Rice Dream Anybody have a commercial milk substitute that's OK?

Just wondering. Among many other things, I can't have dairy, soy or almonds. Has anybody asked Rice Dream WHY they can't remove the barley enzyme thing? I know I can make my own milks out of cashews or other nuts, but I sure would like to have something I could buy quickly, commercially. I've checked many labels and they all seem to have something I can't have. I probably could drink Rice Dream if it wasn't for their stubbornness about gluten, since I think rice is OK for me on occasion. I also realize I could just make rice milk myself. But I just wondered if there was something commercial and easy. I cook from scratch ALOT and would appreciate a few conveniences, at least.
I'm going to eliminate many foods and would like a milk to make an occasional cup of cocoa or something, when I'm going crazy.
And, yes, I use coconut milk all the time. It's just a little heavy sometimes.

We use Pacific Rice all natural, non dairy beverage. Its Lactose Free, Cholesterol Free and Gluten Free. The ingredients for the low fat, vanilla are: filtered water, brown rice, expeller pressed canola oil, natural vanilla flavor with other natural flavors, tricalcium phosphate, sea salt, guar gum, xantham gum, carrageenan, carob bean gum, vit A palmitate, vit D2. Our whole family thinks it great, even our 18 year old son that has to eat gluten free!

Pacific makes a rice milk that is gluten free. You should be able to find it at any health food store. My grocery store has even started to stock it.

I've started using 365 Vanilla Rice milk, and I think it tastes great. You can get it at Whole Foods, if you have one of those nearby.

Thanks so much! I thought I had checked every carton at the HF store for gluten free. Didn't remember that one stating it was gluten-free. Unfortunately we don't have a Whole Foods in our entire state!
Still wondering about the Rice Dream ice cream. Anybody ever called them and asked if it's the same as the milk and not gluten free?

The last time I checked, I couldn't find any reason on the label not to eat Rice Dream VAnilla "ice cream".
It's been a couple of months ago, but when we've eaten it several times recently it didn't seem to bother me any. I would still carefully check the label against the celiac safe/forbidden lists, because ingredients are always changing.

Oh gosh, wait a minute! I saw on that link that cookies n' dream was on their gluten-free list, if I was looking at that right. Then I thought, well, I'd love to have some of that because I never even looked at the label of that in the store, figuring it HAD to have gluten. Then I clicked on the cookies n' dream to see ingredietns and the "cookies" in there have wheat flour...what the heck?

Most flavors of Rice Dream (frozen) are okay. The Cookies n Dream is NOT - don't know why it's on their website as gluten-free. I've eaten all the ones that look okay from ingredients and the website and been fine.

The reason they add barley malt is not because it's an enzyme, but because it improves the flavor. Plain rice milk can be pretty bland. I use Nature's Place brand, which is used by more than one supermarket chain in the Northeast as their store brand. Have you tried looking in the health food section of all the supermarkets in your area?

I called the Rice Dream people today and pointed out the inconsistency on their website. Amazingly, they seemed to be totally unaware of it until my call.
They did promise to fix it. They said that they would probably not be putting GLUTEN FREE on any of their stuff because of the liabilities involved. Their credibility seems a little wobbly to me. But I did eat some vanilla Rice Dream Ice Cream today for the first time. So far, so good. I wouldn't say it was great, but I haven't had ice cream for about a year, so I thought I'd try it.
My question is.... if the barley enzyme is used to make the Rice Dream MILK substitute sweeter, how do they achieve that same sweetness in the ice cream WITHOUT using the barley enzyme????? Their vanilla ice cream carton lists no sweeteners in the ingredients.
I sure hope I haven't ruined 6 months worth of gluten free work by eating that stuff. It wasn't worth it, if I did.
We sure do end up having to put a lot of trust in product labels, company representatives, waiters and chefs, don't we?! It's a minefield out here.

Most of the rice dream frozen ice creams are safe. Of course there may be cc issues. I've had them with no ill effects but not for awhile.
