Hi hi!
Just a question for the people who do react to glucose syrup...
Are your symptoms the same as with a regular glutening or slightly different or...?

You do know that glucose is sugar, not gluten? I have never had glucose syrup. Isn't that what they give you in the hospital, or are you finding it in food? Are you saying maybe it's cross-contaminated?

Sorry, I mean glucose syrup from wheat :) . Or dextrose, for that matter. Those things with minimal ppm that are technically safe and many people don't react to but some do.
Someone was telling me it was because there IS no gluten but a lot of celiacs are allergic to wheat and do react because of that (hence packaging saying 'contains wheat' but not 'contains gluten'. Because some people are wheat allergic). I was just curious whether the reactions are the same (meaning it probably is a response to a tiiiiny amount present?) or different or. :)

OK, I just looked it up. Guess it's not the same thing they give you in the hospital. It is indeed in food. And it looks like they do use wheat sometimes, which wouldn't be a problem because they would have to label it as such being that wheat is one of the top eight allergens. But they also use barley sometimes and they DON'T have to label for that. It looks like it is mostly used in candy. I guess if someone sees it in the ingredients they would have to contact the company to be sure.

We were typing at the same time. :D

Anyway, I am totally sugar free so I've never had it. Can't help you with what my reaction is like. Back when I did eat sugar it was only organic things with organic cane sugar. It took a while to get over missing ice cream, but I finally AM over it and feel much better.

I walk fast for fitness, 4 to 6 km per day. I am also 74 years old. Apart from the Celiac challenge, my lifestyle is healthy. I had a sciatiac nerve pinching under my one foot, with inflamation in my whole shin. It was almost cured, when the other shin started paining and burning. I do stretches, use a natural cooling gel and rest my feet. Can Celiac cause muscle pains/inflamation, or is it just over-excercising?

I recently started shopping at a nearby Trader Joe's store. I was surprised at the number and variety of (healthy) gluten-free options sold there. I must admit their low prices are also quite tempting. However, I am curious as to the labeling on all their packages. While none of their products are certified as gluten-free, many are identified as 'GLUTEN FREE' on the packaging. Are these items safe for celiacs? Has anyone tried Trader Joe's products and have there been any adverse reactions?

HI, my doctor suggested one week of consuming gluten before blood tests.  I have been gluten free for 3 years.  Has anyone been through this and will I get exact results after one week of consuming gluten?  I don't even know if I can do this, if I get sick I am not sure if I can continue, any suggestions??  Thanks in advance.

PPI's can be a wonderful healing agent when used as prescribed on the label which I believe recommends use of up to 8 weeks. But they are like antibiotics in that they are overprescribed and undermonitored. Docs generally prescribe them and then keep prescribing them because they take care of immediate symptoms so well. Physicians are more into treating symptoms than uncovering causes.
