I had my biopsy yesterday, they took 8 samples which i will have the results of by friday and also gave me an on the spot report that said everything looked normal. Can you normally see the villi damage with the camera? Or only through a microscope?

I was told by my son's GI 2 weeks ago that the damage can only be seen by microscope. She took 8 samples from my son and he was diagnosed with Celiac last week. She did say that some hospitals have cameras that magnify the area and that some damage can be seen that way. She said that they don't have them at our hospital b/c they are very expensive and they still send off the samples for examination anyway.

A biopsy is really the way to evaluate the sample...however, sometimes in Celiac, there will be noticeable changes in the intestines that are able to be seen just upon an endoscopy, ie. scalloping, mosaic pattern. You can't diagnosis celiac disease based on those changes alone, however.

Yes, it could be. Anti histamines help with the symptoms but I don't really like to take them long term.

There is a product call Quinoa Flakes that might be a good substitute for oats.

How much gluten daily were you eating before your blood panel was taken? Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:

It's certainly possible, but since it just turned spring it could also be something that is blooming now that you are allergic to. Perhaps new plants around the new houses?
