Can Rashes In General Be From Celiac

My 4 year old daughter has been suffering from terrible rashes on the inside of her arms (inside of elbow), on inside wrists and back of knees. She is now complaining of stomach pain after eating inside her belly button.

Is only the DH rash associated with Celiac or could this be too? I'm going crazy. It goes through phases of getting red and raised, then is will kind of peel, then calm down and then start all over again. Never goes away completely.

I have a rash right now that my doctor thinks is related to candida. Have you looked in to that?

Hi Mia--

When my younger son was about that age, he had eczema behind both knees. It was very itchy, and sounds a lot like what you describe. The doctor prescribed a cream called Elocon, and it worked very well. Eczema does tend to reoccur.

Hope you get it figured out, and she's feeling better soon! :)

Like Mango, I get all kinds of skin rashes from all of my food intolerances- not just exclusively from gluten.

The last several months I had this raised red bumpy patch on the underside of my elbow, like where your daughter gets them, and it did the same thing. It was lots of little raised bumps in the shape of an irregular circle and then it would get dry and sort of peel and then calm down, but not completely go away. I had been eating sliced deli turkey from Wild Oats everyday for lunch for 2 years and I began to wonder if there were hidden additives in it so I decided to clear it out of my diet. I haven't had the rash since and that is the only diet change I made.

Of course every body is different, but it possibly could be an undetected allergy.

Was it related to food or just something he grew out of? I am worried about putting some of those creams on her so young. I feel like her body is reacting to something and I just wish I could figure it out.

Thanks for the posts!

In his case, it didn't seem to be connected to anything he was eating--and yes, he did grow out of it.

Hello @brian1 I'm a UK based Moderator here on the forum.  If you are British, you may find that in your region you might be able to get certain gluten-free food (usually staples like bread) on prescription.  I recommend you ring Coeliac UK for the most up-to-date advice on this. https://www.coeliac.org.uk/home/ There is some advice here for UK coeliacs which might also be of use, on how to best navigate the gluten-free diet on a budget. https://www.coeliac.org.uk/information-and-support/living-gluten-free/the-gluten-free-diet/gluten-free-diet-on-a-budget/ I am afraid I don't know anything about the benefits you mention but maybe the charity can help? Legumes can be a source of wheat contamination, but I assume that you use versions labelled "gluten-free."

You may want to look into Benfotiamine, which is the fat soluble version of B1.

Be sure all testing is completed before going gluten-free, that is, unless you are certain that gluten is the culprit and have decided not to eat it again. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
