Just Got Done With Endo.

Just got done with endo so I will keep in short since I want to fall asleep right now.

From the endo he saw that I have esophagitis, gastritis, and a small hiatal hernia. He also took 2 biopsies (sp?). I don't know where he took the biopsies from. The way he talked to me was that he didn't think I had celiac.

Are the 3 things I listed have any relation with celiac or are they completely seperate and have nothing to do with celiac? Any suggestions?

Did anyone else get sick to their stomach after the endo? I feel like I have a hangover. I guess I basically do b/c I am dehydrated from not drinking so that explains the headache and tiredness, but that doesn't explain the nautiousness (too tired to even about how to spell that one right).

Yes, I had all of those problems, too, and I do believe they're related to celiac. Two biopsies really isn't enough, it's unfortunately possible that he would have missed the damage, if there is any. Maybe he also didn't go far enough with the camera to find spots with damage.

No matter what the results are, if being gluten free makes you feel better, then you are gluten intolerant at the very least.

Well, I am feeling a little better this morning than I did last night.

Rusla - that stinks that you dont that he took enough biopsies.

He basically made his mind up before he even did the endo that I didn't have celiac b/c my blood work was negative. I think I need to find a new dr b/c he's not trying to figure out what is wrong with me he just wants to see what medicines work. Does that make sense? Instead of saying "let's try to figure out what is causing these problems" has says "let's figure out what medicines will make the problems go away". That doesn't make any sense to me and I dont want to just "mask" over my sympotms b/c I want to know what is really going on.

The only positive thing he did say though was that he wanted to do this thing where I swallow a pill then he takes an x-ray every couple of days to see where it goes. I don't think I am going to do it b/c I am sure my insurance will look at a 23 yr old with a colonoscopy, endoscopy, and endless dr visits and drop my butt! :D<_<

Gluten and dairy free from now on!!!!

Right, if he is determined that you don't have celiac before he starts, he will try hard not to find it to support his preconceived ideas. Many doctors and so-called scientists do that. And if what they find isn't what they wanted, they'll dismiss it and keep looking for what they want to find. Idiots!

Our 'health care' these days really is 'sick care', as it's far more profitable to just prescribe pills to manage the symptoms, rather than find the cause and fix it. If they'd fix everybody, they'd soon be out of business! And of course the pharmaceutical companies wouldn't make much money, either, poor people!

I am glad you're not listening to this doctor, but to your body. Finding another doctor is a good idea, because, there actually are some good ones out there! Unfortunately, finding a good doctor seems to be like finding a needle in a haystack these days.

Hi, sorry you're feeling sick :(

I wasn't sick to my stomach after my 2 endos, but yes the hangover symptoms were there. I felt better by the next day.

I also was told I had a small hiatal hernia, not sure if that is related or not, GI told me not to worry about it for now. I also was told that I had esophagitis and gastritis. He told me to elevelate the head of my bed (Stops acid from flowing into your esophogus at night), and put me on Nexium.

I figured out on my own that once I stopped all the vomiting that was resulting from my celiac and casein intolerance my throat healed up, and I stopped the Nexium. I feel that the esophagitis and gastritis were directly related to my celiac symptoms, one of which was alot of vomiting, hence the acid damage to my throat!

On the Camera Endoscopy, I had one. At the time my GI thought I had Chrons and this justified it to my insurance company and they paid for it...perhaps you can talk your doc into writing that up to get the ins to pay for it ;) . The Camera Endscopy is usually just over $1000.00 BUT for me, it ruled out Crohns, and tipped off my GI to Celiac as he saw "patterns and folds" in my intestines that were simliar to Celiac. The cool thing is that you swallow a pill, and wear a jacket/harness around for the day. You can actually go about your normal daily routine while it is filming your guts..

If you need a biospy, the camera deal is no good, but for just looking around I think it should be the preffered method. it gets great pics, and is non invasive. It also requires no anesthetic which reduces the risks to the patient!!!

I agree, and hopefully your doctor will contact you soon about the next step, which will likely be an endoscopy to confirm your diagnosis. Do you have celiac disease symptoms?

Still dealing with this rash on my legs. I've eliminated ringworm (through use of topical ointments). And I also know it's not shingles, as I've never had chickenpox before and I'm still fairly young. Through a lot of online research, I'm leaning more towards dermatitis herpetiformis, eczema, or psoriasis. I've actually got a doctor's appointment in May (finally got some insurance) and I'm going to bring it up then. I'm feeling really hopeful and excited to maybe be getting some relief soon.   Big thanks to everyone for the suggestions and positive thoughts!

You have three celiac disease specific antibody tests that are positive: Endomysial  Antibody IGA (aka, EMA), tTG-IGA, and tTG_IGG. Furthermore, your Immunoglobulin A at 55 is low, meaning you are IGA deficient. This one is not an antibody test for celaic disease per se but a measure of "total IGA" levels and if low (yours is low) it can suppress the individual antibody scores and even cause false negatives. So, yes, it definitely looks like you have celiac disease.   Do not yet begin a gluten free diet as your physician may refer you to a GI doc for an endoscopy/biopsy of the small bowel lining for confirmation of the antibody testing. This may help:

Hi, I received my labs via email yesterday and have not heard back from my doctor yet. Can anyone tell me if these results indicate I have Celiac?      Endomysial Antibody IgAPositive  Ft-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA6  H0-3 (U/mL) - Negative 0 - 3 - Weak Positive 4 - 10 - Positive >10 - Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten-sensitive enteropathy. FImmunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum55  L87-352 (mg/dL) Ft-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgG183  H0-5 (U/mL) - Negative 0 - 5 - Weak Positive 6 - 9 - Positive >9

Mine is definitely triggered by inflammation and stress! I do also have arthritis in my spine, but the pain is more in my pelvic area. Im sure i have other food intolerances or other autoimmune isues but the more I focus on it and see doctor after doctor, it just gets worse.  Best thing is get of Gluten! (I also avoid lactose). Try to limit stress and anything that causes inflammation in your body.
