, breath also comes from farther within, which is why garlic breath stays past tooth brushing.  (Thank god I, a garlic lover, have a husband who tolerates it).  Other distinct foods can do the same.

You just need to forge ahead with the endoscopy.  If you get yourself worked up when you google symptoms, try your best to not do that.  You can also ask to be put on the cancellation list so if a spot at the endoscopy center opens up, you can get it done sooner than later and not worry as much about it.  At this point, the benefit of you getting this easy peasy diagnostic procedure outweighs any minimal risk.  You are not an 81 year old person so you are not going to have the same anesthesia risk as the celebrity who passed away that you mentioned.  The next step is to get yourself diagnosed so you can get on track to being better.  Otherwise, you will continue to suffer.

Have you had the celiac panel blood tests? That might be a good first step. Then if those are positive talk to your doctor about your fears of the endoscopy. If the doctor can not lay those fears to rest ask him/her if positive blood work with levels decreasing after being on the diet and symptom relief is enough for him to consider diagnosing you.

That said, the endo is pretty easy procedure. It does not take long and so the time under is very short. There are always risks with any procedure but that one is (IMHO) one of the least risky.

Yes!! I brush 2x daily and floss 1x daily, it's definitely not hygene related. It's something internal.. seems to be uncommon!

Yes! I had the celiac panel done hence the elevated IGG and Glidean antibodies!

I'm hoping it's Candida but I'll update this thread when I find out exactly what's going on. Have a pending Candida blood test.. will also do scopes (after I'm done procrastinating)

Hi , Ftmama , it could be common tonsil stones , it seems to fit what you are describing , perhaps google tonsil stones and see if that could be the problem , because sometimes they can hide in the crypts inside the tonsils , you can buy something to flush them out leaving your breath smelling fresh again :)

Hey jiggles, my point actually is that I DO NOT HAVE BAD BREATH   B)

It's just this smell from inside my GI or something when my mouth is CLOSED.

Hard to explain..

Hi Firsttimemama2014 ,

I understand you don't have bad breath ,

but because this only happens when you exhale with your mouth closed ,

(no matter where the odour is coming from )

it seems your breath is carrying it up to your nose ,

so if were tonsil stones you wouldn't have to worry about looking any deeper ,

also they can be caused by antibiotics leaving behind small particles of trapped bacteria in the throat ,

sorry for not being clear :) x

Jiggles is right on. I had the same issue! It was totally tonsil stones. I had my tonsils removed (I tried removing the stones and a slew of other remedies first to no avail) and tada! No more nasty smell, I sleep better too :)

I dunno.. the smell seems to be coming from my GI tract. Anyway, I will work on that.. maybe see an ENT!

Endoscopy on Tuesday, wish me luck.. NOT getting sedation ;)

Hi Firsttimemama2014 ,

If they are present , you may be able to see them for yourself in a bright light ,

also good luck for Tuesday

you are very brave to have an endoscopy without any sedation, especially with you being pretty scared

may I ask why your not getting sedation

Unless you have a medical reason to avoid anesthesia, I highly recommend getting the sedation, makes it quick and easy.  If you are afraid of the anesthesia, then it is better to do it without than not at all, I suppose.

I'm afraid of complications and dr told me that the only real complications arise from the sedation. I have a new baby to take care of.. I cannot take ANY risks! It's just mama strength I guess?

Also, my GI told me in China they don't sedate patients! And, she said she had it done to herself without sedation and it just felt like cramps.

When I had my wisdom teeth removed, I only had a lil bit of laughing gas and then drove home!

I'm only scared of the sedation.. breathing/heart problems. Yes I'm only 35 but it can happen to anyone!

Jiggles.. I am about to throw up.. I just watched this OMG SO UTTERLY DISGUSTING

OK going to check now to see if I have white stuff in my tonsils (I highly doubt it)

Nope, nothing gross visible anywhere in the back of my throat, as I suspected. It's coming from deep in my stomach or intestines. I'll bring it up to the dr before she does the scope so she can keep an eye out for perhaps an opening or something that is allowing me to smell my insides.

They can be hidden in there so definitely a good idea to have a doctor poke around and look while he is in there :)

I think I am an old chickie that has seen and read a lot of health info BUT this video of the tonsil stone shocked me. I had never even heard of a tonsil stone before! Thanks for that one....gag

They truly are disgusting. Not all can be seen or dug out. I'd definitely have the doc check how your tonsils look since she's going right by there with a camera anyway.

I hope you get some answers soon! Good luck. I had 'twilight' anesthesia for both my endoscopy and my colonoscopy. I have no memory of the procedures but wasn't fully under.

Hi Firstimemama2014 ,

Nope I couldn't bring myself to watch the video ,

yes fran it does look rather shocking , I am hoping I don't accidentally press the play button ,

But just looking at the the photo , it does look like a rather extreme case :P

Not officially diagnosed yet I goto the doctor a week from today but I'm 110% that will be the diagnosis I honestly can't believe my doctors/health care team hasn't put it together before I mean I'm basically the live and walking definition straight from the book haha I don't think I've ever been so sure on anything before I'm just reqly concerned for this diet I will be living on or diets I guess due to type 1 diabetes, gastroparesis, gerd, celiac disease, and lactose intolerance...what is left? A sand salad with a side of rain water?!? I definitely see a tough future

Welcome to the forum, @Tlbaked13! Have you been officially diagnosed with celiac disease? It is well-known that celiac disease can result in peripheral neuropathy but so can diabetes.

Lactic acid bacteria start to develop as soon as flour and water are mixed, so I assumed that in a yeast dough with long proofing time there could be some effect of fermentation and gluten break down.

I am COMPLETELY new to this celiac disease however I have had the same feelings and then some with my feet for years now and been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy myself but they blamed and attempted to treat due from my type 1 diabetes and none of the treatment has helped at all so far so possible from celiac disease? Just sharing MY thoughts on this I've had zero confirmation
    • Hannah24
I've not heard of the DNA test I will definitely look into that. And I did not know that the neuropathy was symptoms of vitamin deficiency. I have been trying to get on a good vitamin regimen. Thank you!
