I put this on your other post as well. Claire

Dermatitis Herpetiformis

Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is not a skin allergy. Rather, DH is a chronic, extremely itchy rash consisting of papules and vesicles. Although it is often confused with skin allergies, it is actually associated with Celiac Disease (celiac disease), a sensitivity of the intestine to gluten foods in the diet. celiac disease is also not a foold allergy, but rather a disease of the intestines.

Claire...thanks for the clarification. I thought for a moment I was giving out wrong information.

Skurtz,

Claire is right...you have to beware of some of the things you read. In many places on the web Celiac Disease can be described as an allergy to gluten but that information is false and misleading.

Hi Im still alittle confused I didnt say celiac is an allergy I said dermatitis is, I also didnt say it was from food

anyways my son who is 11 , says his rash is not itchy at all ever. I dont know if its because his sensorys are all out of whack do to the sensory disorder or what. But he insits that its never itchy. Anyone else never itchy

Dermatitis can be caused be any number of things. Dermatitis Herpetiformis is a specific type of dermatitis that is caused by gluten intolerance.

I'm sorry...were you referring to Dermatitis Herpitiformis or just dermatitis? DH is specific to gluten only and its not an allergy just as celiac is not an allergy. My earlier post was just giving an example of how info. on the internet can be worded incorrectly. Has your son been diagnosed with DH or are you not quite sure what the rash is exactly? Food allergies or many other things can cause skin rashes....maybe he should get looked at by a dermatologist.

I have DH diagnosed by skin biopsies. It is terribly itchy and pops up on me immediately after I accidentally eat some crumb of gluten. Although it is not actually an allergy, but an intolerance to gluten, I tell everyone I am Allergic to wheat because it is just easier for people to understand. I also get allergic skin reactions to random things such as strong detergents and some elastics. I don't think the semantics of the word "Allergy" is really all that important. What is important is that people with DH avoid all sources of gluten, avoid iodine, and stay away from anti-inflamatory medications which can all cause flare-ups in some people. I find that at restaurants, if I say I have a severe allergy to wheat, rye, and barley, the staff takes me a lot more seriously than if I try to explain my complicated "intolerance to gluten" which, of course, is really what I have.

Enlarged lymph nodes in neck and groin with celiac are not uncommon. They can take time to reduce even after going gluten-free. Monitoring is key.

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?
