Safe (No Cc) Corn Tortillas And Chips

I do a lot of shopping at Trader Joes and have found I have celiac like pain after eating their corn products. I don't think this has happened with Mission brand chips and I don't have issues at Chipotle or Mexican restaurants that don't share fryers. So I don't think I have an allergy to corn.

But I'd like to try eating corn that I know is gluten free in production. Where can I find some? Can I get gluten-free corn tortillas and chips online somewhere? I don't seem to find them in WF, my regular grocery seems only to have Mission. I don't believe Mission claims to be gluten free, though I've had good luck with them.

Also, if anyone does have dietary allergies, not to ask TMI, but is there diarrhea, gas, etc.? I don't get that with gluten, just intense pain, like an alien is trying to claw out. When I have corn from unreliable sources, I get a similar upper abdomen scratching feeling. Would allergies feel like this?

Thanks,
Megan

We eat Mission Chips all the time. Never been glutened. I just ate some Guerrero tortillas that are not certified but are gluten free. They crank out so many tortillas that they never share lines. So, knowing that they also process wheat flour tortillas is fine with me. They are not good my my diabetes, but a fresh package? Yum!

Costco has several gluten-free certified chip products.

What you describe could be an intolerance. My nose, eyes, swelling, itching, etc. Are usually involved with my allergies (e.g. Nuts).

You could try corn on the cob if you are just trying to see if corn bothers you.

Kareng, Thanks for that info.! I hadn't realized they were labeled gluten free. I will stock up at Costco =). I have good luck with so much luck at Trader Joe's (waffles, bread, etc.) that I was worried it might be corn in general.

Cyclinglady, that was always my thinking. That if you buy the exclusively Mexican brands they wouldn't have much reason to CC.

Hopefully we don't have to cut this one. We love tortillas.

One sure bet for safe corn tortillas is to make your own with Bob's Red Mill gluten free masa harina. :)

Guerrero is labeled gluten-free as well.  I buy that or mission.

It is more likely that it is the corn itself that is bothering you. Corn is very hard to digest.

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?

Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
