I have never heard that about the padding on the feet. I couldn't figure out why the bottoms of my feet hurt so much lately. Where did you hear that and why does it happen? Anyone know?

It happens to me too. I can't stand still because of it. I'm ok if I sway back and forth, but standing still causes me pain. My heals are often very sore even when I put then on a pillow. Just to rest them on something is very painful. The good news is that my pain is not half as bad since going gluten free and having my leg numbness and tingling disappear!!

That's interesting about the feet. I've always found that within minutes of walking my feet are getting sore already. It usually only takes an hour before I'm in real pain. I guess maybe that's why. I always just thought I never had good shoes. Lately though, I've been buying really good shoes and I still have this problem.

While I was looking into this thing called Celiac Disease that I was told I have----a while ago. ,
it showed up quite often as symptoms. I do recall it in several of the book that I purchased.
If there is a need for the exact reference, I will try to do that tomorrow.
I would assume that it could be googled.

No way! The first sign that I had that something was wrong with me was pain in my feet and the feeling that I had no padding. It's gone now (almost 11 years after eliminating wheat and being extremely gluten "light"), but I still remember that awful feeling. I had to wear aqua socks in the shower for a long time because I couldn't stand barefoot.

Diagnosed with Minimal Change Nephrotic Syndrome in 2003. Discovered that going completely gluten-free put me in remission.

I guess I just need botox for my buttock.
 Good one.
I'd like to know WHY these two symptoms occur...I'm really curious. If anyone out there is savvy, lay it on us. Tx j

Nope that's not me at all. I have 4 kids and the first thing to always go flat is my stomach. My butt, hips and theighs on the other hand are reletively LARGE LOL!!
I'm the same way. I never had a flat butt and never will. People always tell me I never need to lose weight because my stomach is pretty flat, but what about my big butt? I'm not overweight, but I would like to lose a couple of pounds in the thigh/butt area.

I was reading in Dangerous Grains last night and it talked about a typical shape of the face too. Big forhead and narrow chin. Triangle shaped face.
My stomach is on the bigger/swollen side, but I have a round rear end and never had the foot padding thingy I don't think.
My grandma (who had LOTS and LOTS of stomach problems during her life and eventually died from them) kinda looked like that though. BIG stomach, no butt.
One Celiac gene and one gluten intolerance gene (HLA-DQ 2,1).
Grain free, casein free, soy/legume free + a bunch of allergies I have had since I was a child (stone fruits, nuts..carrots)
Following the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, but no nuts, legumes or casein.

Jerry:
This is long ago learned information for me, I believe this is correct, but during periods of malabsorption, the body is starving and going after what ever it can to feed itself. I goes after the fat and muscle.
Hence, SOME of us have very thin extremities, Biafra Belly (dated reference - kids in Africa who are starving and have those big bellies) and flat A$$.
Lisa
PS. What a waste to wait 11 years to get the padding back and a good looking butt back, at 63, who will care

It sounds like i have the EXACT same body shape as you do. I'm kind of discouraged with the arms actually...mine are stick thin and I have to keep them covered Clothes make me feel so self conscious...the belly looks even bigger because of the arms!
I lift weights but I still can't seem to get ANY muscle mass back in my arms...weight training seems to lift the butt (haha), but my arms won't budge. Anyone else have this problem? How do I get some muscle or some fat back into my arms?

Due to malabsorption my hubby's body fed off of muscles and fat and he has little or no padding on body but has a waistline out of proportion with hips (no hip or butt). The hardest item to buy for him is underwear. In order to get the waistband not to dig in, he has to go to the size large, but then the butt and legs are too big. This has been an ongoing problem as most manufacturers Hanes, etc. the waistbands are tight; I don't know how even non celiac men can tolerate the waistband.
Husband has Celiac Disease and
Husband misdiagnosed for 27 yrs -
The misdiagnosis was: IBS or colitis
Mis-diagnosed from 1977 to 2003 by various gastros including one of the largest,
most prestigious medical groups in northern NJ which constantly advertises themselves as
being the "best." This GI told him it was "all in his head."
Serious Depressive state ensued
Finally Diagnosed with celiac disease in 2003
Other food sensitivities: almost all fruits, vegetables, spices, eggs, nuts, yeast, fried foods, roughage, soy.
Needs to gain back at least 25 lbs. of the 40 lbs pounds he lost - lost a great amout of body fat and muscle
Developed neuropathy in 2005
Now has lymphadema 2006It is my opinion that his subsequent disorders could have been avoided had he been diagnosed sooner by any of the dozen or so doctors he saw between 1977 to 2003

It's funny how you can be celiac for years and years and then still hear something that surprises you. I have always had that same problem with my feet--they hurt no matter what I put on them. Too much support hurts, too soft hurts, too hard hurts, too much walking hurts. I love walking on the beach barefoot, yet getting to the hard sand through the soft sand is difficult and totally drains me of energy. My feet have talked to me for years.
As for the body shape, I'm sure there is a standard shape that is said to be most celiacs, yet I think there will always be those of us who do not fit that standard. I am a member of a very large celiac support group and at most all meetings there are at least 50 people. This man named Les, does fit that body shape to a T, exactly. Yet, many of us do not. My dad, my sister, and I all are celiacs and we do all have a flat butt and my dad always did have that tummy, although I do not believe my sister and I did or do.
Deb, have you ever tried boxer briefs for your hubby? They always seem to have bigger waist's and slimmer butt and legs.

We urge all doctors to take time to listen to your patients.. don't "isolate" symptoms but look at the whole spectrum. If a patient tells you s/he feels as if s/he's falling apart and "nothing seems to be working properly", chances are s/he's right!
