Can anyone tell me of a good gluten-free tea that is also decaf (flavored or unflavored)? Thanks for any suggestions.

Now there's an open ended question! :-)

What do you like? Are you looking for decaf (like decaf black), low caffeine (like green or white), really low caffeine (like decaf green), or no caffeine (like herbal or roobois)?

I'm a fan of green tea, and even non-decaf versions have much less caffeine than black tea. White tea has less caffeine than that. (Republic of Tea and Celestial Seasonsings both carry gluten-free white teas.) I also like peppermint tea, flavored with a bit of honey. Tazo's Zen (green tea and lemon grass) is also good. After dinner, ginger tea (either store bought or fresh-grated ginger) is tasty with some honey. Apple cinnamon tea with lemon juice and honey is a "feeling sick" standby. I also like Republic of Tea's Good Hope Vanilla roobois tea.

What's your tea? :-)

Tea bags? I'm not particular about what tea I drink -- I just have regular Lipton decaffeinated bags.........gluten-free

Tiffany,

I left the question "open" like that because I wanted a wide variety of answers. :) I like the health benefits of green tea, but can't handle the caffeine...or the taste really. So I usually (before going gluten-free) would mix the green tea with some other flavored tea so that I couldn't taste it. I love peppermint tea, echinacea is wonderful but I hear I'm not suppose to drink it due to the autoimmune disease. Can't stand anything ginger....I take ginger pills for my stomach, but I have to crush them up and put them in capsules....yuck! :D

Thanks for the suggestions. I get tired of drinking water only.

celiac3270,

I didn't know if Lipton was gluten-free or not. Thanks for the info!!

There are a lot of good herbal teas on my tea shelf. Tazo's Passion, Yogi Tea's Red Chai, IslandRose's Strawberry Vanilla, Numi's Lime Tesan, and always Celestial Seasoning's Lemon Zinger (another perennial "not-feeling-well" tea). You might (or might not) like the taste of white tea. It has about as much caffeine as chocolate - about half of what green has - though, so I'm not sure how your system would handle it. Republic of Tea's Honeydew Melon White Tea is my favorite.

I'm not sure if the herbal teas I drink are caffeine-free or not. I use Stinging Nettle tea for allergy relief, dandelion tea (root or leaf, doesn't matter) for "everything that ails me," peppermint tea for upset stomach, and plain old Lipton for "wake me up!). I know the Lipton has caffeine, that is why I use it some mornings. The stinging nettle and dandelion teas get a spoonful of honey to counter the bitterness.

Sounds like you are in the UK. With blood numbers that high, I thought docs in UK would give an official diagnosis without the biopsy. You should ask about that, so you can get support faster.  I'd try to find and print out anything that supports that in your country, get another appointment and take all of it with you. Even in the US now, some docs are doing this, my 19 year old step granddaughter got an official diagnosis here in US with just blood results a few months ago.

Is soy sauce in Korea also made from wheat like it usually is in US? I'd be concerned that even if asking about gluten, they would not be aware of or think of some like that.

That's a good idea. It can at least establish the potential for developing celiac disease and can help people decided between a celiac diagnosis and NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). And it doesn't require a gluten challenge and can be had without a doctor's prescription.

I have my endoscopy on Thursday, has anyone had the procedure done with a cough? I don't have a continuous cough, but every now and then throughout the day I have sort of coughing episodes. They are a lot better than they were but I called endoscopy and they said to speak to my gp and my gp got back to me and said I need to ask endoscopy if its ok if I have it done still.  Help!

Thank you so much, everyone. For the moment my doctor just has me taking iron but hopefully we can reconnect soon. I'm going to look into genetic testing, too. Great advice all around and I appreciate it--and you can bet I'm going off the PPIs!
