I received this email today:

"On Cedar Point's web site they are now listing gluten free foods and desserts! However, they are not all available yet. I spoke with Gary Jones, Food Director and Instructor at C.P. and he informed me that he got clearance to provide all of the foods but then for some reason (probably

finances) the company put the items on temporary hold. So he asked me to email him and for as many celiacs as possible to email him to let the company know how much we need C.P. to offer gluten free foods and he will compile all the emails and present them to the board with the hopes that these foods will be offered as early as July in the park. These foods include desserts, sandwiches, pizza and much more. So please spread the word and everybody email Gary Jones at gjones@cedarpoint.com Thank you for your help, "

I emailed them yesterday, and already got a reply:

Thank you for your interest in our park and our quest to offer healthier food choices. We are taking very careful and calculated steps to hopefully bring gluten free items into the park. There is great concern about being able to offer gluten free foods without having cross contamination issues. We want to be 100% certain that if we offer something that is allergy free that we can do so with the highest integrity in safety, quality and pricing. I appreciate your concerns and will pass them upward to our Directors and Vice President and they in turn will pass them upward as well.

We do have a couple of items that are gluten free that are individually packaged (brownies and cookies) and I hope in the future that we can add other items that are of high quality and great taste that come pre-packaged. Having items packaged and ready for the guest will eliminate the cross contamination concerns.

If you have any further questions, comments, concerns or suggestions, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Gary J. Jones

Dear Mr. Jones,

I understand that Cedar Point is considering adding gluten-free food options. I and my family (of 5!) have never gone to Cedar Point because we need gluten-free food. As we live in Pittsburgh (reasonably short commute to Cedar Point), we would certainly come to Cedar Point if we could find food that my children and I could eat without getting instant diarrhea!

I have been shocked at what I have learned since being diagnosed with gluten intolerance 5 months ago. I had no idea how many people have problems with gluten (most used to be told that they had Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome), or how many other problems are triggered by gluten (thyroid disease, fibromyalgia, and even rheumatoid arthritis). I hope you can look at www.celiac.com, and I really hope Cedar Point adds gluten-free foods to the line-up!

Thank you,

Sounds like you are in the UK. With blood numbers that high, I thought docs in UK would give an official diagnosis without the biopsy. You should ask about that, so you can get support faster.  I'd try to find and print out anything that supports that in your country, get another appointment and take all of it with you. Even in the US now, some docs are doing this, my 19 year old step granddaughter got an official diagnosis here in US with just blood results a few months ago.

Is soy sauce in Korea also made from wheat like it usually is in US? I'd be concerned that even if asking about gluten, they would not be aware of or think of some like that.

That's a good idea. It can at least establish the potential for developing celiac disease and can help people decided between a celiac diagnosis and NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). And it doesn't require a gluten challenge and can be had without a doctor's prescription.

I have my endoscopy on Thursday, has anyone had the procedure done with a cough? I don't have a continuous cough, but every now and then throughout the day I have sort of coughing episodes. They are a lot better than they were but I called endoscopy and they said to speak to my gp and my gp got back to me and said I need to ask endoscopy if its ok if I have it done still.  Help!

Thank you so much, everyone. For the moment my doctor just has me taking iron but hopefully we can reconnect soon. I'm going to look into genetic testing, too. Great advice all around and I appreciate it--and you can bet I'm going off the PPIs!
