hello all, im going to the dentist for a teeth cleaning next week and i was just reading that the stuff they use to clean your teeth with may not be gluten free. has anyone else heard this? this is my first time with this dentist, is it totally bizarre for me to ask him not to use the cleaning stuff? plus i am against the use of floride and i know they have that in there. what should i say to him? just use water?!? lol!!!any suggestions?oh and i was wondering if anyone else here has had any tooth enamel problems that are related to celiac disease? i think i may have a problem with that.
thanks
alexis

Use plain pumice or bring your own toothpaste.

Some celiacs do have problems with their tooth enamel. It can absolutely be related. I have called to check on dental products in the past. Just call their office and ask for what they'll use, and get the company info. Then call. Then you'll know before you get in there. Everyone's been very helpful when I've done it.

Alexis--as Merika stated, call your dentist, in advance and ask them to verify that the products they will be using on you are wheat, barley, rye and oat free. My dentist had a book that listed all allergens including gluten in their products to cross reference. I found out there was another Celiac going to my dentist too. It is a medical office, so they should be able to determine whether their products are safe. Just give them time to check.

Ditto - I called my dentist and they have other celiac patients and one of the cleaning gals' daughter has celiac so some of the people in the office were very aware, but not all. They also confirmed my other intolerances.
