How soon after endoscopy can I eat?

My GI is doing an endoscopy along with my every-10-year colonoscopy because some of my antibody levels are still elevated.  How soon after the endoscopy can I eat?  I need to take some medication that day and am trying to decide if I will take it with water an hour before my a.m. colonoscopy prep (divided prep) or after the whole thing is over.  The pills are huge and I'm not sure I can choke them down without food, so I may wait until after but don't want to wait too long either.

You really to ask your doctor about the medication, especially about taking it the morning of the procedure.  Is this your first colonoscopy?  If those pills are slow to dissolve they could still be seen in your colon during the procedure.  Or they could just be swept right out with the prep solution (more likely).  You cannot have anything to eat or drink the morning of the procedure, except water and the prep solution.   As for after, I don't know about the endoscopy, but you can eat "easy" foods immediately following the colonoscopy.

Ask the doctor's office!  But usually you can eat right after if you feel like it.  But ask them!  Some of them will try to give you crackers, so you may want to bring some gluten-free applesauce or Rice Chex

There are two doctors involved and they have different recommendations.  I had a colonoscopy 10 years ago and took the medication the morning of the procedure, but all the prep was the night before.  If I take it one hour before I start the morning prep that will be too far ahead of the procedure, so I'll take it after, whenever I'm allowed to eat.

I'm pretty sure that in stores, you can find plenty of gluten-free options. But they are usually a bit more expensive.

Hello @BunnyBrown and welcome to the forum. I cannot say that I have had the procedure you describe, but recently I did have general surgery and was routinely intubated.  That pain was what troubled me most after the operation, far more than the operation site.  It took a few days to really settle down, I was quite badly bruised. It was taking so long I was a bit concerned so asked the question on another forum. A few patients came back to me and said they had suffered the same.  I imagine in my own case possibly the throat got bashed about a bit,  maybe they had difficult inserting the tube?  I've suffered with a painful throat post-endoscopy too, but never as long as the intubation pain.   I hope you will be feeling better very soon.   PS BTW - love the name!  I saw this today in an Easter display in a shop and your name reminded me of it.🙂

This wonderful, Anne. I think you have a point about why people disappear off forums.  I found the first few years post diagnosis a real struggle and frankly wondered if I would ever feel better (not to dishearten people, but just to say it can take a while longer for some folk to heal).  However, once my antibodies were back within normal range it really has made a big difference to my health.  I've chosen to stick around because I'm a Mod, otherwise I might have been one of those that disappeared, too!

Just a quick question, can the host live in any state in the USA?
