Oops, I posted this yesterday in the wrong thread!

So, I've been pretty good this week but not great. I lost a pound - better than nothing! I have not had any candy of any kind all week, which is a miracle for me. I had regular sugared yogurt twice, but at least it had real sugar in it and not high-fructose corn syrup. I also had a few potato chips yesterday. Otherwise, it's been healthy fresh foods for me all week long. I was hoping to be rewarded with a nice loss, maybe next week.

I'll be exercising quite a bit this week. I am playing tennis two times today, walking hills tomorrow plus more tennis tomorrow, tennis Wednesday, and practice with the ball machine Thursday.

I don't usually "count" my weight more than once a week, but I was so frustrated the other day that I had to weigh myself today and record it. I'm down to 165, which is 3 pounds in the past 1-1/2 weeks. I'm really glad that I've stuck with it and didn't blow it by binging, which I've done in the past. So now I'm halfway to my first goal - 10 more pounds to go. (Still not sure if I'll make it by Nov. 17th, but I'm not giving up.)

My daughter put up a great quote on the refrigerator:

"The reason most people fail intead of succeed is that they trade what they want the most for what they want at the moment."

Good luck everyone! I hope you're all sticking with it!

Hi Ladies

Liz what your losing I seem to be gaining, I am now 151lbs.

I am getting into some kind of Gluten, I think that it could be my daughters medicine that she is on because I have not had anything that I could think of in the past few days and I had to rush to the bathroom and work. I had tasted her medicine like I always do and it did taste nasty like she says.

Ok here are my meals for the last couple of days, if I can remember that much.

Wednesday

up at 6am

Coffee with LF milk and sugar

B- gluten-free english muffin with scrambled egg and ham, gluten-free cheese

Tea

D- gluten-free Maple buckwheat flake cereal with lf milk

Working

Snack

32 oz tea

sunflower seeds

dinner at 1am

Tai Kitchen noodles Garlic something

Banna

another 32oz tea lasted for the rest of the night

Thursday up at 1pm

coffee with lf milk and sugar

I don't know what will be for dinner maybe spegetti.

Happy eating ladies

Dutifully checking in. Last week was not good, involving several meals out with friends (and many drinks), lots of potato chips, and not much exercise. When I went for my walk yesterday I realized I was pretty tired and was still a mile and a half from home, so I don't think I did myself any favors by slacking last week.

Have completed this weeks shopping and no tater chips made it into my cart. There was that box of Pamela's double chocolate chunk cookies, but those are already out of the picture.

Vowing to return to healthy habits.

I think I'm just going to laugh about this. I don't know if I'm retaining a ton of water or if my scale has a thing for Monday mornings. Somehow it says that I gained 4 pounds (169) since Saturday morning. I know that it isn't possible to gain 4 pounds of fat - I'm pretty sure I didn't even eat 4 pounds of food over the weekend. I did eat some salty soup for dinner last night and can retain water at times. I think I'm going to weigh again in a few days and not freak out over this. I've been doing great with eating and working out and KNOW that I couldn't have gained weight.

Jestgar - thanks for checking in. Anyone else still with us?

I'm still here, still the same weight as last week. I haven't been sticking to low-carb very well, but I've been trying to eat healthy and am exercising.

Well I've spent the last couple of days reading this thread & I have really enjoyed everybody's honesty. I have the same issues with weight as everyone else & similar struggles. I'd like to join but don't promise perfect reporting. I'll do what time allows.

I self diagnosed last Nov. with an elimanatin diet. I promised myself one year allowance to learn this new way of life. Now that time is nearly up and time to get it in gear. I don't diet through the holidays only try to maintane. I learned a long time ago that restricting myself through family celebrations was a sure way to gain 15 pounds. Then of course I want to punish myself come January. I just learned that constantly berating myself was a pretty sad way to live. Now I try to be more supportive of myself.

Anyway I hope you'll welcome me. I'd really like to pull out those '08 summer clothes next year & find I need to replace them all! (Too large for me, of course!)

Welcome! Feel free to jump right in. That's a good philosphy during the holidays. I think I'll make it my goal to maintain from Thanksgiving to New Year and not beat myself up.

My scale is working again ;) and I'm down a pound from last week to 164. Nine more pounds in 40 days. I can do it, I can do it...

LOL - I don't think I'll ever outgrow my love for basketball. My daughter and I have had a lot of fun over the years doing it together. Hats off to your hubby for being brave enough to referee! I always try to be extra patient with refs because I KNOW how hard it is.

in the afternoon I had a Sprite

This morning, eggs, coffee w/soy milk, tortillas w/butter.

Didn't bring lunch so I'll order chicken & beef nachos, no sour cream.

Tonight DD is coming home overnight & has requested rice, pork chops & arepas. Yea!!

Mornin' all.

Did much better this week. No potato chips were harmed. Only did morning exercises on Monday, but I walked up the hill to work every day and down, but downhill doesn't really count as exercise. Also have been getting off the bus a 1/2 mile early on the way home. This'll change as rainy season hits, but I'll do it as long as I can.

Down a pound this morning :)

Good job on walking extra to & from work!

This weekend was a merry go round of food!. DD came home to leave her dog with us while she travels to a conference in CN. She asked for a home-cooked meal so. Friday night we had Barbie Guts Soup, arepas w/cream cheese, pork chops & rice, apple and peanut butter spread.

Saturday I had 2 eggs & 2 corn tortillas w/coffee and soy milk. At work, drank tea. After went home to change for the wedding and ate rice and chicken for lunch. Delivered the flowers & stayed for the wedding. Then we went home & fed our dogs. I ate an arepa w/cream cheese, just in case. DH went to referee more soccer while DD & I went to the wedding reception. I had a mint, slice of ham & green beans, also bean soup & iced tea. WHen we left I ate another mint.

Sunday I had a reaction to something; a little C, grumpy, tired and sore. Not the worst reaction I've ever had but not pleasant. Ate a LOT! That old feeling that I just cannot eat enough. I forgot how desperate and uncomfortable that is. I think this is everything, pancakes & coffeew/soy milk, corn chips & dip, chicken and rice, soup, macaroons, chicken & rice, apple and dip, orange juice, water. My weight maintaned so I gues I needed all that.

This morning I feel much better. Had an arepa w/cream cheese, coffee & soy milk, 2 eggs.

Have a great day everybody!

Jestgar and Ang1 - glad to see you're still here! Ang1 - I totally understand the feeling of "can't get enough" and eating everything in sight. Glad you didn't gain because of it.

I'm down another pound to 163. Eight more pounds in 5 weeks! I'm thinking I can do it if I keep diligent with my food journal and working out. I'm looking forward to the 150's - haven't seen those numbers for over 5 years (before large doses of prednisone did me in).

I'm new to this Forum. Name is Maryruth. I've been wheat/gluten free and low carb for about 4 years now. Until last January that is--I had major surgery to remove a giant tumor from my spine and while I was in the hospital I lost too much weight (they did not seem to know what either gluten nor wheat are at Johns Hopkins--I lost 10 pounds before they figured it out!). So I actually allowed myself unrestricted carbs for the past 3-4 months.

Oops...Anyway, I need to take back off about 6-7 pounds to be at my ideal weight. I know that this doesn't seem like much to loose, but when you're this close to your goal weight, your body gets quite stubborn about taking off the last 5 pounds. Or at least mine does--ANY cheating on the carbs (no more than 35-40g carb per day) and I will not loose. An extra 10-15 g. over that and I gain! In addition to that, I am having to learn to walk again--and the extra weight doesn't help any with that. I have pool therapy 4-5 times a week and am exhausted just getting in to the grocery store where I get a motorized cart to shop. So actually cooking healthy meals after my day comes to a close is always difficult too.

SO--I'll join you if you'll 'have me.' When my husband and I first started loosing on the low carb diet, we did it together and that support really helped. But he's busy doing other things now and isn't so careful about the diet. Once he sees me serious again, he'll probably follow suit, so this will help us both.

Welcome, Maryruth. Those last pounds are stubborn & just as stubborn to keep off. I don't think I've ever kept them off long term. It is very important for you though. My DH has had 2 back surgeries and any weight gain is painfull for him. I'll bet the water feels good for your therapy. He used to walk in the pool.

Feeling much better today. Last night I ate a pork chop & rice w/lemon juice & orange juice. Later a snack of pancakes & water.

This morning, arepa and cream cheese, 2 eggs, coffee w/soy milk. Lunch today is chicken and rice, apple and peanut butter dip. See a pattern? I'm kind of a boring eater.

Gearing up for basketball, Lonewolf?

Oh yeah, I'm getting ready for basketball! My 15 year old daughter will be on the varsity this year and we've been working out together a couple of times a week. She actually beat me in our full-court game of one on one last night. The legs really are the first thing to go! Although I think I'll probably be in better shape than most of the girls on the team on day 1.

What's an arepa?

It's so exciting when they are on varsity! I couldn't have been prouder. DH coached our daughter through too & it was great experience for both of them. We did have to have a talk though, "when you're on the field, he is your coach, at home he's your Dad. We don't bring home issues onto the field." That was for both their benefits.

An arepa is a white corn flour cake with cheese in it. DH is Colombian and that is a staple food in their diet. So when DD & DS visit it is one of those foods they always ask to eat. Neither seems interested in learning to cook them. The great thing is it is gluten-free for me. Probably one of the reasons I always felt so good when I lived in Colombia. Kind of dumb of me not to figure that out sooner. THey eat very little wheat flour and most food is cooked from scratch.

I'll have to look up a recipe for arepas - they sound good.

My daughter was on JV last year as a Freshman and got a few quarters of varsity in. She got "moved up" for the playoffs and got to go to state with the team. It really motivated her to work hard so she could be all varsity this year. It can be a challenge to be coach and mom, which is one reason I don't want to be the head varsity coach. We have a lot of fun with it though. Last year my older daughter was a cheerleader, so we all went to all the games together. That will happen again next year.

That's so cool for you. I really miss seeing my daughter that way. She's in her final year of college and she's a cool young lady. I enjoy her as an adult now in a whole new way, I thought we'd really grow apart when she left home but I think we're just as close. We talk by phone everyday. I love it.

Well, had a reality check today. My assistant came in on her day off to look at her daughter's wedding pictures on my computer. There were several pictures of me pinning on corsages. EEEEooooo....I looked older than I wanted & flabby arms with the dress I wore. I guess I do need to be more serious about myself. Like I said before, my year is nearly up and I need to get on the stick. Time to bite the bullet and set that alarm clock back a few for my 10 minute workout. It's postures w/deep breathing. When I was doing that 5 days a week, I really felt much stronger & more toned.

Yesterday I had 2 eggs, 2 torrillas w/butter, coffee w/ soy milk. Lunch was rice and pork cutlet. Met my DD halfway to return her dog, a 1 1/2 hour drive. I had french fries and a Sprite. Dinner was pizza, peanuts and candy corn, water & tea.

Today same breakfast, lunch was 1/2 beef, 1/2 chicken nachos & tea. Had some corn chips for snack.

Dinner will be some kind of chicken. I was given a pizza stone for Bosses' Day. So this weekend I'm going to bake Chicken Alfredo Pizza!!

I'm also a nurse, but one who has worked in chronic care, and to some extent, it is more satisfying to see patients through to a diagnosis (as opposed to working in the ED), but an accurate diagnosis does not occur not as often as it should! Your posting presents a lot of information. But a couple of things I can respond to. One, celiac disease is diagnosed by endoscopy and biopsy of the duodenum. So, pathology will need to weigh in. It's not diagnosed on gastroscopy. (At least, not as far as I know). Two, did you get blood tests for celiac disease? You will need to be eating gluten in order for those to be accurate. Three, where was the CT angiogram (of what)? I could go on and on, but thought I'd start there.
    • trents
Was a biopsy done when you had your gastroscopy? Concerning your anemia, are you B12 deficient? It's nearly impossible to get sufficient B12 if you are a vegetarian unless you take supplements.
    • Suzi374
And I’m anaemic, however I’m also female and vegetarian. I had an iron trans a couple of years ago however it’s starting to dwindle and taking supplements doesn’t seem to work. I can’t seem to absorb it.
    • Suzi374
Hi, I attended a neurologist appt last Tuesday, which I nearly cancelled, due to ongoing numbness and tingling in toes to mid foot. One of the first things he asked was ‘are you celiac’. I’m not. He thought all reflexes were ok but at the last minute decided on nerve conduction tests which were low normal. He was a little confused as he felt they should be better and tried a new set of probs, all the time, giving me multiple shocks which were not enjoyable lol. Anyway, he’s now ordered tests for myeloma, and all the vitaminy things that so many of you mention on here, also tests looking for autoimmune responses. I already have Hashimotos. Interestingly, to me, but maybe someone out there can relate or knows more than i do, although I was a nurse, but ED not ‘weird symptoms’  nurse. Anyway back to the interesting thing, I took duramine in 2013 to lose weight which caused a massive panic attack when I stopped taking it and half my hair fell out. I only took it for a week but it was horrible and I regret it. It triggered ongoing panic attacks which are horrendous. So I feel like I’m a bit crazy. Then in 2020 I had this sudden onset of horrible pain when trying to eat a cinnamon roll. It continued and I lost around 20 kgs. I had two gastroscopes and a colonoscopy and they were all normal. I scored a barium swallow and CT angiogram. All normal. The pain subsided a little but I was left with reflux and an awful feeling that I couldn’t get air when I ate some foods. This was not anxiety.  The anxiety was separate and I still maintain this. This was something to do with eating. It was like the air was thick but I wasn’t short of breath. I just had the sensation I was, then it triggered anxiety. Anyway, I had other weird things- couldn’t bend knees to shave legs in shower lol. Knees felt stiff and swollen but they weren’t. Knee WOUld swell up randomly but mri showed minimal issues. A bit of a meniscus degeneration but insignificant. Then the buzzing sensations in my head, the feeling like someone was stabbing me with something sharp. So now, I pre empted his tests, although I don’t think I’m celiac because it should have come up on gastroscopy, I’ve gone off gluten. Since Tuesday last week so 9 days. Since then I don’t appear to be as constipated, I realised I got through today without a nap and I’m not tired, maybe it’s just today and not related but I get very tired normally and sleep straight after work often, I can bend my knees and shave my legs lol, the buzzing vibrating has gone from my head, I had to call and ambulance as my heart decided we were off on a run, but we weren’t running and I’ve been a bit twitchy at bed time when trying to sleep, reflux is improving, I did get the weird suffocating feeling a bit when eating today but not as bad normall. Tingling and numbness still present and I felt like it moved up my legs a bit today but I’m a bit jittery. So I don’t know if it’s celiac disease or a gluten intolerance but I think, and it may be wishful thinking because my symptoms do make life a bit challenging, but maybe I’m feeling better. I don’t feel as cloudy. My thinking feels crisper. Like there’s no buzzing and I’m not fighting to break through the cloudiness now. I hope so much that this may help me feel a bit better moving forward. It would be a miracle as I really have struggled to work and parent and keep the house clean and I’m always anxious and exhausted.  If you get this far, please tell me if you you can relate to any of the above. Oh and tonsils out 5 years ago but before that antibiotics multiple times a year, sometimes intramuscular because they were so bad.  Op was meant to take 30 mins, it took 1.5 hours due to size of them.
    • Peace lily
Im still not gaining weight I’m on a gluten free diet . And still having issues with constapation started priobiocs figured it would help been over two weeks . I guess it’s going to be a long road for me .
