Took a short road trip yesterday with a really good freind to a gluten free bakery in Upstate NY.

While a bit hard to find it was well worth the trip. We tried almost everything they had and it was all so good. They only do gluten free and are also soy free.  They have pizza, pies, cakes, cupcakes, muffins (the banana choc chip is to die for), breads (sandwich and Italian, I ate almost all the Italian loaf for dinner last night) and they will do special orders if folks need egg free or Vegan. 

If you are near Rochester do make a trip. It will be well worth it. We loaded up on enough pastries to keep me happy for a long time. I portioned a lot of it and froze but will likely still gain 10 lbs in the next month. 

I don't know if they ship stuff but they do have a website that might give that info.

thanks  Raven,,,,  we go to Buffalo  to visit  family & usually make  a trip  to Nick's & Silvana's  for  a  lunch...in Rochester... They  have the best  cream puffs...& are  very nice  people.... Have you been  there?  It is a small café & bakery. Pizza's are  very good...

I will be in Rochester Monday so maybe we will check them out. Haven't had a cream puff in years. Ellies is in Fairport right outside Rochester near Route 31 on Turk Hill Road. They are right by the canal with a park on the other side that we plan to check out next time we go there.

Since this post got moved to Restaurants it should be noted that this is NOT a restaurant it is a bakery. It is not a eat in establishment, no tables or chairs even. Please don't go expecting to be able to do more than stand at the counter to sample a cookie or muffin you purchase before buying a quantity of them.

      Be sure to keep eating gluten daily until all testing is completed.  Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:

      You can always to the gluten challenge later, after your pregnancy, should you need a formal diagnosis. I think it's best to play it safe in this case.

      Very true. I also suffered from candidiasis which had affected my intestines and toes. I think this might have triggered my gluten intolerance/celiac.

      Welcome to the forum community, @Jesmar! The HLA DQ2 and DQ8 genes were the original halotypes identified with the potential to develop celiac disease. Since then, other genes have been discovered that apparently afford a predisposition to celiac disease. As is always the case, these new discoveries are not yet common knowledge and not yet widely dispersed in the medical community. It is not genetically as black and white as we once thought.
