Blood Test For Mother

My mother recently had the celiac panel of blood tests run including the gene test. She has not had symptoms. Mainly we were checking to see if she had one of the genes. She did (DQ2). She told me that neither her insurance nor medicare will cover the cost of the test . I have not seen the bill. Does anyone out there on medicare know whether this is true?

Hi Tom, I know that the panel should be covered by most insurance companies, the gene test, no. If you have any problems with the blood work portion, I would contact the drs. office that ordered it and have them send the test in with a copy of some records, medicare or b/c usually wants something like that. An insurance advocate may be able to help if no help is available at the dr. office. Contact a local Senior Aging Council, they might have a resource. Sometimes refusals can go back and forth three times to peer review and the third time, they pay. Good luck.

I am not sure (because I am in Canada), however, if you post this in Pre-Diagnosis you might get a better response (not that Robbin's response isn't great! I just meant 'more' of one). I don't think that many people check this thread unless they have a loved one with it.
