Waking Up With "d" For 9 Months Now

Sorry to ask another poop question. But, I wondered if it was normal to wake up with "D". I never have it during the day, just first thing in the morning. No cramping either, just "D". I get every kind, so I won't even go there ... :P

I've been gluten-free since September last year. And 95% corn, dairy, soy and egg.

I'm not eating anything special right before bed either. Although because of my hypoglycemia I can not eat fruits until afternoon.

I have been drinking kefir for about a year now in order to get some probiotics in me, but gave it up finally two weeks ago. All this time I thought it was the kefir ...

My doctor told me that mine was probably from celiac since I have obviously been sick a very long time (17 + years - possible lifetime ? ). And I am not digesting food properly.

She also said that my hypoglycemia was from celiac since I can not absorb nutrients.

I am being referred to a research clinic to confirm celiac, so she said we will know more then.

On the upside, this may mean I can go ahead and eat ice cream ... :rolleyes:

I can certainly relate. I get D often first thing in the morning, then a half hour later, then an hour later.

After that, I'm fine. No cramps, no aweful glutened feeling, just very loose bowels.

I had D off and on for most of my adult life (I'm 60 now) but have been gluten-free only since July this year. I just assumed it's going to take time, and maybe I'll never be completely "normal" - although I have days when I don't have D, usually its only for that one day or maybe two or three in a row. BUT, those brief normal days give me hope.

(I just loved kefir - but had to give it up when going dairy free - darn!) I never could take probiotics and only recently discovered the problem was that they contained one of my other food sensitivities - even dairy-free had corn products or soy. I finally found one that is safe for me and can now take them without have D immediately after. Corn can be a very difficult thing to avoid.

Can you tell me what probiotics you are taking ?

I read where miso, saeurkraut, and some other fermented foods have healthy bacteria too. I actually love the taste of the chick pea miso I picked up at my health food store. It is gluten-free, SF, CF, EG, and DF.

I would have thought my "D" would have cleared up too, but my doc has a good point.

I've been using my kefir grains in canned coconut milk, I get the kind without any preservatives. It tastes pretty good!

Can you tell me what probiotics you are taking ?

FloraSmart by Renew Life. It's enteracoated tablets that don't dissolve until they are past the stomach. I had to order them on-line because neither Whole Foods or Wild Oats carries this, although they carry other Renew Life products.

I tried saurkraut and although I like it cooked, it was difficult to eat the stuff that was minimally heated and still really crunchy. I may look for chickpea miso. thanks.

Nancy - what are kefir "grains" ???

Thanks for probiotic name. I bought krissspkraut (sp) at my local grocery store. It was in the produce section, in a bag and being kept cold.

I saw a recipe for making your own kraut too. If you google "miso kefir sauerkraut" all together you'll get a lot of info on fermented foods.

I have the same problem as you all do. I thought that it was really abnormal, so it's nice to know I'm not alone. From what I''ve read, probiotics should help out a great deal. Good luck everyone.

I did have this and I had eliminated corn, soy, and gluten but when I went on the paleo diet it goes away. I also had kind of a sore stomach ache the next morning. It has helped alot. I know its the diet since when I have corn or dairy it brings it back again. Im not sure which one it is.

Thanks for all of your replies. Sorry for the subject though ....

I was using kefir as a probiotic, so it can't be that. And it is still happening without the kefir, so it wasn't dairy.

I was hoping this was just a normal digestive issue for celiacs who's villi are flat, since I am not cramping. I have gastroparesis too, so maybe my body just doesn't process my foods until I am asleep ... Food definitely sits in my stomach and colon until then ...

Do any of you do this without any cramping ? Maybe this is my new norm ??? Perhaps this is an old lady thing :o

I am already off gluten, dairy, soy, corn and eggs, but I may have to start eliminating foods again to see if it makes a difference. BUMMER !!!

When you say you are corn free? Do you take precautions to soaps, lotions, laundry detergent, medicines or vitamins, paper products, and washing off with baking soda and soaking of all your fresh fruits and veggies? Also do you use frozen veggies? What meats do you eat? So far the only meats I can tolerate is ground beef, foster farms chicken, and empire kosher chicken. So many products have corn and its not listed.

My biggest help is the avoiding corn section on the delphi forums, I thought I was corn free and found out I wasn't.

Dont buy into the old lady thing, its not normal to have diarrhea all the time. There has to be something bothering you. Gl in your searching. Have you tried eliminating legumes?

Edited to add - I'm sorry but, I don't have a brain anymore .... I am probably getting glutenned from the crackers or chips or something else I have been eating ...

I know I was glutenned last week since I was up till 6 am and then felt a little depressed for a few days.

Thanks for replying ... I feel like such an idiot ... Can I blame this on gluten too ? :blink:

January 18, 2007 - no longer have "D". Finally eliminated Kettle baked potato chips and Back to Nature rice crackers. I'm betting it was the chips ...

He has now updated the paragraph and it is clear that the DGP-IGA does serve the purpose of circumventing the false negatives that IGA deficiencies can generate in the tTG-IGA antibody test.

      Has anyone experimenced enlarged lymph nodes with celiac? Both in the neck and groin area. Imaging of both areas have said that lymph nodes are reactive in nature. However, they have been present for months and just wondering how long this may take to go down. Been gluten-free for about two months. Blood counts are normal.

      Hmm interesting I just assumed that any “IGA” tests including the DPG iga would be negative in a person who is IGA deficient but maybe that is not the case for the DPG test.

      If you were just diagnosed I can say that if you go 100% gluten-free should should see dramatic improvement of your symptoms over the next few months, but the hard part is to stay gluten-free. This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
