Oregon Ice Cream Co. Brands Mostly Gluten Free

I recently called Oregon Ice Cream Company to check on the gluten free status of their ice cream.

Cascade Glacier is sold commercially in three gallon tubs. My daughters camp uses it as does the ice cream parlor we visited recently. The label on the tub warned that it was manufactured in a plant that also uses gluten. Standard disclaimer.

The company receptionist transferred me to a number and I left a message. They called back within ten minutes with a warm and helpful response. If only all of the companies could be so nice and pleasant to deal with.

Basically they said the following.

The products are gluten free unless obvious flavor type (cookie dough, cookies and cream etc.) And they take special care to batch any ice cream manufacturing that has potential allergens to be produced at the same time. Everything with nuts done at one time. Things with gluten another. They also said that they are careful to clean the lines between any runs of different flavors. He could not, of course, say there is no chance of cross-contamination but who can legally or morally ever say that. But he did know what I was asking and explained in detail the company methods for handling it in much more detail than I report here. So I felt good about telling my daughter she could have the ice cream at camp, phew, it is great to have one less thing to worry about.

Wanted to share with everyone. I don't know how regional some of their brands are. But their website lists the following brands:

Cascade Glacier

Julie's Organic

Denali

Oregon's Dutch Girl

Northwest Creamery

Private Label From website "The list of national brands and store chains that have us manufacturing their ice cream: Dryers/Edy's, Food Service of America, Albertson's, Jamba Juice & Soy Delicious. "

Remember that they may just manufacture Alberton's and Dryers in the local area and not throughout the country. Reminds me Albertson's gluten free list does not list ice cream at all, wonder why!

I have my endoscopy on Thursday, has anyone had the procedure done with a cough? I don't have a continuous cough, but every now and then throughout the day I have sort of coughing episodes. They are a lot better than they were but I called endoscopy and they said to speak to my gp and my gp got back to me and said I need to ask endoscopy if its ok if I have it done still.  Help!

Thank you so much, everyone. For the moment my doctor just has me taking iron but hopefully we can reconnect soon. I'm going to look into genetic testing, too. Great advice all around and I appreciate it--and you can bet I'm going off the PPIs!

I walk fast for fitness, 4 to 6 km per day. I am also 74 years old. Apart from the Celiac challenge, my lifestyle is healthy. I had a sciatiac nerve pinching under my one foot, with inflamation in my whole shin. It was almost cured, when the other shin started paining and burning. I do stretches, use a natural cooling gel and rest my feet. Can Celiac cause muscle pains/inflamation, or is it just over-excercising?

I recently started shopping at a nearby Trader Joe's store. I was surprised at the number and variety of (healthy) gluten-free options sold there. I must admit their low prices are also quite tempting. However, I am curious as to the labeling on all their packages. While none of their products are certified as gluten-free, many are identified as 'GLUTEN FREE' on the packaging. Are these items safe for celiacs? Has anyone tried Trader Joe's products and have there been any adverse reactions?

HI, my doctor suggested one week of consuming gluten before blood tests.  I have been gluten free for 3 years.  Has anyone been through this and will I get exact results after one week of consuming gluten?  I don't even know if I can do this, if I get sick I am not sure if I can continue, any suggestions??  Thanks in advance.
