Interesting Observation/question

About 6 years ago I lost about 100 lbs. It seems that I would often have fatty stools during this 9 month process. I didn't cut out gluten per se, but did eat very few carb foods, sticking mainly to proteins and veggies. At the time, I thought that the fatty/mucousy stools were a result of the fat being eliminated from my body. Maybe this was naiive!

So now I'm losing weight again (after gaining back 60 lbs of the 100!) and wonder how to differentiate between the fat being eliminated from my body and the fat that's not being absorbed. I will ask my gastro next month, but wondered if any of you had any experience/knowledge in this area.

I would guess the fat in the stool is fat that's not being absorbed. I don't know how fat would move to your intestines directly ... I think your body has to burn it for fuel to get rid of it.

Many celiacs are overweight and lose a lot of weight once they go gluten-free.

      Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

      I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.
