Question About Return Of Acid Reflux

A few months ago, my sister was diagnosed with celiac disease. As far as I know, she has been very strict with her diet. Before her diagnosis, she had a major problem with acid reflux. After starting the celiac disease diet that problem cleared up. Recently, however, she has noticed a return of her acid reflux symptoms. I suspect this means she has been getting gluten in her diet again. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I had reflux my whole life. I have since realized that it was due to celiac all along. It took about 2-3 months on the gluten-free diet for my reflux to go away. Now, when I'm glutened it comes back and lasts for 3 weeks after I'm glutened by a cc amount. So, I would think that she is getting some gluten in her diet, but depending on how long the reflux has been back, it might be from one isolated glutening.

Apple cider vinegar tablets really help me when I do have reflux.

Does she know if she has been glutened lately?

Maybe your sister can lay off dairy for a while and see what happens.

I have a friend who's major symptom is acid reflux. She's discovered that she also gets it from other things, like apples and cucumbers. Maybe your sister is having reactions to other foods.

Great suggestions - thanks! I know she has many food allergies as well, including mushrooms, pepper and others. I suspect she is getting gluten in her diet and needs to take another look at that. I know they eat out a lot and that can be a real challenge for her. She has purchased a great restaurant guide for celiacs, which should help with that.

Thanks for the tips!

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?

Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
