I have this white line on my ring finger, and 2 spots on my index finger and pinkie(which are all on my left hand). I was examining my fingernails today and i also noticed that i have slight vertical ridges on my left hand fingernails, but my right hand there are no spots and really no ridges except for my thumb nail. I don't really understand what all this means- i'm sure something- right? The moons on my left hand are also a little smaller then my right. IS that bad? :unsure: Hmmm.. so confusing!

I also have that. I was told that it is psyriosis (spelling.. sorry!). My nails actually peel away from the beds now. They said to not keep them covered, but I do because they are NOT pretty!! :)

I swear I've seen fingernail ridges on a symptom list of celiac somewhere. But it's hard to know how deep or strong the ridges would be in order to be considered not just average fingernail ridges. I've also heard that the white spots on your nails are a sign of vitamin deficiency, but I don't remember what vitamin. But I've also heard that the white spots can be a slight injury, and is just a spot where the nail itself came away from the nailbed.

I guess it's hard to know unless you've got something else to compare to.

It's kind of like on celiac symptom lists where they list smelly poop as being a symptom. Ummm.... It's poop. Are they trying to say that there are people who DON'T have smelly poop? :blink:

Very interesting. It says that ridges can indication poor nutrient absorption.

I had my nails sent off to a lab, and it was psoriasis. mine looks like i scratched up my nails with sandpaper and could be easily confused with fungus. psoriasis is related to celiac disease and if you get your gluten under control, it should improve (mine seemed to). there are creams available to help with this too. you can also get this on your toenails which will cause thickened nails that can be confused with fungus too.

      Enlarged lymph nodes in neck and groin with celiac are not uncommon. They can take time to reduce even after going gluten-free. Monitoring is key.

      Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

      I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.
