Canned Pears

Wasn't sure where to put this but here goes...

For a long time I couldn't eat canned goods. Now I can.

Here in my area it's almost impossible to get decent produce. The few times I've bought fresh pears they were rock hard and rotted before they ripened. So I have recently started buying canned fruit and I am running across the same problem!!

So far I have tried two brands (both "store brands") and the darned pears were so hard I couldn't eat them. They were sour too. They weren't even close to being ripe!

So I am here to ask two questions. First, can I bake these things and make them edible? And more importantly, does anyone here buy GOOD canned pears and if so, what brand?

Thanks.

Do you have access to good frozen fruit in your area? That can be a good substitute for fresh, especially for expensive out of season fruits.

Yeah, I can get frozen blueberries but I've never seen frozen pears. Those are the only two fruits I would go out of my way for. Peaches are OK, and oranges are OK, but blueberries and pears are the ones I crave. And canned pears would be so convenient. I could keep some on the shelf here at work and some at home, just like I do with canned soup. This winter has been so mild I haven't had to worry about it but in the past, there have been nights I couldn't get home and had to sleep here. (Darned hill I live on top of and no four wheel drive. ) I like to keep plenty of food here just in case.

What about these?  Haven't had them in years - but they used to be fine.

I'll check the other grocery store. The one I went to had only the store brand and Del Monte. I talked to an old guy yesterday and HE said he can't find decent canned pears anymore either.

For canned pears I think it is worth it to pay more for the name brand.  I usually buy the kind in light syrup or in juice, no artificial sweetners.  I know what you are talking about with the weird hard crap that some brand pass off as pears.  Like, really, you sell this?  LOL...  you could probably sprinkle sugar on them and put them in the fridge for a while to improve the flavor.

Also, here is a recipe page I dug up. Looking at some of the stuff I found, you can use them in any pear recipe where you cook them, kind of like canned vs fresh peaches.  Open Original Shared Link

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?

Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
