Hi All, I hope you don't mind a newbie jumping in on your thread
In late October/early November I realized that I can't tolerate gluten. I have not had the official testing done with a gi because I can't bare to eat gluten any more to get the test done. But, I did have the blood tests done and they seemed to indicate that something was going on with me and gluten.
Anyway, unlike most of you I have a lot of weight to lose. About 150lbs. Not too happy about that but I have to try to do something positive about it asap. Since going gluten free I feel like a new woman and now I would like to look like one as well-lol!
I try to exercise a few times a week using Leslie Sansone's walking DVD's. I would like to add some strength training and belly dancing into my routine. As for food, not too certain how to approach that yet. Would love some suggestions if you have them.
Well, thanks for letting me join in, it was great to find this thread, and Happy New Year to all of you!!

Hi Dolly and welcome
Feel free to post your meals and if you are brave enough you weight each week. I still have not been offically diagnosed be I do really well on the diet. Before I started I could not figure out why I could not lose my weight I had gotten up to 160lbs and I am only 4'11 and I am now down to 151 I gained over the holidays because I had not been sticking to my diet. But I am back on track so I will hopefully see some results. My weight goal is getting down too 120 I have a ways to go.
My advise to you is to, don't watch you calorie intake at first as long as you don't eat too many cals. Eat lots of fruit and veggies and fresh meats, stay away from the processed packaged foods let you body get used to the adjustment. After a couple of months then start to eat some of the packaged foods from Amy's line the have some great foods but be carefull of what you get because is not gluten free only a few of this line say that they are gluten free. But if you will be highly sensitive to wheat, the factory is not wheat free, nuts and soy milk. If you are a sandwich eater like me, its is fast and easy for me to make when I need to eat and run. I have tried differant gluten-free breads and have found thay only one Kroger grocery store in my area carries the Kinnkinnick bread line they are great thats good and not as hard as the other breads out there.
I have found that Walmart carries some gluten free items but you have to look for gluten free on the back of the packages. If you are ok with buying Wallmart brands then these are my usuall items that are gluten free: Value brand lunch meat, bacon, cheese (shredded and sanwhich cheese). Some Yoplait yogurt, and of cours any fresh meats. They did carry spegetti noddles but stopped.
I wish you luck Dolly on you new diet, here are my meals for the last few days
Friday (I work 3 nights a week Dolly so you will see me posting at odd hours)
up at 1:30pm
coffee
D- Amy's Rice Crust Pizza with Turkey, purple onion, bell pepper and cheese
DDP
Saturday
coffee
gluten-free raisen toast
Happy eating ladies

You mentioned that Yoplait yogurt does come in some gluten free flavors-do you know which ones are gluten-free?
Thanks!!

Hi everyone,
I haven't been here for ages because I've been too embarrassed. I've gained 10 pounds since school started (day after Labor Day) and am right back to where I started last year at this time. Very frustrating since I worked so hard last spring and lost 13-14 pounds and then let it slip a bit over the summer. Aarrgghh.
I signed up for our community center "Biggest Loser" competition. I know I don't have enough weight to lose to win any prizes, but just having to weigh myself in front of someone else once a week is motivation enough to behave myself. I did my first weigh-in and got "before" pictures taken today. I'm really just hoping to lose 25 pounds in the 12 weeks that the contest runs.
I've been really busy with coaching basketball, but I'm going to try to get on here and post my food intake to help with the accountability.
B - 2 pieces chicken sausage
L - Salad with 2 oz turkey breast and about 1-1/2 Tbs Italian dressing, carrot sticks, satsuma orange
S - 2 Satsumas (a couple of hours apart)
D - Spaghetti: only about 1/2 C noodles (at the most) and a bunch of sauce made with ground turkey, salad with low cal raspberry vinaigrette
Hope you all are having a good 2008!
Liz

Hi again all.
I'm with LoneWolf - I gained back the ten pounds I had lost but I have a new strategy.
Someone on a different thread said something that really struck a chord with me: "I finally feel good and I want to look good". And I though yeah, that's me. So since reading that I've been really careful with eating things I'm not very tolerant to, I'm more aware of my portions, and I don't eat breakfast until I get work, where I just have fruit.
I have started doing the warm up part of my exercise tapes in the morning, not for exercise, but to limber up, and I try to just move more frequently during the day. Still hoping to establish an exercise program, but for now I'll concentrate on making sure these current changes become habit.

Yah!!! Hi Liz, I was wondering where you have been, who cares if you have gained weight I think that most of us have gained something over the Holidays I know that I have, but for me it was not eating junk food I had been eating regular food packed with gluten because of parties and such. So because of eating all that crap I gained weight, I did not over eat on all the food or eat alot of candy and such. My body and I know this can't handle gluten, but I at the stuff anyway, but I am back on track with my gluten free diet I don't know if I had lost any weight. The last time I weighed myself I was back up to 151lbs, and I was so upset with myself. I go back to work on Thursday and I will see what I weigh. But I had been drinking alot of Diet Dr Peppers while at work and not drinking any water, so I know that, that contributed to some of my weight gain
My meals for the last couple of days
Sunday
B-Coffee
scrambled eggs with purple onion, bell pepper, cheese and gluten-free bacon
D- 2 chicken legs, mashed potatos, cole slaw (from Chicken express)
DDP
Monday
B- gluten-free raisen toast
milk
coffee Starbucks Carmel Mochiotto (I love this but I am sure its not good for me)
D- Hamburger with cheese, onion, baby pickells (I made the hamburgers myself)

Tuesday
B- gluten-free vann waffles with gluten-free syrup
milk
coffee
L- gluten-free sandwhich with turkey, alfalfa sprouts, avocado, cheese umm umm good

D- I loved the sandwhich so much and I had left over avacado that I had another sandwhich with the same things.

Wednesday
B- Coffee

no idea for lunch and dinner
Happy eating ladies, off to go take my test for this week

Here I am two days in a row! Didn't get to work out today, but did teach 6 PE classes and coached basketball - not as much exercise as you might think, but definitely not sedentary.
B - 1 slice turkey bacon, small handful of raw almonds (20-25?)
S - Envirokidz cereal bar
L - about 2 oz deli turkey, carrot sticks, a few more almonds, satsuma
S - apple and satsuma
D - 1/2 turkey burger (patty only), 1 small turkey hotdog, about 1/2 C corn, 1/2 small potato, salad with no dressing, a few carrot sticks, satsuma
Hmmm - it really looks like I'm becoming addicted to satsuma's. Guess they're a good substitute for all the carbs and junk I ate over Christmas.
Donna - good for you to be so faithful to this thread - thanks for helping keep it going! Don't worry, I'm sure you'll get that weight off again.
Dolly - welcome! I hope you stick around and that we can help you out!
Hope to see more of you getting back into it and posting more regularly.

Hi Ladies,
I am kinda bummed because I have to go back to work tonight, with all the cry babies, and winers and I am not talking about the babies. Well I guess some of them anyway. I have been off for 7 days really did not do much except for study and clean house a little. We should know something about out sale of the house, we have been waiting on Countrywide to make a discision on the sale since this is a shourt sale, no reason why they won't deny the sale because the offer on the house is more than we owe, and with countrywide in hot water, you would think that it would help them out a little, but I know that they could still say no.
My meals since yesterday
B- coffee
Maple buckwheat flake cereral with milk
no lunch I was off taking my test which I passed but I have the option to take it again to get a higher grade.
D- gluten-free Spaggetti (thank goodness I had my daughter with me instead of my husband he likes the jar stuff and my daughter likes the way I make it )
I think 4 glasses of fresh tea, I won't have so many when it is not fresh, and I had a hard time sleeping because of the caffine.
Today
coffee
2 gluten-free raisen toast and milk
not a clue as to what is for lunch and I think that I will have left over spagetti for dinner at work tonight. And I will weigh myself to see if I had lost anything, I doubt it.
Happy eating everybody

Hi Dolly,
Welcome to the thread. I know 150 is a lot.
EDIT: What I meant to say is 'I know 150 is a lot, but you can do it.
I have a sister who's about that much overweight at 5'4" (off topic my other sister is 6 ft and 155lb), and if I could offer her one piece of advice ( I really can't - we've had challenges to our relationship) it would be to clean out the fridge and the pantry. Just get rid of all the stuff with too many sugars, anything with trans-fats or too many saturated fats, skip the lo-cal options that include hydrogenated fats, anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup goes in the garbage. I'd say to her: Make it all go away & clean the fridge itself so it looks clean. Take a trip to the grocery store & replace that stuff with colorful, exciting fruits and vegetables so that when you look in your fridge, it looks "fresh". Include those oily fishes and chicken.
Ideally, we'd be eating mostly veggies, nuts, lean proteins & the like.
I lost 25 pounds in about 3 months (a few years ago) by walking every day (not a ton - just sticking to it - every day) and followinig the principles of "The Zone" - balancing out carb-protein-fats --> 40-30-30 % of daily calories coming from each (By Barry Sears), but sensible eating and some exercise will get the job done. When I did that, I did the clean-out of the fridge, the pantry, and also my closets. If I'm determined and I'm not looking at the goodies, I don't get so many cravings. It took a real change. I really had to change the way I looked at food. I began to see food as fuel rather than all the other things that food was used for before. It took perseverance.
Anyway, welcome.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, I'm back. You can't say I didn't warn you
Ahhhhh ... the last of the dental work was completed yesterday. Goodbye to the stress, the pain and the money - oh well, I didn't really need that $3,000 anyway (above the $1,500 that my insurance covered). The garage has been half emptied. We got rid of an astounding amount of crap. Good riddin's. I can park my car in there.
Moving forward, I'm ready to hit the gym. I'm ready to clean out the fridge. I'm ready to shed these last 12 pounds and continue on into the coming year with a more healthy lifestyle.
I maintained my weight through the holidays (got glutened, of course too). However, I've lost all my tone & the cellulite on the reear end is becoming more prominent. My rear end kind of looks like 2 marshmallows stuck together. That can't be good.
As it stands:
Weight: 160
Waistline: 35
Still smoking
2 MONTH GOAL:
Weight: 147 (that would be 13 pounds to lose)
Waistline: 30ish
Be a non-smoker
I'm really going to make the effort to post what I'm doing and how it's going. I'm really going to try to keep a food journal.
Come on, Ladies - Let's make a change ini our lives!
Come on, YEAH !

Hi Kat,
I love your enthusiasm. You've inspired me to "come clean" with my weight again. (I think I had it on here or maybe the other thread at one time.)
Weigh-in on 1/7: 175 lbs. Goal: 150 lbs by March 31, which is when the "Biggest Loser" competition ends at my community center. Beyond that, my goal is 142, which is what my driver's license said for a long time because I actually weighed that much for quite a while. At 5'7, 142 is a reasonable goal. I'll never be "skinny".

sigh
ok, I am so not posting my weight. But I will say that my fantasy goal is to lose 40 lbs, reality goal is to lose 20. 10 of these I expect to be gone by the end of the month (stamping foot).
So for still sticking to the fruit for breakfast, random lunch, veggies with dinner plan. A little to soon to claim actualy weight loss, but I'm hoping to be down 1 pound by tomorrow's weigh in.

I am guilty of something I say that I am going to excerise and walk the dog, I have not done anything.
My goals for 2008 are, with us moving hopefully at the end of January, the Apartment that we are moving into has a fitness area open 24 hours, and if we keep my dog then I will be forced to walk him. so I will be able to get into shape and be OCD about working out.
My other main goal is to loose 10 by Easter, another 15 by summer and look really hot for my birthday in October with a total weight loss of 30, which should put me at 120lbs I would like to be back at 110lbs but I know that would be really hard so I think that 120 is reasonable I looked great at that weight. I am not going to try for 95lbs because that is rediculess to get too, I had never been that except for the 5th grade and I know that is not optainable and I don't want to look anorexic.
So exercise, weight loss, so I can gain all back if we ever finally decide to have another baby, which should not be too much since with Hannah I only gained 12lbs.
No health goals is to finish school, and make decent money with Medical Transcription, to get a little more secure financally, keep my house/apartment clean, and keep my man happy
I hope that ya'll have a great day, I have to get off the computer so I can clean the bathrooms, my daughter does not know how to brush her teeth and not make a mess.

I'm hungry, I did not eat before I came to work so I went and got some Celery and carrot sticks from the cafeteria, I was going to get sunflower seeds but the Celery and carrots caught my eye, and I also got Vitamin water fruit punch
