My son was prescribed amoxicillin for strep throat today. I filled the prescription at Walgreens, who said they checked with the manufacturer and that their generic amoxicillin chewables, 400mg (manufactured by Ranbaxy) is gluten free.
Really annoyingly, the ped had checked with a GI to find a gluten free antibiotic, and the GI said some may contain a small amount but it's important to treat so just take it anyway. Why not just find a freaking medicine that won't make my son sick and treat with that, then?
I find it hard to trust them without seeing an ingredient list or talking to the manufacturer. Anyone have any infomation on this drug? Or know how I could find out? It's after business hours now and I want to get him started on the medicine tonight if at all possible.

I don't know Alex, but sometimes you have to trust. For strep, sometimes you have to choose and trust the information that you are given is correct. Don't mess with strep, it can have some very bad effects is not handled quickly.
