I Think My Partner And I Might Have Celiac's Disease

Hi,

My partner and i have an appointment next week to get the ball rolling, but i can't stop thinking about it and just wanted to have a chat to someone about it.

My partner is 32, he is very fit and thin.

He has some big indicators

Autoimmune disease - severe psoriasis

Infertility - we had to use ivf for our son.

Sudden onset of fatigue /sleepiness when he eats breads, pasta etc

Gas, stinky gas, always.

horribly stinky poo.

im 27

My symptoms.

bloated always.

very very gassy.

loose poo more often then not.

cramps.

Fatigue, muscle weakness, shakes, dizziness,

unexplained high blood pressure

as a kid i had very bad joint pain, always aching, hot or cold, no matter what. i was always "off with the fairies/foggy minded"

I have been to the hospital a few times in my life for heart palpitations. i have had a 24hr halter and stress test, all normal.

start of this year i went back to the dr because my strength in my hands is weakening and i have been having cramps in my legs. twitching lips and eyebrow, hand and arms. losing balance when i stand, very scary stuff. i had a blood test then and had elevated liver enzyme. he was going to do more tests but i never went back (1 year old bub and the dr wasn't very interested )

About 6 months after bub was born i got dermatitis herpetiformis on my hands for the first time in my life. ( its gone now )

So i have a few weaker symptoms then my partner but i think i might be on the right track for both of us.

Does any of this look like it could be Celiac's Disease?

Yes it is a good idea to get tested. Do not go gluten free until all testing is finished. If one or both of you are celiac please know that the baby needs to be tested as do all your first degree relatives. If baby is negative do retest every couple of years.

thanks for the reply :)

What age would he get tested ravenswoodglass? he is 15 months old now. my partner also has a 9 year old, my parnter is adopted so we are unsure of any history on his side. No known celiacs on my side.

Toddlers are the hardest to test accurately, but you can test at any time.  If there is a negative test but you suspect celiac disease yet continue consuming gluten, you should retest every two years for his entire life.  Celiac can manifest at any time.  :(

Thank you so much, everyone. For the moment my doctor just has me taking iron but hopefully we can reconnect soon. I'm going to look into genetic testing, too. Great advice all around and I appreciate it--and you can bet I'm going off the PPIs!

I walk fast for fitness, 4 to 6 km per day. I am also 74 years old. Apart from the Celiac challenge, my lifestyle is healthy. I had a sciatiac nerve pinching under my one foot, with inflamation in my whole shin. It was almost cured, when the other shin started paining and burning. I do stretches, use a natural cooling gel and rest my feet. Can Celiac cause muscle pains/inflamation, or is it just over-excercising?

I recently started shopping at a nearby Trader Joe's store. I was surprised at the number and variety of (healthy) gluten-free options sold there. I must admit their low prices are also quite tempting. However, I am curious as to the labeling on all their packages. While none of their products are certified as gluten-free, many are identified as 'GLUTEN FREE' on the packaging. Are these items safe for celiacs? Has anyone tried Trader Joe's products and have there been any adverse reactions?

HI, my doctor suggested one week of consuming gluten before blood tests.  I have been gluten free for 3 years.  Has anyone been through this and will I get exact results after one week of consuming gluten?  I don't even know if I can do this, if I get sick I am not sure if I can continue, any suggestions??  Thanks in advance.

I did reach out to them on April 4th and left a message. I will try calling again. Thank you!
