I Did The Silliest Thing Today

Today I did the silliest thing. I missed eating lunch because a friend was here and we got talking for quite some time. I was so hungry I wanted food immediately. I didn't have anything at all that I could eat straight away and my sister left a loaf od great freshly baked bread out on the kitchen counter. I thought that eating anything was better than felling so hungry, so I grabbed a sliced and bit off a corner of the slice. As soon as it was in my mouth I came to my senses and managed to spit the bread out. I went into the kitchen and put some sweet potatoes on to cook.

Less than an hour later I got really bad stomach pains and I was very surprised to see my belly was really distended. I can't believe that it could happen by just tasting bread and that it happened so quickly.

I quite enjoyed the sweet potatoes and I added a small amount of butter on them. Also not a good idea as I am casein intolerant. Somehow I can manage a small amount of butter without to much damage done. I am still trying to find an alternative to barbeque sauce.

Look for Smart Beat fat free margarine. It comes in a squeeze bottle. No dairy in it at all and soy free too. It would also be a good idea to keep some food in the house that doesn't have to be cooked so you have something to eat.

I have a couple of foods that I always have on hand in case I'm too hungry to wait. I don't know what your favorites are but I almost always have some type of corn tortilla chips or rice chips. I also have gluten free muffins all the time in the freezer. I bake every saturday. We can be so vulnerable when we're hungry. We just have to do alittle planning ahead then most people.

I also think those times you are so hungry and you need food fast its most important to choose the foods that agree with you because you digest them so fast. Like I can have alittle bit of dairy if my stomach is full from eating a meal. Like a spoonful of whipped cream on pie. But if I have dairy on an empty stomach ....... Ouch. I'll cramp up.

I agree I need to have an emergency stash of food on hand. This bout of hunger took me by surprise, because I never used to get hungry. Now I have been REALLY gluten free since October this year and things are changing fast. I think I am actually starting to digest food properly for the first time. I am starting to get hungry so this must be good?

I live in Australia, but I think I can find a suitable margarine here for my sweet potatoes and I bought a balsamic glaze today to use in place of the barbeque sauce.

I am on a steep learnig curve here so thank you all for your advice.

Also, if you have the time to bake your sweet potatoes in the oven, I find that I don't need any butter. They're also good diced and sauteed in coconut oil.

Maybe you could make barbecue sauce from scratch.

That's a great idea as it really is only a tomato based sauce with brown sugar in it. But I like the smoky flavour and living in Australia, I can't buy liquid smoke here at all. I will try to experiment as I love sauces. Some tomato sauces are ok though. I keep searching the gluten free items in the stores hoping to find a bbQ sauce, to no avail. Maybe I will get lucky tomorrow. I did buy an expensive balsamic glaze to put on my sweet potatoes though. The main ingredients are balsamic vinegar, sugar and dried figs. I think it will taste yummy.

Try looking for smoked paprika in specialty spice shops. It will add a nice smokey flavour without adding heat.

Kraft will clearly disclose any gluten source in the ingredient list. Look for wheat, barley, rye or oats. If you don't see any of those words, then no gluten is present in the ingredients.

There are many other brands with a similar disclosure policy. They include:

Thank you all so much for your great replies. I am checking out that email address and Nyxie I actually have some smoked paprika on my spice rack. I completely forgot about that.

It's just that I am vegan and I love sweet potatoes with barbeque sauce drizzled over them instead of butter as I am casein free too.

I ate some fries yesterday that must have been cooked in with the battered fish as today I Have diarrhea again

Oh JOss,,

get rid of it please.. You should buy McCormicks spices- they list everything that is in them. If there is nothing listed besides the spice- then there is nothing added to them. Try using nutmeg. A friend of mine puts nutmeg (just a tiny bit) and regular cinammon on hers..she also uses that and makes sweet potato fries.

or how about Yucca fries? I love them.. Just buy it, skin it, soak it, and fry in some um i think canola oil maybe use a tiny bit of salt or sea salt.. they will come out all crunchy like they had a coating on them.. They are so good..

feel better sweetie and hope that you had a good thanksgiving..

Mine is definitely triggered by inflammation and stress! I do also have arthritis in my spine, but the pain is more in my pelvic area. Im sure i have other food intolerances or other autoimmune isues but the more I focus on it and see doctor after doctor, it just gets worse.  Best thing is get of Gluten! (I also avoid lactose). Try to limit stress and anything that causes inflammation in your body.

Good morning,   I got an email about replies to this post. Some of my doctors had blamed a slipped disc for the pain I had and that contributes, but after meeting with a gastroenterologist AGAIN and trying some lifestyle modifications, I found out I have IBS and can't tolerate corn or excessive fructose to any degree. Cutting out corn AFTER having cut out all gluten containing products was a real pain but I feel much better now!

So, I contacted Scott Adams, the author of that article and also the creator/admin of this website, and pointed out to him the need to clarify the information in the paragraph in question. He has now updated the paragraph and it is clear that the DGP-IGA does serve the purpose of circumventing the false negatives that IGA deficiencies can generate in the tTG-IGA antibody test.

Has anyone experimenced enlarged lymph nodes with celiac? Both in the neck and groin area. Imaging of both areas have said that lymph nodes are reactive in nature. However, they have been present for months and just wondering how long this may take to go down. Been gluten-free for about two months. Blood counts are normal.
