Blood Test?

My 9 yo dd has been gluten-free/cf for 1 month. Her Enterolab results came back with elevated tTg, sensitivity to gliadan/casein and elevated fecal fat. My dh is questioning the results because Enterolab isn't "mainstream" and he now wants to take her to an "expert" (I don't agree, but that's another topic.) If we took her to a Dr. now, do you think there's any way that a blood test would come back positive without doing a gluten challenge? She has had an overwhelmingly positive response to the diet, and I am loathe to make her sick again, just to get a "definitive" diagnosis. As far as I'm concerned, her dietary response alone is enough to convince me. Any thoughts?

It's really impossible to say. It might take a few months for antibodies to disappear from blood completely, but then it would depend on how high the number had been originally, and that of course you don't know.

An overwhelming response to the diet should speak volumes, though...

My son's been gluten-free since March and his gastro took a blood test last week. I told him it wouldn't show anything because we've been off gluten for so long, but he said it takes about six months. I don't know....that goes against what I've read, but I'll guess we'll see. The results should be in within the next couple of days and I will post them. His sister had a negative blood test and a positive biopsy, so his could be negative for that reason too. Either way, I'm keeping him gluten free.

Sigh...my sons tests all came back negative according to his gastro's nurse. Even the gene test, so I don't know if the other tests would have shown anything even if we would have been consuming gluten over the last few months.

I'm not going to go ahead with the biopsy at this time because I feel with us being gluten free for so long, that it will be negative too.

Hi Scott, yes I have had symptoms for years and this is the second GI I have seen and he could not believe I have never been tested. He called later today and I am scheduled for an endoscopy. Is there a way to tell how severe my potential celiac is from the results above? What are the chances I will have the biopsy and come back negative and we have to keep searching for a cause?

I agree christina, there is definitely many contributing factors! I have the pain today, my pelvis, hips and thighs ache! No idea why. But i have been sitting at work for 3 days so im thinking its my back. This disease is very mysterious (and frustrating) but not always to blame for every pain.

"her stool study showed she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that." The wording of this part of the sentence does not make any sense at all. I don't mean to insult you, but is English your first language? This part of the sentence sounds like it was generated by translation software.

What kind of stool test was done? Can you be more specific?

Perhaps I should also have said that in addition to showing a very high response to gluten, her stool study showed that she had extreme reactions to everything achievement on it long course of microbials to treat that.
