Celiac And Stomach Inflammation

Guest Eagle

I found out I had celiac and casein intolerance the hard way--after my gastro & nervous system got inflamed. My stomach just bloats like a balloon when I eat. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what might be good to eat that won't irritate it. I can only eat very small amounts at a time until it heals. I'm not eating any gluten or casein of course.

Hi Eagle.

When my insides were in that bloated, inflamed condition, I practically lived off of smoothies. They were oh, so soothing. I made my own from frozen fruits and rice milk. I'd put the frozen fruits in the blender, add the rice milk, and blend till smooth. My favorites were made with pineapple, blueberries and mangos. THey were my salvation.

To start stay away from processed food for a bit. Avoid coffee, tea (even herbal), sodas, all alcohol, spices, tomato based products and things that are very acid like OJ. Begin with a diet of rice, organic and unforified for now, bland fruits and veggies like bananas and apples, if you are a meat eater make sure it is unprocessed and don't use any sauces or butter. The Celiac Sprue Association has a good beginner list that is available on their website that you may want to look at also. I know how you feel and it will pass. Start off slow and eat only things you know you can tolerate that are fresh or cooked from fresh. Things will get better.

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?

Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
