Chatty Sillies tonight!

Fan-Parking-Tastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (excellent Janet)

I had discussed meow before.....refers to a term used for a woman's body part.......another word for kitty.........starts with a *P*

Bobblehead..............well..........

First let's look at another middle school term..........gobble-gobble..........verb......

If you are performing this activity.......you could be considered a bobblehead..............don't think there's another word used to describe this person ........ . . . . . ..

........oh, I know...........MONICA LEWINSKY!!!!!

Lisa!! This whole passage cracked me up, very knaughty chidlins......um gobble gobble? Well that's an interesting way to put it

Way to go on the weight loss!!! Woo hoo!

Good luck with your first gluten-free, df, sugar free Thanksgiving. You can still do a LOT even with those restrictions, trust me on that, speaking from personal experience.

Susie, we're gonna have Pumpkin Pie Cake . . . pumpking pie on the bottom (no crust) and a struessaly type topping made wif a cake mix (NOT made into cake/cakebatter). I had it last week at school (not gluten free) and thought it should be able to convert nicely wif a Pamela's cake mix instead of a regular cake mix.

This sounds very interesting, let us know how it turns out!

W/ his big chief ballcock?

HEE HEE, Tom!!!!!!

Next year, I"m shipping myself off to a Silly's house which will serve yummy g f food........Jules, I *think* Weez and I can drive to Colorado in a day or so?

[Ptaum, you are MUCH closer but I'm not hearing about anything delish or smelling anything coming from yer oven up there]

Come on over Sooze!!

Yeah, Tom haven't heard about anything cooking at yer place. What you doing for Thanksgiving? Same for Amanda and Jess and Judy, Bev, everyone.... I want to hear!

Thanksgiving bigger than Christmas??? Not sure about that . . . but I know I enjoy it more. Usually (not this year) get to see a lot of family without the pressure of getting all the "right" gifts.

I have to agree, not necessarily bigger than Christmas but maybe just as big??? I LOVE Thanksgiving, me favorite holiday cooking wise too, LOVE the food!!!! Christmas there is so much more pressure and extra work with the decorating and the gifts, like Janet said.

The girls will be gone to their beau's parents, but I get them for Christmas. I think I'll stuff the turkey with popcorn and sit back and watch.

Jules, it's just us!

Christmas..........sooooooooo much pressure. but - curious......I always find myself working madly on Christmas Eve, finishing things, painting things, wrapping, making marshmallows/candles/cookies - whatever. And I always feel enormous pressure, and in the past have often stayed up until 3 a.m. or summat to get it all finished. HEINOUSLY RIDICULOUS!

I thought there was too much pressure and I couldn't stand it so - a couple of years I was quite organized, and didn't engage in my Christmas Eve tradition - - candles, carols and sacred hymns, reflecting on things, making things for loved ones, in one of the most sacred nights/times of the year - it is hard to explain the magic of that, being alone in the wonder of it.......now I truly love it and make SURE I spend a portion of it home alone and doing this!

Your Christmas Eve traditions sound magical

And speaking of your marshmallows, I haven't heard you talk about making them in a while now. How DO you make them??

I am off to bed, have a lot of things on my "to do" list for tomorrow.

My sis in law is doing thanksgiving. I might bring my own gravy, since they all prefer the flour thickened type, but she swears she's doing gluten free cornbread stuffing. They're pretty good about reading labels and not poisoning me. Last year I got pumpkin custard in my own personal custard cup.

But they're doing it Friday (less stress, have Thursday to prepare) so I'm going to try the overnight, low temp turkey that someone else posted somewhere. I figure if it's good, I'll bring some on Friday, and if it's just OK, I can still freeze the meat for later meals.

Aaaaaagh how many posts will I have to split THIS into????

[Was the emotiquota put back to 20?? ]

Yes! Something else I wanted to explore. Ptaoughmghmn, where is your quaalude scar? Is it in the shape of a quaalude, or is it named this due to it being created whilst you were taking quaaludes??

Hmmm not simply whilst, but rather 'entirely due to'.

I wish it were a fascinating story & maybe it's time I made one up. The truth is no more than mildly amusing.

Imagine, if you will, some apartment party at some apt complex -whole complex in on the party - faintly remembered as west of campus, populated by many intoxicated young adults, including more than a few balance-deprived through pharmaceuticals.

I know for a PHACT there were these pebbled concrete garbage can holders all about, at a good height for handy butt-leanin' - ya know, not really sitting but close.

In my balance-impaired state, I leaned on several!

Guess I tried to lean on one ONE too many times. Heehee I can picture perfectly seeing what I thought was the base of one with downturned eye. So I leaned back.

Alas . ...lmao . ...'tweren't a garbage can holder at all!!!! In a flash I'm fully ass-in, legs & arms out, of a recently used, otherwise empty keg tub, soaking in ice & icewater, w/ blood flowing from a forearm cut by the impact on a NOT sharp at all tub edge!!!!!

And I laughed. And bled. And stayed. Ahhhhh college :D:)

Orrrrrrrrrrrr .. . .backstage at a Stones show, I axed Keef for a tums . .. . .who knew?????

And who knew Charlie Watts would let me play a cymbal or that they could be that sharp?????

Skanky Cougar!!! ....so I could safely date a 25 yr old?!?!

Jools puhLEEZ you look ARE too young to be all cougary!!

Don'tcha need to be over 40 1st?

Thanksgiving prep is in full swing for me. My house smells so GOOD!!! I made the cranberry compote and baked the corn bread for the dressing last night and just baked the gingerbread cakes for the trifle.

<homer'sdroolysound> olfactory paradise!!!

Why aren't at least SOME perfumes like this? -_-

Canberry  - I'm not a big fan of either but prefer the made-from-scratch type. Warm.

(Not that *I've* ever made it!)

That sounds so good--I miss cheesecake :( Dairy hates me

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh cheeeeeeeeeeeesecake!!

Dairy doesn't *hate* me so much, so I'd probably indulge in a gluten-free one given the chance.

(Uh-oh .. ..now I'm wondering where to get some. There ARE good gluten-free bakeries in the bay area - just not in MY area of the bay. And no .....I won't be making one)

Leesuh!! Wow 30lbs!!

Next year, I"m shipping myself off to a Silly's house which will serve yummy g f food........Jules, I *think* Weez and I can drive to Colorado in a day or so?

Much closer to Joolz' splendiferous everything-free kitchen?? I don't think so .. .. ..which box has the maps .. . .oh . ...no ....you meant something else. Heehee

 haven't you? haven't I babbled on at super speed on the fone?

<longLonnnnnnnnngggggChuckle>

[memory fading in] oh yeahhhh ^_^

I think one time I said "do I get a turn to talk too?"

And another time "it's not really a conversation w/out both ppl talking, is it" ?

gah lol now

It is SO wonderful that Thanksgiving is such a big holiday for you Yanks. ... :) .. .bigger than Christmas, isn't it?

Well it's big and much-enjoyed but .. ..c'mon psillies .. ..it ain't NEAR as big as CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!

Are Thxgvg decorations utterly ubiquitous for ....a whole month before?????

Put me down for frosted brown sugar cinnamon poptarts!!! (And any berry one in second)

Knobgobbler is a common term isn't it? Well it should be, w/ that trans-syllabic intra-word rhyming.

  I finally see a transgendered Samantha Hill!!!!!

Come on over Sooze!!

Yeah, Tom haven't heard about anything cooking at yer place. What you doing for Thanksgiving?

:puzzled&confuzzledface: .. . . .now which Julie was I emailing with about what time & which gate for my flight?? Crap .. .. .that wasn't you??

OK, well my deal starts w/ the fact that I never did ANY Thxgvg cooking beFORE celiac anyway. Aren't there usually some sort of televised sports that day?

I don't know WHAT I'm doing!! Should've started thinking about this awhile ago. :(

I started - just today  - to consider going to see Nic&Nat outside Reno since they'll be off school, but if I can work this wkend it'd be shortsighted to not rack up as many hrs as I can.

Since 1st dating Teresa, their mom, in ~91 I've usually gone to HER mom's SJ home. But they all moved to NV a few yrs ago & betw the housebound yrs & Phx .....waaaaaaaa ....I have nowhere!!!

(That'll be different next yr, by jove!!)

Morning, Sillies!

OMG. Samantha Hill. :lol::lol:

Just gets better and better. Time to put my Samatar back up.

Didn't we suspect, for a time, homosexual tendencies in our Manhead? Why was that? Due to his subtle femininity?...... ..

No! It was the homosexual dating service from which he many have come!!

Still don't know which business in that building threw him out. Must get on this... . .

I have to agree, not necessarily bigger than Christmas but maybe just as big??? I LOVE Thanksgiving, me favorite holiday cooking wise too, LOVE the food!!!! Christmas there is so much more pressure and extra work with the decorating and the gifts, like Janet said.

I guess, upon reflection, I meant to ask, "JUST as big?", as up here there is no comparison - - Thanksgiving fades into a small blip on the national screen when compared to Christmas. The States plays up Thanksgiving much more . . .....it seems so nice.. . .. .. :) Families and food, thankfulness . . . ......

But we're happy....we get a three-day weekend. . . . . . .

Last year I got pumpkin custard in my own personal custard cup.

Jess! This sounds suspiciously like Thanksgiving Canuck Lumberjack Tarts....catching on!!

And I laughed. And bled. And stayed. Ahhhhh college

OMG! :lol::lol:

Ptaoughmghmn....you are mistaken - - this is every bit as entertaining as an apocryphal Rolling Stones tale. . .. . .

Oooh, an open fire sounds lovely, I quite fancy that meself.

And a chimney sweep!!! So very Mary Poppins!!!!!

 sending the Twa up the chimney

....but a week to get the part in to fix yer boiler Nik?? HEINOUS. Are you guys going to be warm enough?!?!?!

..also our 'stuffing' tends to be fairly simple (DEFINITELY simple compared to Richard's Dingo Keen-Wah concoction!)

We tend to have Sage and Onion (just breadcrumbs, sage, onion, bound together with an egg) or sausagemeat stuffing :P

King Richard's Dingo Quinoa stuffing/dressing was quite laboUr intensive, a lot of our stuffings/dressings are simple like what you describe (a form of bread cubed, onion, celery, some seasonings like sage, and chicken broth...maybe an egg, sometimes diced apples and sausage, etc.) but some you can go all out on like with wild rice and such.

OK, who posted that link to 'interpreting your dreams' ??? (can't go back - only forward today  )

I had a dream last night that I joined a hippy commune.........

Bevel was me best mate there :lol:

Veeeeeery interesting dream Nik, twas me (not to be confused with Twa me) who posted the dream dictionary:

See the alphabet there close to the top? You can look up the objects that were in your dream and they define what it might symbolize. i.e. Sooze's "perfume" or "purse", or your and Bev's "skirts"

Hi,   Not saying Thiamine (B1) couldn't be an issue as well, but Mg was definitely the cause of my problems. It's the only thing that worked. I supplemented with B vitamins, but that didn't change anything, in fact they made me sick. Mg stopped all my muscle pain (HCTZ) within a few months and fixed all the intestinal problems HCTZ caused as well. Mom has an allergy to some sulfa drugs (IgG Celiac too), but I don't think I've ever taken them. Mg boosted my energy as well. It solved a lot of problems. I take 1000mg MgO a day with no problems. I boost absorption with Vitamin D. Some people can't take MgO,  like mom, she takes Mg Glycinate. It's one of those things that someone has try and find the right form for themselves. Everyone's different. Mg deficiency can cause anxiety and is a treatment for it. A pharmacist gave me a list of drugs years ago that cause Mg deficiency: PPIs, H2 bockers, HCTZ, some beta blockers (metoprolol which I've taken -- horrible side effects), some anti-anxiety meds too were on it. I posted because I saw he was an IgG celiac. He's the first one I've seen in 20 years, other than my family. We're rare. All the celiacs I've met are IgA. Finding healthcare is a nightmare. Just trying to help. B

It sounds like you've been through a lot with your son's health journey, and it's understandable that you're seeking answers and solutions. Given the complexity of his symptoms and medical history, it might be beneficial to explore a few avenues: Encourage your son to keep a detailed journal of his symptoms, including when they occur, their severity, any triggers or patterns, and how they impact his daily life. This information can be valuable during medical consultations and may help identify correlations or trends. Consider seeking opinions from specialized medical centers or academic hospitals that have multidisciplinary teams specializing in gastrointestinal disorders, especially those related to Celiac disease and Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EOE). These centers often have experts who deal with complex cases and can offer a comprehensive evaluation. Since you've already explored alternative medicine with a nutrition response doctor and a gut detox diet, you may want to consider consulting a functional medicine practitioner. They take a holistic approach to health, looking at underlying causes and imbalances that may contribute to symptoms. Given his low vitamin D levels and other nutritional markers, a thorough nutritional assessment by a registered dietitian or nutritionist specializing in gastrointestinal health could provide insights into any deficiencies or dietary adjustments that might help alleviate symptoms. In addition to routine tests, consider asking about more specialized tests that may not be part of standard screenings. These could include comprehensive stool analyses, food intolerance testing, allergy panels, or advanced imaging studies to assess gut health.

Hello, I am a 45 year old mom, who was diagnosed at 29 with Celiac. My now 14 year old son was diagnosed just before his 4th birthday. Needless to say, we are old pros with the diet. He was experiencing some issues, overall health took a major plummet a year ago, and through a bit of work, was diagnosed with EOE. Tried diet alone, but his follow up endoscopy didn't show the improvements his DR. wanted to see, so I tried the medication. (Steroid). He became extremely backed up, and they had him taking Miralax daily. His health plummeted. He is a straight A honor's 8th grader who plays club soccer very competitively. His health continued to decline and at 13 had a colonoscopy and another upper gi. (He was still compacted even with the prep). I finally pulled him off all meds and mira lax, after reading much negative literature online, and put him on a gut detox diet and took him to a nutrition response dr. Finally things have improved. However...over a year later and he is having relapse stomach pain, debilitating stomach pain. Missing a day of school a week, to three this week. This is where we downward spiral with him. He says it doesn't feel the same as when he has gotten backed up before. He is eating prunes, taking his supplements, drinking water...all of the things. Yet, he is feeling horrible. Pain is abdomen, headache, lethargy, diarrhea . He is on a strict gluten dairy, egg free diet. He has adapted well in regards to diet. But I feel like we are missing something here. He is too active, too outgoing to be feeling sick all of the time. His Bilirubin is constantly high. His white blood count always runs slightly low. His vitamin D was very low last time he ran tests, (last month) when he was sick for a week. His celiac markers show negative, so it isn't that. His last endoscopy showed no Eosinaphils in his esophagus.  I have taken him to multiple Ped. Gastro specialists. They run tests, and we get zero answers. I meticulously go through labs, hoping to make some sense and maybe catch something. Any thoughts or ideas would greatly be appreciated.
    • trents
But if you have been off of wheat for a period of weeks/months leading up to the testing it will likely turn out to be negative for celiac disease, even if you actually have celiac disease. Given your symptoms when consuming gluten, we certainly understand your reluctance to undergo  the "gluten challenge" before testing but you need to understand that the testing may be a waste of time if you don't. What are you going to do if it is negative for celiac disease? Are you going to go back to merrily eating wheat/barley/rye products while living in pain and destroying your health? You will be in a conundrum. Do I or do I not? And you will likely have a difficult time being consistent with your diet. Celiac disease causes inflammation to the small bowel villous lining when gluten containing grains are consumed. This inflammation produces certain antibodies that can be detected in the blood after they reach a certain level, which takes weeks or months after the onset of the disease. If gluten is stopped or drastically reduced, the inflammation begins to decrease and so do the antibodies. Before long, their low levels are not detectable by testing and the antibody blood tests done for diagnosing celiac disease will be negative. Over time, this inflammation wears down the billions of microscopic, finger-like projections that make up the lining and form the nutrient absorbing layer of the small bowel where all the nutrition in our food is absorbed. As the villi bet worn down, vitamin and mineral deficiencies typically develop because absorption is compromised. An endoscopy with biopsy of the small bowel lining to microscopically examine this damage is usually the second stage of celiac disease diagnosis. However, when people cut out gluten or cut back on it significantly ahead of time before the biopsy is done, the villous lining has already experienced some healing and the microscopic examination may be negative or inconclusive. I'm not trying to tell you what to do I just want you to understand what the consequences of going gluten free ahead of testing are as far as test results go so that you will either not waste your time in having the tests done or will be prepared for negative test results and the impact that will have on your dietary decisions. And, who are these "consultants" you keep talking about and what are their qualifications? You are in the unenviable position that many who joint this forum have found themselves in. Namely, having begun a gluten free diet before getting a proper diagnosis but unwilling to enter into the gluten challenge for valid testing because of the severity of the symptoms it would cause them.

Thank you very much for your reply. I hadn't heard of celiac disease but began to notice a pattern of pain. I've been on the floor more than once with agonising pain but this was always put down to another abdominal problem consequently I've been on a roundabout of backwards and forwards with another consultant for many years. I originally questioned this diagnosis but was assured it was the reason for my pain. Many years later the consultant gave up and I had a new GP. I started to cut out certain food types ,reading packets then really started to cut out wheat and went lactose free. After a month I reintroduced these in one meal and ended screaming in agony the tearing and bloating pain. With this info and a swollen lymph node in my neck I went back to the GP.  I have a referral now . I have also found out that acidic food is causing the terrible pain . My thoughts are this is irritating any ulcers. I'm hoping that after a decade the outlook isn't all bad. My blood test came back with a high marker but I didn't catch what it was. My GP and I have agreed that I won't go back on wheat just for the test due to the pain , my swollen lymph node and blood test results.  Trying to remain calm for the referral and perhaps needed to be more forceful all those years ago but I'm not assertive and consultants can be overwhelming. Many thanks for your reply . Wishing you all the best.
