I have celiac, but I was just wondering whether I could have DH as well, or are both diseases exclusive, and you can only have one without the other?

I have a few spots, always have had spots on and off, but they are not a problem as compared to celiac.

I was just wondering whether a person can have both diseases?

I don't have DH, so I can't answer any specific questions about that, but I do know that if you have a diagnosis of DH, then you also have Celiac Disease. But not all Celiacs have DH.

Yes, Patti is right. If you have DH, you have celiac disease, as it is caused ONLY by celiac disease. But not everybody with celiac disease has DH. If you have DH and have a positive skin biopsy, that automatically gives you a firm diagnosis of celiac disease, as it cannot be caused by anything else. The only valid treatment for DH is the gluten-free diet (some meds will help it somewhat while you wait for it to clear up, though)

yes you can have DH as well as celiac, but a lot of celiacs don't have DH (like me)

      Trying to read my lab results

      Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep...

      Constant low back, abdominal and pelvic pain!

      I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

      Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
