I have found a very strong connection in my own research between preemies, who were given milk based formulas or who were given breastmilk and mom was not CF/gluten-free, and the baby developing NEC, and later being diagnosed w/ celiac.
One of my triplets was given a milk based formula against my adament requests. He developed NEC (necrotizing enterocolitis) and lost 70%+ of his small intestines, his ileocecal valve and part of his colon from the NEC. He has had major consequences from having short gut, but wasn't diagnosed w/ celiac disease until he was 6 yrs old.
