Hemp Hearts

Hi!

My sister has a friend who is a naturopath and she suggested I use hemp hearts. Here is a website about it. It sounds really interesting... Also, for those with energy problems (Medaka, me, etc.), this sounds like it could really help....

Let me know what you guys think......

Thanks!

Hi Deb,

I'm doing fine, although the medication for the collagenous colitis is not working in any way, but I still have to finish the full 8 weeks. I think the next stage is budesonide (sp?)..... I have just sold my house and bought another, so it has been hectic for the last few weeks.... We bought outside of the city a house that is the same size, newer, and very much cheaper. At least now I can give myself some time off work to concentrate on getting myself better.....

How are things going for you?

Have a great day!

Yes, I had been wondering, too :D. I get used to seeing posts from certain people all the time so I start to wonder if they're away for only a few days.

DIGESTION: Customers report efficient digestive systems without sluggishness-- able to derive much more benefit from less food. Because they are so easily digested, customers claim that Hemp Hearts have cured or reduced the effects of chronic problems of the digestive system. There are no known allergies to Hemp Hearts. Because they are a well-balanced source of all required proteins, all essential fats and most vitamins, Hemp Hearts are of special benefit to those who are unable to eat gluten, lactose, sugar, fish, nuts, meat and other common foods.

Interesting...they mention celiac disease...and digestion issues, which are also important to many of us.

Hi celiac3270!

It's nice to hear from you! I know you are extremely busy now that school has started again and considering how academically advanced you are for your age, it doesn't surprise me that you throw yourself 100% into your schoolwork....

How have you been feeling? I hope your stomach is healing more and more each day....

We sold the house and bought outside of the city! I can now take some time off work to concentrate on my health without the hectic lifestyle I previously had with four kids and working full time.... I am hoping that the stress that has been lifted by this change will make a world of difference in my recovery.....

The treatment for the collagenous colitis has done absolutely nothing to improve. There has been absolutely no change. I go back to see him again after the new year and I guess the budesonide (sp?) will be the next step. I am worried though, I have seen some posts where the company that makes budesonide can't guarantee gluten-free status..... mmmm...... that worries me..... I will have to talk it over the the doctor, but then I am worried he will fast track me right to the prednisone..... kinda like "what's the lesser of two evils????"

Hi! :D

I haven't been getting any better, either. I recently went back to the celiac dr. again, and I am also in the process of trying homeopathic remedies to heal...Open Original Shared Link:

I just remembered this thread, so I am posting an update. Yesterday, I went to two doctors: my regular celiac doctor and the homeopathic doctor. I visited the homeopathic doctor first. He spent an hour with my mom and I and asked a lot about cravings, food likes and dislikes, and symptoms. At the end, he gave me a remedy. Oh, I asked about the gluten-free status. He said that the remedies he makes are always in cane sugar. Then, of course, the remedial ingredient is something natural, such as spider...I didn't ask what bug or whatever mine was made of  . Anyway, I'm supposed to take 3 of them, twice a day. He said that there were three ways it could go: no reaction at all--which means that the dosage isn't high enough or it's the wrong remedy, getting much better--which means that the dosage is right as is the remedy, or I feel worse, which is fine cause the idea is that I'd get some symptoms, but then I'd get better than I was before--kind of like when you work out, you break down your muscles and they get stronger--that's my analogy, anyway. I have to take it once in the morning, once in the evening and I should avoid eating or drinking anything 20 min. before and 20 min. after taking it. I had some diarrhea this morning and a bit this afternoon, which I am assuming is the remedy--my stomach is a little queasy too.....but I think the stomach might be because I've gone about a week since I got sick--I usually throw up and get abdominal pains for 24 hours every 7-10 days. Oh, he also said that if I don't feel good or am sick, I shouldn't take it until I feel better.

Later in the day, I went to the regular celiac doctor. He liked how I was doing physically -- since my last visit two months ago, I had gained 7 pounds and grown an inch! He was rather perplexed at my situation...and he prescribed a medicine to take. The homeopathic doctor said not to add any more medication, so my mom said that we're going to try the homeopathic remedy first. The regular celiac doctor wants me to try a medicine whenever I start to feel sick. He said that there's some medicine, Riddilin or something that does something similar, but he doesn't like that one because it causes irritability and some other symptoms or whatever. Instead, he told me to take this medicine that isn't FDA approved--but he's been using it for a decade on patients. It is approved in Europe and Canada, so my mom thinks it's probably safe--really inexpensive, too--99 cents per pill. I'm supposed to take one if I feel sick, then another 6 hours later. The medication does something with my stomach. See, my villi are grown back, but my stomach is really red and raw, still. The doctor also thinks, based on how my vomit looks like (according to my and my mother's account), that my food isn't being digested fast enough. Therefore, the medication the celiac dr. wants me to take sends a signal to the thing that controls how quickly your stomach digests food. It effectively "turns off" the thing that tells your stomach to slow down with digestion. Thus, my food would be digested faster and my symptoms would, he hopes, not last as long. He thinks that these symptoms are something that will take time and will go away in time, but he doesn't want me to have to suffer longer than I have to.

Thanks for answering my question and for reading this

Just coming back for a quick edit: I forgot to mention: the celiac dr. said that I don't need to worry about sugars and carbs and stuff anymore! I should still avoid acid and the sugars in fruit drinks, grapes, watermelon, etc., but I can finally eat cakes, cookies, and other stuff w/o worrying about sugar consumption! He said that the sugar wasn't about my stomach, but about bowels...since they have only been an issue because of the remedy, I can now eat somewhat normally. Thanks again for putting up with my ramblings

-celiac3270

I was sick on Thursday and then Saturday with the usual symptoms, though I think that they were as a result of the homeopathic remedy in part. I haven't taken the remedy since Wednesday night and my mother's going to call him next week. I have to go--otherwise I would've made a longer reply <_<

Good to hear from you again :D

Hi celiac3270,

When I started reading about you taking the homeopathic route, I was so hoping that this would be an avenue that would bring you some relief, but alas, it wasn't so. I am sorry to hear that it is not alleviating your symptoms. Did he say how long it would take for it to "kick in" and start working? I wonder if your system should have responded to it by now....

Let me know because I am starting more and more to look into the homeopathic route. I have been looking into hemp hearts for my lack of energy.

Hope things are going well for you in school and that you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving (although if you were sick on Thursday, I guess your Thanksgiving wasn't that great.....)

Has anyone ever tried these hemp hearts? My energy is extremly low, although I really try to stay gluten-free. If they work I am want to purchase them but I don't want to spend more money on something that does not make a difference. Does anyone have any other suggestions on getting your energy back up...I feel like I am 90 years old half of the time.

Thanks!

Karen,

I am interested in trying out the hemp hearts. I mean they can't do any harm so why not? I want to start playing soccer again in January and I need energy!

Question: Where did you find them.. A health food store? Ordering online? I am just wondering where to look for them.

Thanks! And let us know how you are getting along with the hemp hearts.

:)

Hi Medaka,

I found them at a health food store in a shopping mall. Since I have been looking into them, I have noticed them more. I even saw them in the specialty section of one of our major supermarkets, Loblaws......

Results I have found so far:

I am sleeping much better at night. I seem to be able to get into a really good deep sleep and I have woke up a lot less during the night. Now this has translated into more energy during the day, I don't feel so tired, but is it because of the hemp hearts or is it just because I am getting a much better rest? I will post more after being on them a bit longer.....

Have a great day!

Thanks Karen,

I hope the supermarkets here have them or the health food stores. I'm going to try and find some.

That's great that they seem to be working for you. More sleep = good :)

I use Nutiva's Hemp Seed - nutiva.com, though I've been told that there is another brand out there that is better tasting. Health food stores sell it, including Harry's/Whole Foods. Interestingly, it can not be grown or manufactured in the U.S. and the FDA has strongly recommended retailers not to carry it.

Go figure, something that is good for you, that can also be used in other ways, grows like a weed :D and does not have halucinogenic(sp?) properties.

Yup! Whenever I have that 3:00pm slump @ work I have a few spoonsful

and it perks me right up. I also have some an hour or so before my soccer games

or working out and I seem to have more stamina!

Works for me :D .

Canadian Karen -- HI! How are the hemp hearts working out long term? Does it pep you up or mellow you out? I have problems sleeping too.

I noticed you have collagenous colitis. Is that like (I think it's called) non-responsive Sprue? Or non-responsive Celiac?

Do you also have secondary food allergies? I do. I found it stemmed from SOY.

Hi!

I still use the hemp hearts. I sprinkle them on top of my Envirokids cereal in the morning. I didn't find they made any difference in the energy dept. but they are great for a supply of Omegas and they taste really great! They have a nice nutty taste that I am hooked on........ Spruces up my cereal!

Collagenous colitis is different. It is also called microscopic colitis because it can only be identified through the microscope. It is microscopic changes in the cells. I believe it is the root cause of my continued problems and that is another reason why I don't accept the diagnosis of refractory celiac which the doc has given me.

Here is a link, you will notice it states that quite often it is nocturnal - well, I can personally attest to that fact! <_< That's why so many of my posts will be in the middle of the night - when my bowels decide to be fully active......

My doctor did mention to me after my colonoscopy/endoscopy that he took a biopsy sample for microscopic colitis. I had never heard of it before.

Hi Karen

I am in the GTA and haven't been able to find Hemp Hearts anywhere. Do you (or anyone out there) know specifically of any locations in Toronto area? I would like to try these but am wary of ordering online.

Thanks in advance.

Hi , since being gluten free I am still having bad stomach problems . Such as constant gas in my stomach 24/7 ,burning, constant bubbling noises coming from my stomach and gurgling sounds that never stop .Pain under the left side of my rib cage when ever I eat and just always there’s pain there  .  My symptoms have not improved at all since being gluten free.  Could this be refractory coeliac disease ?? How is that even diagnosed or confirmed  ?  I had tests recently and this is what they say :Endomysial abs (IgA) -Positive  TTG abs (IgA)U/ml : My result is : 0.9 U/ml The Range:0 - 10 U/ml What does this mean pls ??? How can I still test positive for Endomysial abs when I am gluten free and am very careful about cross contamination? Do I even have coeliac disease I’m convinced some other digestive disorder is causing these symptoms .   I also have not had a endoscopy and now the gastroenterologist calls me after one year ( I’m from the uk and have free healthcare which has been such a nightmare with all this and never help me  )  so as I am gluten free the gastroenterologist advised me to start eating gluten again to be referred for a biopsy .. Is a biopsy even worth me doing ? The only proof I have is when I was eating gluten I could never get my ferretin , vitamin d and folate levels up . And since being gluten free these have gone up a little bit  . But that doesn’t always mean coeliac as I know gluten stops absorption in even normal people  . Pls can anyone shed some light it’s much needed ! And share some advice or answer my questions above . I have no idea with this whole coeliac stuff and am very much struggling .Much Appreciated .
