Possible Egg Allergy?

Hi,

I've been gluten-free for a couple years now, and have recently been noticing sensitivities to other foods. I had to eliminate soy and most dairy because they caused disgestive problems. But today was something new for me.

I tried a new recipe for cheese meringues (just egg whites, grated cheese, salt and pepper). The cheese I used is one that I can handle, so I don't suspect the cheese. But after eating one meringue (about the size of an apricot), both of my ears went all cottony...like they were suddenly filled with cotton, and there was a sort of ringing in my ears. It has been only about 15 minutes, and my ears still feel strange...like I'm wearing ear muffs. And I can't get them unplugged.

Can anyone who has experienced the gradual sensitization to various food groups tell me if they had a similar experience (or am I just going a little crazy here?)

P.S. a note on eggs: I actually despise eggs and rarely eat them....so I can't really say how I normally react to eggs.

I have noticed a sensitivity to a number of foods since being gluten-free 8 months now. I was fine with rice until recently--it seems to bring on my eczema. Soy and tapioca are other things I can no longer tolerate--those cause stomach pain. Eggs, I have had problems with for years--but not my whole life, probably the last 10 years or so. With eggs, I get the worst nausea about 4 hours after I eat them. It lasts several hours. Worse than gluten--just horrible. Needless to say, I avoid them like the plague! You may be becomming sensitive to them--since you don't eat them too much, you may have not noticed it before. Luckily, you don't like eggs, so it shouldn't be too hard for you to avoid them :)

My thought on this.

I think MAYBE we all suffer from "leaky gut syndrome" where we get food allergies(in this case) to many foods because the gut lining has become leaky and is allowing these foods into the system. Look it up online...

I have studied it a bit and this is my theory. If you don't heal the gut lining completely by avoiding these offending foods for a period of time and avoiding any processed foods, coffee, sugar, chocolate which by the way are very irratating to an already sensitive system as celiacs have. Also start taking L-glutamine and other gut healing herbs before your meals. Another HUGEly important supplement is proteolytic enzymes and hydrochloric acid to be taken with meals also. This really helps to keep allergies dampened down too because it helps digest the food better. (you are probably wondering why so many supplements but I think again with our digestive sytems malfunctioning we had best do this all our lives.....

If we have Celiac disease (my thoughts are being presented here and I'm not saying I'm 100% positive :rolleyes: ) and realize that 80% of our immune system is in our gut lining (which is why we are more sensitive to other autoimmune disorders... then the leaky gut thing on top of it......

It is not as much fun to eat such a simple diet of veggies, fish, chicken etc.....but it is really where we need to be especially if you are running into all these other allergies and #1 find a GOOD naturopath with specialty or great understanding of celiac disease and allergies. I have one and I am so thankful.

I was told that all allergies whether to grass or pollen or foods are caused by the digestive/immune system

      Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.

      My daughter has celiac disease and has had for a long time. She fell loses strictly gluten-free diet and recently got rid of all cutting boards in any gluten in her house at all. She just had a stool test and it came back showing of gigantic response to gluten in her diet. What could be going on since she doesn't eat any gluten and is very careful about any kind of hidden glue? Help!

      I think sometimes the pain described here can be a result of a sort of 'perfect storm' of contributing factors.  Recently I had an appalling bout of lower back pain, lower burning gut pain and what felt like cramps.  I then started to think about what could have caused it and I realised it was several things that had set it off: I'd been carrying heavy luggage (back strain); I had been sitting down in a car for too long and wearing a tight belt (I have pudendal nerve issues and sacroiliac issues and this exacerbates the pain), and I had bloating and burning pain in my colon caused by eating too much soy, latte and caffeine, I guess putting further pressure in the lower abdomen.  I had this same pain prior to my diagnosis and a couple of years post-diagnosis, I'd quite forgotten how unpleasant it was.

      HI @Kirbyqueen That's great news your insurance will be kicking in soon.  Sorry to see that you have been dealing with this for six months now, but I do hope you have managed to find some relief with some of the suggestions in the meantime. Perhaps come back and let us know what the doctor says. Cristiana

      I agree, and hopefully your doctor will contact you soon about the next step, which will likely be an endoscopy to confirm your diagnosis. Do you have celiac disease symptoms?
