I was wondering if anyone knew if it would matter if my contact solution was gluten free or not. I'm just paranoid about everything! :x

I was also wondering if anyone could give me advice about food allergy testing. I'm thinking about doing that because i'm not sure if i'm allergic to other things or not. I love dairy products and I want to make sure i'm not lactose intolerant. If I am, can i take those tablets called lactaid? or something like that?

Thanks! :)

Sterile contact solution CAN NOT contain gluten b/c gluten is not sterile and is not isotonic. The molecule is too big to be absorbed by the eye mucus, and only substances that can be absorbed by the eye mucus will be in contact solution. The solution must be a certain salt/saline ration to pass through the eye membrane and not affect the pressure in the blood vessels.

That being said, if your contact solution is not sterile, then who knows what’s in it. I have always recommended the pressurized saline solution. It is in a can like aerosol hairspray. The solution comes out, and no air goes back in, like with the squeeze bottles. I get mine at Wal-Mart. It is in a white can.

And as far as allergy testing, I am a huge supporter of the Lame Advertisement test. Someone from their company (or some other agent) spammed this board with adds from them, so the letters have to be spaced out or it will not take the word (with out replacing it with something else).

Anyway, I had a test done by them in the first place, before anything else. They showed a "gluten intolerance" which I looked into, and later found out about Celiac Disease. That alone proved to me that their test is not a bunch of crap. I was not "looking" for Celiac.

I had no idea what was making me sick, and they nailed it on the head. They also told me about other food intolerances from foods that I have never eaten, which I thought was weird. I asked how they did this (because it isn't an antibody test) and they said that basically, they put your blood on a slide with a sample, and watch for changes in the blood cell shape. The more severe the change, the more severe the intolerance.

If you want more information you can PM me. Or you can just check out their website, those 5 letters at dot com. I also had the EnteroLab tests, but they only test for a couple of foods.

Hope that helps, TiffJake
EnteroLab test positive for gluten intolerence and 2 gluten intolerence and celiac genes
DQ2 and DQ3 sub type DQ7 in December 2005
Gluten-free since Enterolab test, December 2, 2005.

Lame Advertisement Test positive for gluten intolerence in Sept 2005.
THEN found out that my fathers mother had nontropical sprue, she passed away at 40 from (stomach) cancer, had holes in her intestines when they caught it. I had no idea....
