I know that there is an active Celiac Group in Colorado Springs. But I was wondering how many people in Teller County need to be gluten-free...

If you are living in Teller County contact me because I would love to join a group and work on gluten-free awareness in Woodland Park.

Laura, I was diagnosed less than a week ago and would love to find that group. Did you ever find one? Is there a chance you can educate me on resources for food and assistance in our area?

Thank you. I was hoping she was still on the forums. We are in a little mountain town, so finding resources and support is difficult. And I am so new to gluten-free that I am overwhelmed.

My daughter, who also has celiac, lives in Denver and I know it's a gluten-free haven. How far are you from a larger city that has a Whole Foods or Safeway?

I understand how overwhelming it is to be newly diagnosed. We were all there at one time but it does get much easier. In the meantime your best bet is to stick to whole foods like meats, fruits and veggies and familiarize yourself with the diet before you start adding in a lot of processed foods. You'll find a wealth of info on the forum.

It's too bad that you can't drive as I'm sure Colorado Springs would have a lot of options for you. I haven't been to Denver since I was diagnosed so really can't tell you much more about it. If you could get to Whole Foods when you visit your Dad, you'd probably be in 7th heaven. But then the large supermarkets have a lot of options, too. I know my daughter shops at Whole Foods but also occasionally shops at Safeway and Target.

Personally I have a lot of different flours (too many actually) but you can mix up your own simple mix using white rice flour, tapioca flour/starch and potato starch plus xanthan gum. Potato starch should not be confused with potato flour, which is a different product. The ones I buy locally are usually made by Bob's Red Mill and I have bought rice flour in an Asian store.

Pamela's Baking & Pancake Mix is also another product I like a alot and I get it on the subscribe-and-save plan from Amazon.

Hopefully someone from Colorado will see this and chime in to give you some recommendations. You might want to read a lot in the Gluten-Free Recipes section for lots of info.

      For 16 years I have relied on the website glutenfreedrugs.com to determine if a pharmaceutical is gluten-free. The website has been down for at least a week. Does anyone have any information about this outage, the status of the website founder and maintainer pharmacist Steven A. Plogsted or a phone number? I did not get a response for my email to glutenfreedrugs@gmail.com in October of 2022. Steven did respond to my emails in 2012. Thanks.

      Sounds like you are in the UK. With blood numbers that high, I thought docs in UK would give an official diagnosis without the biopsy. You should ask about that, so you can get support faster.  I'd try to find and print out anything that supports that in your country, get another appointment and take all of it with you. Even in the US now, some docs are doing this, my 19 year old step granddaughter got an official diagnosis here in US with just blood results a few months ago.

      Is soy sauce in Korea also made from wheat like it usually is in US? I'd be concerned that even if asking about gluten, they would not be aware of or think of some like that.

      That's a good idea. It can at least establish the potential for developing celiac disease and can help people decided between a celiac diagnosis and NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). And it doesn't require a gluten challenge and can be had without a doctor's prescription.

      Anyone had endoscopy with a cold/cough???

      I have my endoscopy on Thursday, has anyone had the procedure done with a cough? I don't have a continuous cough, but every now and then throughout the day I have sort of coughing episodes. They are a lot better than they were but I called endoscopy and they said to speak to my gp and my gp got back to me and said I need to ask endoscopy if its ok if I have it done still.  Help!
